  • Beautiful vintage Chevy..Hope you enjoy the heck out of it.

  • I wish they would just go back to making to making vehicles exactly like this. Affordable, Safe, Fun to Drive, Awesome Looking and American Made. I was born in 1999. I can not stand all the crap being made today. Steel all the way!! Column Shifters FTW!! Thumbs Up if you agree.

  • @christich99 This is a terrible terrible car by modern standards.

  • @Gazpacho8 Why?

  • @christich99 Well, for starters modern cars are massively more efficient, fuel injection overhead cams, variable valve timing, electronic ignition, computerized control of the engine timing and mixture. These all enable the engine to make more power faster using less fuel and taking up less space.

Old cars were death traps, simply look up the recent crash test the IIHS did between a 59 chevy and a 09 chevy. The people in the 59 would have been injured or killed.

  • @Gazpacho8 Modern cars are also much more reliable than cars in the past were, it used to be a common sight on american highways to see a car by the side of the road every miles with the hood up because the points had crapped out or the carburetor was gummed up.

Don't get me wrong, I love old cars and drive one every day, but they are objectively worse in every way.

  • @Gazpacho8 Wrong..Do proper maintenance on a vintage car and it's AT LEAST as reliable as a modern car. Simplicity was the key. Old cars on the roadside were likely neglected on basic upkeep.

  • @TechMaven That's simply false.

  • @Gazpacho8 I heard they took the engine out of the '59 for that test.

  • @christich99 There is no evidence of that. Lots of speculation by people who refuse the accept that old cars lacked safety features though.

  • @Gazpacho8 That's a stupid statement. You're a terrible person by any standard. Bring you negativity elsewhere.

  • Classic column shifter. One day i hope to drive something with one.

  • We need to preserve classic cars like this. You don't see these being built anymore, which is too bad. All the cars are being built in other countries, like Japan, Thailand, Mexico, Vietnam (of all places). So we need to preserve these old cars and take care of them. That's not to say that we shouldn't drive them because we should. We just need to take better care of these vintage cars, maintain them, replace parts as necessary. I love your car videos. Keep up the good work, eh?

  • I've always liked American cars of the 50s through the 80s. What I like about this car is the 6 cyl engine and the 3 sp manual shift transmission.

  • I was born when that model was still in the Chevy showrooms, in June, 1960. My dad had coincidentally bought a two-tone Mint Green with white bubble top '60 Impala sometime back then, either when I was born or shortly before. had it for 16 years total, was almost going to give it to me on my 16th birthday while buying another new car, but decided to trade it in which was a big mistake, oh well, and was in the same near mint garage kept condition as this one in the video is.

  • Socialism is the only way out for you white middle of the road capitalist american fools.

  • @Ramaniac007 You're referring to people who are interested in figuring out how to get by without doing or learning anything, right? That's what socialism caters to - bring down everyone to cater to the lazy squeaky wheel losers.

  • @daw162 What does this have to do with classic cars?

  • @Ramaniac007 And prison is the only place for inferior black rapists and criminals like you...

  • I agree 100% with your "original Philosophy" I'm 17, purchased my first car (1964 4 door impala) and im proud to say that it will one day be restored to its original glory!

  • Watch from 3:55 to 4:02. If you didn't know any better, you would think it was footage and a recording from 1960, with a 1950 Chevy in the background and Ray Conniff's "My heart stood still" from 1958 on the radio. Awesome!

  • in my opinion the Straight 6 sound is the best.... my favorite engine sound in the world!!!

  • Nice car Doug, I have to tell you that when I had my 1960 I listen to rock & Roll. Any way my car was black and had a 348 with 3 2's and it was an auto it did move quick, but the one problem with this car is at around 110 mph the fins start to lift the back end and that is a helpless feeling , of course I never did that again....Thanks for the memories.....Dave

  • One other thing man, check your battery connection! Click.

  • Great video man. I own a '60 also factory 4 speed 348 cu. 2 dr. ht. Second owner. The car is beautiful you got. One thing. Put a radio in the glove box for yourselve. Keeps the original look and you can play your music of your taste. Only on a 9 inch Jensen speaker of course. Screw that boom box crap. Nice 4 door man. Keep it real. See The U.S.A. in your Chevrolet! No resto mod crap!!!!

