IMO The best drummer played with Zepp after John Bonham's death is Tony Thompson(Live Aid, pity that Phil Collins destroyed that gig ) and the curse goes on: Michael Lee -dead, Tony Thompson-dead,Phil Collins tried to commit suicide I'm impressed that Jason is still alive. Tony had the groove, the other are only trying to copy something
The drummer is Michael Lee, R.I.P., who played a lot w/ Page & Plant. Of course he's not Bonham, but a damn fine drummer nonetheless. Bonham was amazing, but he's, um... not here anymore. I think this is a great version...
All the comments about how the drummer isn't Bonham don't need to be said. Nobody can groove like John except maybe Jason. He was pretty enthusiastic, but who wouldn't be when they're playing drums for Zeppelin?
Can't believe how good Plant sounds here. Thought the upper range of his voice was completely shot at this point. Far from his 70's prime but still nice.
I don't know if it is just the drummer to be blamed....the tempo of this performance is much faster than on the album ---- and faster than it should be. Taking a great song and playing it faster doesn't necessarily make it better.
I love watching Jimmy Page...............there really are no words to adequately express his creativity, innovation, and incredibly passion for what he does.
Nobody;s touches Page, in his prime he was untouchable as a player, writer and engineer. The Beatles changed music really not in this mode. Stones, please, what did Brenda Jagger ever sing to match some of the works Plant created? The belt in Kashmir or Stairway's beauty, no way. These guys were the Gods of the Mountain. JImmy is so unique, 2 notes and you know it's him. Really only Jeff Beck holds the same status in my book but Jimmy's tunes are just epic.
I'll tell you what! This is great! Page, Plant - oh man Page just dominates with his style and playing. And, that drummer might not be a Bonzo, but he did pretty damn good here! I felt kind of sorry for the bass player trying to keep up with Page! LOL
Page knows magic thats something alot of music players lack. he decided not to be cocky with a one hit wonder riff and listen to everybody and pick out what he likes and compose it with his feelings incooprated, it's not coping it's merely fascination. Most of these people making music nowadays are only fascinated with either themselves, the greens, or their popularity.
jimmy page is my favorite guitarist, john paul jones my favorite bass and tecladista, boham my favorite drummer and plant my favorite singer...hey so led zeppelin is the best band in the wordl
The drummer is VERY good, but he isn't Bonham. John Bonham had this deep, strong, and steady beat. This drummer is a little overenthusiastic, almost like a kid with a lot of energy. I prefer Bonahm, but he did an excellent job!
@SomethingThatReal ... I agree that you can't really top what Bonham did. This version is much faster than the original, and I love this drummer's energy and feel. He's tight ! And, unfortunately not with us anymore...
@SomethingThatReal Of course John Bonham is better. Does it really need to be said? Exactly who IS better than John Bonham, anyway? No on, in my opinion, but it doesn't matter. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the performance what it is, not what it isn't. Life is much more pleasant that way. :)
@SomethingThatReal Very good point. This kid had a lot to live up to. Is there any more intimidating shoes to fill than those of John Bonham? Maybe if they got The Experience back together and someone asked you, "Can you play the role of Jimi Hendrix?"
@SomethingThatReal Page started off the song in hyper-speed and perhaps micheal wasnt quite ready to shave 47seconds off from the original studio version of this song.
...........maybe too much blow that night for jimmy ;-)
My favorite band always fucks around with the wrong rhythm section. Page and Plant need John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham! I didn't go to see this tour but would have given my right arm to be in the 02 arena that night they got it right. I wish they would tour just once with those guys as Led Zeppelin before it's too late.
Page looks like Jack Black and Kim Jong-Il's lovechild. I fucking love this song. RIP Michael Lee - he played with such awe and joy it was a pleasure to witness.
@GatesOBabylon what drummers are not allowed to be hard hitting like bonzo just cuz he was the best? robert plant and jimmy page chose mike lee as their drummer and i would say they know plenty more about music than you or me.
this has got to be the worst directed video of all time! shaking cameras, and switching around real fast like that, trying to make it seem more exciting or whatever, and you can't see shit!
n robert...dance?omg thats so funny!but also quite good too~n hes voice is great!i didnt expect this kind of high-pithed voice from a man of his age, cool~
The Drummer was Michael Lee, he was with Robert Plant for many years. In my opinion he was one of the best drummers that could do the job after John Bonham. R.I.P To them both.
american artist's must shake their head's at the question of what brits r the best. picture a confused Eddie Van Halen on phone to Joe Perry&Johnny Winter "wtf. man are you getting this shit?" @JohnAllanification gREAT STUFF ,but seriously VAN HALEN is a far better guitarist then page . Im not one of these people that think everything VAN HALEN or LEP ZEP is great , they both have had some stinkers . BOTH are brilliant song writers though which puts them above any other human guitarists
it is common that ppl think that the Beatles are the biggest band , ok they are huge they are awesome, I love their music, but c'mon !! led zeppelin is pure rock , and when we are talkin about rock led zeppelin rocks!!!
@LOVELED1 can't compare the two, they are different, point is both bands changed everything. nothing was the same after the beatles OR led zeppelin, and nothing was been this good ever since the two bands
they must have let the drummer lead the way on this show ,,that was fast..lol...my last band covered this song and i think we played it close to that speed..?
whats going on with the michael lee baiting? this is a brilliant performance, he's on fire and kicks the band along at an alarming pace. awesome drummer.
NJCustardPie, you are quite right. The drummer is definitely pushing the tempo too hard. Just relax and let the NORMAL rhythm and tempo of the song carry itself. @Tomtaroo yes michael lee was gods answer for the departed bonham he is unreal its ashame he passed as well, crazy shit they found him dead of some sort of epileptic seizure or somethg like that..pity
rocker74, yeah good point about the camera work. A few quick cuts are good, but after a while I want it to settle in and fricking focus on these guys longer look. Great to hear them rock out though.
agree about the late mr. lee, he was awesome! saw them in albany and I couldn't stop watching him, a real shame, and yes I would agree about him being better than jason, also, no disrespect, peace, j.
I'm glad you notice that too. You can tell he has more musical knowlege than he did when he was in Zeppelin by just hearing him play. Some people I know say he doesn't play as good as he did when he was in Zeppelin but I disagree. The only thing he "lacks" from now compared to Zeppelin is his soloing isn't as fast or if he goes too fast, it's kind of "sloppy." But other than that, he's a sharper guitar player all around I think. He's even more dynamic as well.
@MrDrProfessorJrMD / hey man i noticed it too, well put too, he IS more dynamic,
ya know what id love to hear is the original "new" licks that pagey ,jonesy & jason bonham laid down in early 2008. they said it was some "pretty special stuff"!!
AND if you notice pagey has been smilin sO m uch ever since.
MUST BE SOME GOOD STUFF / if they said that!!
they've put it up for robert to give it a listen(sooneror later.
@z1inspector Page is releasing an album and touring this year. That'll be awesome. But yeah, I too am waiting for the outcome of what you just mentioned. I like Jones' band Them Crooked Vultures. One of the best bands to come out in a while. Still though, nothing like Zeppelin was.
@z1inspector Hey, man. He also toured with the Black Crowes in 2000(?) and they released a live CD mostly consisting of Led Zeppelin songs but some Blues covers as well. But yeah, not since Outrider has he done a solo project and not since "Walking In Clarksdale" with Plant in 1998 have we heard any new songs from Jimmy Page. So, basically, it's been 12 years since the public has heard a new song(s) from him. So, he's had 12 years to write and perfect songs I bet. I'm fricken excited.
i think page's grammys are on his way with the next album / not that grammys mean anything to me. BUT the man deserves to be aknowledged "undenieable" !!!
its probably really going to be VERY POWERFULL,will you keep me posted ?where can i turn to for status!!
I agree he should get a Grammy. I mean, he's one of the most influetial musicians in Rock N Roll and maybe beyond. But then again you see who they give the grammys to lately... The last Grammys I didn't really watch because it was mostly muscians I could care less about. Also, the music critics hated Zeppelin. But people like us, people who listen to music for the fun of it, are the real critics. I'll keep you posted on any happenings about the album and the tour as I find out about it.
personaly i dont care bout grammys /to me they dont count, they have NO REAL VALUE to a real music fan /grammy is a mainstream top 40 offspring. the same people that never aknowledged zep, mainstream has no street cred HOWEVER, at the point in time of their lives now a grammy credidation is about the only thing left .
PLANT said its got nothing to do with selling out & its "not a bad way to spend a sunday afternoon !!" ha ha that kinda sums it up well/ plant dissis it ina classy way, smoooth

