@dracomister7 You plat it with an emulator in slow motion (Frame Advance) using save states and rerecording.

For every frame in the game (Usually 60 frames/second) you choose what the input should be. If you make a mistake, want to try something else etc. you load one of your save states and redo that part.

So there is not a bot or anything who makes the job for you, but you use tools to help you out to perfection.

You simply hold down while standing on the white block to fall in the background, behind the black stuff and bushes etc. (that's why he stops running in the video). And yeah it's a really weird secret. They hid stuff like that and only mentioned it on the movie Wizard and on Nintendo Power magazines. :P

download an emulator (FCEUX is what i use) and set the speed of the emulation to very slow (adjust the speed a bit faster if needed, i usually play near 7 or 12 percent). and just play regularly. Any other questions? i can definately help

TAS don't use hacks, just RNG and luck manipulation. It's not like we go in and change the memory values to outside of what can actually be possible. FFIV TAS is a prime example of this.

Glitches are also used in "legitimate" speedruns. Wolf-skip glitch in SotN and mockballing in Super Metroid are great examples.

I'm just saying, it's best to answer somebody's question as accurately as possible.

if you think it makes it easier you are totally wrong. doing a tas is extremely hard. figuring out frame rates, trail and error of the smallest sections of a game to see where you can shave off .5 seconds. its a lot harder than ppl think.

The people play it on an emulator which when you record has many different things to help like save states (if u mess up u pick load state and you instantly go back to where you last save state-ed) and a rewind button and from what I know when you record with an emulator if u use save states it flawlessly removes it from the recording. thats at least what i THINK tool-assisted is.

When I was in college, before I'd ever even heard of a "speed run", I used to try and see how fast I could beat SMB3. Of course I was doing this without the benefit of any of the stuff discovered by the speedrun community -- and also, I sucked, so I could never get through world 8 without dying at least once. heh... So I never got below about 15 minutes-ish. Still, I was pretty proud of it at the time! ;/