  • beautiful car man!i love the way you keep it original, love the glasses.

  • The driver's wear is suit for this car:)

  • Great car!! Glad you kept it like it's supposed to be. They are only original once.

  • Beautiful car! I love to see people taking care of a piece of art!

i wonder why you shift through the gears, the impala is an automatic, right? Please explain to me :O

  • How is it keeping that thing up in this day and age? I got tired of using an older style '70's engine in my camaro due to the ever changing standards they have now for meeting emmissions. Oil today doesnt have nearly the anti-wear addatives that it used to have. Really hard to keep the older style flat tappet and pushrod/rocker style valvetrains in one piece. That doesnt even touch on the issue of getting parts for it.

  • That good 'ol "three on the tree" sure takes you back. Ours was a "Belair" and had the two speed "Powerglide" automatic. I can remember as a teenager, taking it out on a deserted back road and getting it up to 110 mph. Sure, it took a while but who would have thought that little 235 had it in her?

  • Beautiful car but you have to wonder what the original buyer wanted with a I-6 cylinder??

    And three on the tree.

  • Beautiful car but you have to wonder what the original buyer wanted with a I-6 cylinder??

  • That is an awesome car! I love the fact that it is original and stock. I would love to get a 1958 Buick Limited 4-door hardtop one day.

  • I love that video. I had a car almost identical except that the outside was all white. Unfortunately it wasn't in good shape. I bought it for $65 in 1974. I currently have a 1960 Chevrolet BelAir which is a 283 three speed.

  • I have a straight six in my jeep. I keep all my straight six in the car

  • Doug, do you or anyone else know what the title is to that Ray Coniff tune? i haven't heard that song in about 35 years. thanks!

  • What a great car! from year I was born. I love the fact you did not modify it. Also, how did people know how to shift those column shifters? There is no marking where the gears were. The elevator music was great as well. I am shocked that A Chicago area station still plays such music. Thanks for sharing!

  • That is a gorgeous car! I think I'm the only 19 year old that would enjoy that and leave everything on it stock. Right now I have a 1981 Camaro Sport Coupe that WAS original until it got into the wrong owners hands and now all of the emission parts are removed, 267 is seized, and the rear end was swapped for a 3.42:1 limited slip (compared to the stock 2.56:1 open.)

  • Beautiful automobile!!! And I liked the music that was playing on the radio, sort of reminds you of driving along old route 66.

  • Leave the car just as it is. It's the way it's supposed to be. And the music is fitting.

  • Love your video. I am a 50's/60's fanatic. Your style of dress and glasses even match the car. Put this in black and white and one would think they were back in time. :)

  • Doug I remember my maternal Grandmother had a '64 Bel Air "Sport Sedan" for many years with the straight six and three speed manual on the column...medium green metallic with matching interior...got many rides to school in it on rainy mornings!

  • Being a collector of vintage music, I can tell you that Ray Conniff was very popular with the older generation, though I'm afraid that few today would even recognize the name. I love the older "easy listening" type of music. They just don't seem to record music like that much anymore.

  • I agree with you on keeping the car original, someone would have restomoded it and ruined the value of the car!

  • Doug thanks for sharing your car, and your commentary! God Bless America! :)

  • Hello Doug.

A very nice car indeed. We also own a 1960 Black and white 4 door Impala with the bubble top roof. We also like to keep ours original. Its very refreshing to meet someone who also apreciates the feel of the cars as they were in the 60's.

We are from New Zealand but if you do come over here we will take you for a ride.

    Regards

    Robert and Nicola

    New Zealand

  • Very Nice. To me the car would be worth more if it was all stock such as yours. I think it is a crime to take a vintage vehicle and basically ruin it by customizing. Very good points also made on the downfall of our country as a super power in the manufacturing business. Thanks for the ride.

  • does anybody know the name for those two soothing oldie songs playing in the radio???

  • damn i love that oldie music

  • the interior and sound of that car's engine is beautiful.

  • This is an awesome video. I live in Switzerland, and had my 1961 pillarless 4 door in Australia locked in my garage. Unfortunately the January 2011 floods that hit Australia totally destroyed my car, and given I live overseas I sold it.