rocker74, yeah good point about the camera work. A few quick cuts are good, but after a while I want it to settle in and fricking focus on these guys longer look. Great to hear them rock out though.

Jimmy Page has in some ways improved as a guitar player.
guava96 2 years ago 3
I'm glad you notice that too. You can tell he has more musical knowlege than he did when he was in Zeppelin by just hearing him play. Some people I know say he doesn't play as good as he did when he was in Zeppelin but I disagree. The only thing he "lacks" from now compared to Zeppelin is his soloing isn't as fast or if he goes too fast, it's kind of "sloppy." But other than that, he's a sharper guitar player all around I think. He's even more dynamic as well.

OH ya! I totally agree with your statement about Page, I could not have expressed it better!
Ulai777 1 year ago
@MrDrProfessorJrMD / hey man i noticed it too, well put too, he IS more dynamic,
ya know what id love to hear is the original "new" licks that pagey ,jonesy & jason bonham laid down in early 2008. they said it was some "pretty special stuff"!!
AND if you notice pagey has been smilin sO m uch ever since.
MUST BE SOME GOOD STUFF / if they said that!!
they've put it up for robert to give it a listen(sooneror later.
IM LIVIN FOR THE OUTCOME OF THAT !!

MrDrProfessorJrMD 1 year ago
hey old friend, ,NO i didnt know he was releasing an album ,cant wait, has he done any solo work other than outrider?
he did 2 with the firm & what? two with plant? but nothing else all these years rite?
z1inspector 1 year ago
@z1inspector Hey, man. He also toured with the Black Crowes in 2000(?) and they released a live CD mostly consisting of Led Zeppelin songs but some Blues covers as well. But yeah, not since Outrider has he done a solo project and not since "Walking In Clarksdale" with Plant in 1998 have we heard any new songs from Jimmy Page. So, basically, it's been 12 years since the public has heard a new song(s) from him. So, he's had 12 years to write and perfect songs I bet. I'm fricken excited.
MrDrProfessorJrMD 1 year ago
yea im familiar with the page/black crowes stuff.
i think page's grammys are on his way with the next album / not that grammys mean anything to me. BUT the man deserves to be aknowledged "undenieable" !!!
its probably really going to be VERY POWERFULL,will you keep me posted ?where can i turn to for status!!
z1inspector 1 year ago

Man, todays musicians need to go back to basics and learn the Blues. Stuff from like forty years ago still kicks ass today. Jimmy's riffs still rock.

I'd love to find the producer of this and kill the asshole. All those super quick camera cuts are so god damn annoying!