HAving just watched this video, I am in awe of your restoration and the vehicle. If you ever consider sellign this let me know, I would be definately interested. Stuart

  • @drh4683 This car looks very great! I have onced traveled in 1960 Impala 2 door hardtop and it did felt very smooth! And styling of these cars is something that modern cars cant EVER achieve! Greetings from Finland!

  • Not too many Impalas came with the 6 cyl and three speed. You should keep it as it is. Beautiful car. It looks brand new.

  • great job Doug awesome i feel the same way you do

  • Like the car a lot, how original things are. Dad had a 62 Impala 283 (automatic though), but, I remember 60 Chevys well, as well as the sound of the manual transmission (in general) on Chevys of that era. Music to my ears for sure.

  • what a great video of a fantastic car.so good to see one in stock condition.thanks.

  • Wonderful ride !!!

Great car !!! Great video !!!

    Thanks

  • Aftermarket car radios can not only ruin the original apparence of the car, but can also impose demands on the car battery/alternator that were not thought of at the time the car was designed. Aftermarket car radios, not so much the amps/subwoofers, but the aftermarket stereos themselves are sometimes inferior quality.

  • i agree, i hate it when someone takes a beautiful original classic car and modifies it

  • I was born that year this car was built (1960). That is a cool car. Too bad it is not a time machine that could take you back to 1960.

  • joli impala 60 !! bravo à vous.

  • Very cool! My Heart Stood Still and Laura, both off Ray Conniff's "Hollywood in Rhythm" album. I went through my vinyl collection today and discovered I have 9 Ray Conniff LP's! I really dig the sound of the bass trombone here (a really nice low C to F). It very well may be Ernie Tack...played with Conniff and was also part of the trombone section on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show band.

  • Very nostalgic, the car is in awesome shape, and you have the AM radio churning out music for the time. Thanks for posting this vid.

  • Another question... What did the sport package give you in 1960?

  • All of your restorations are top quality & your work is impeccable! All I can say is thank u for doing your part 2 preserve what was once great about America when we had a sense of pride knowing that the "Made In The USA" tag symbolized quality, freedom, opportunity, & prosperity. Now "Made In (RED) China" seems 2 b the norm. Was that music piped into the stock radio from an external device? I didn't hear an announcement or a commercial between those 2 period correct tunes. 5 stars!

  • wow... great music, great interior, great car!!! the one i wanna buy, is rusted up... weathered grey, interior ALL torn up... seats and everything... its depressing... i wanna buy it and fix it up, like yours! nice, shiny, new looking, kept safe, and clean, NOT all torn up... also, where i live... theres no music stations like that... your pretty lucky

  • I really feel what you are saying about how the feeling and time was different then. Life was a lot simpler then. I'm a lot like you when it comes to the appreciation of earlier times. I wasn't part of 1960 either. I wasn't born till 1973. Theres just no quality like back then. People took care in what they made. Things were made to be repaired, not bought and thrown away like today. I think you're one of the coolest guys I've seen man. You really look the part too. Keep it all alive!

  • @clemsonbloke I agree with you... i was born 1995, and i keep thinking there was a time lapse, and i was realy born in 1965... lol, the world isnt like how i wish it was... well how it used to be...

  • @zanek250 Thanks for the comments. Yeah I was in college back in 1995 and it was a pretty cool time compared to now. Things really changed drastically in this country after 9/11. Up till then things were pretty happy go lucky for the most part. Sure things weren't the quality then that they were in say 1965 but far better than even now. The 90's were the last time I remember feeling safe in this country. They were also the last time I felt really happy. To bad its all gone forever.

  • I agree with the other poster, I'd love to hear the motor through the gears and the radio turned off. I love the sound of these old inline 6 cylinders with manual shift. I also like the sound of them with Powerglide. The parents of a dear friend had an identical '60 Impala Sport Sedan but their car had a 283 with Powerglide.

  • Pls. next time turn it on the radio.

We'd like to ear the engine noise.

    Thanks.

  • That 6 does run sweet. Driving it around would it really make that much of a difference if it had a big V8 or not? As they say it's more fun to drive a slow car fast then a fast car slow. I should know... my 90s Jettas only have 60 hp. They're also geared very aggressively, the final drive is 4.25:1! It's a 5 speed, but you can be in 5th at 30 mph if you want to.

That really is a nice vehicle Doug! Amazing that the paint was original. How hard was it to find the bias ply tires?

  • Very nice, Doug! I know how you feel about the way everyone drops a V8 in these cars. I too would rather have an preserved original 4-door sedan than be stuck with another one of those custom jobs with the shaved door handles and whatnot. I guess guys like us were just born in the wrong era.

  • I love your home, car and intellect. Can we trade for a week?

  • what a great car i really want an old car that is a original you have the best collection of tv and radios and cars i hope i could have a collection like yours some day

  • Like the fact that you found an AM music station that's not ethnic or Radio Disney! :)

  • thanks for the video. i can appreciate your respect for old cars. i have a 1936 ford pickup, it is all orignal down to the mechanical brakes. it is also a survivor no one has modified it. thanks

    Brendan

  • Don't see those as original very often most 60s impalas ended up getting turned into low riders with a small block 350 V8 and a TH350 auto dropped into them .

  • Do you use your Impala as your regular everyday car?

  • i see how the stick is by the steerting wheel is this a four speed manual

  • When did those manufacturers start loading those cars with AM/FM radios??

  • @RVDMISSISSAUGAKID Early 1970s they became an option, by the late 1970s/early 1980s they became standard.

  • Stunning 60 Impala Sport Sedan.

Someone paid extra for the very hip hardtop version of this family car.

I grew up with straight 6 - 3 in the tree (synchronized transmission) cars, so this video is a real treat.

  • thats one beast of a car , man

  • My dad had this car when I was a young child. I remember riding in it. You really have a gem there, and in such great condition. Nice neighborhood to live in too. Thanks for posting.

  • What a beautiful car. I am with you - keep 'em stock. There are so few left. My parents lived 1/2 block from Woodward Ave (still do). Being born in 1955 I was brought up with all these 1960's cars. I remember the hearing the street racers back when I was a little kid at night, and now the same cars run Woodward at the Dream Cruise. Too bad so few are stock. I have a 1968 Corvair. It is not fast, but it is stock. I want the experience of times gone by.

  • never had a car with a tube type radio. three speed . how are the brakes . they four wheel drum . Starts so quickly click and it runs. wow everbody had a job . with me degree I would have a great job then . now just political lies. I would of made more repairing tv's then . then working in technology today ...

  • That's really nice.

  • This reminds me of those old "see the USA in your Chevrolet" commercials on TV, sung by Dinah Shore!!! I remember, as a little kid in the early 1960s, my aunts and uncles drove around in cars like these!

  • The tunes at 3:58 really fitted the for the nice neighborhood drive!

  • Nice car! Long live the 3 on the tree!

  • Now THAT is the way I like an antique car. ALL original, down to the engine and radio. Those cars were the lap of luxury and meant to float down the road.

  • What a beautiful automobile! Just wonderful. They don't make them like this anymore. Such a great sense of style. That engine sounds so powerful!

  • I agree with you... The six is a very coll motor. Those engines are indestructible and efficient. Speed is not everything. Once again, wow! The music is surreal for this video. How perfect. :) JC

  • At 3:58 did you notice that other old car? I could have sworn we were starting to travel through time here.

  • You have got to be the coolest guy in the world! I want to be just like you!

  • Beautiful ride. could you do one day do one with a front angle so we can see the road? Also that music was perfect haha. And you look very 60s too. I love it.

  • Three-on-the-tree... awesome!

  • I was born in 1960, so that car is just as old as I am! Very nice car! Thanks for the ride. And thanks for keeping it original.

  • I am like you. I try to leave my 1981 and 1985 as origional as I can though I may upgrade the radio in the 1985 since it is going downhill slowly. I do have a different stereo in the 1981 though it can be switched back if need be. Nice car!!!!

  • BTW, where did you get those old-style glasses you're wearing? I haven't seen them on people ever since I was little back in the Sixties.

  • AW YEAAAAH! THAT is a CAR! Gorgeous. I'm jealous!

  • Do you by chance have a time machine in your basement? It looks like you came straight outta 1960 too!! Seriously, todays cars have about as much styling as a bar of soap. Awesome music. Awesome car. Awesome video.
