my beloved brother al7amduLILLAH you benefited. As for buying cats and dogs I read it while reading the jurisprudence & rulings of hunting that the Fuqahaa prohibited it.
as for the daleel I just searched and it is a SAHEEH AUTHENTIC HADEETH in the Saheeh of Imam Muslim(RA). Also if you understand Arabic I have a fatwa for Shaykh Salih Al Fawzan Ill send you a link to his fatwaa. Or I can translate it for you inchALLAH if you like.
oh btw i got a couple of Q's bout cats..ok...so do HAVE to nudder(sp?)cats wen u get one?...and how long dos it take for a cat to be trained to go to the sand box(aka washroom..lol)??
As far as the sandbox goes as soon as you get a kitten it may take it a couple of days inchALLAH. if its really really young, then after it eats you have to let it roam around for like 5-10 minutes or preferrably right after the meal, put it in the sand box and sit with him and wait. dont let it leave though untill its done with it. 2nd or 3rd day theyll get the picture. But just be gentle and leniant with them, it works better.

yes ya Umm 3ayisha it is Toxic to cats. Chocolates, raisins and a variety of other foods that people think its okay to feed animals. theyre also toxic to dogs & birds.
btw mooshi is not technically mine. hes my friend's but I take care of him when hes away. Someone from University promised to bring me a kitten ages ago but never got back to me. lol.

In Islam we are not allowed to "BUY" cats and dogs but if you are given one for free its okay
and ALLAH(swt) knows better.

here is the translation of the SAHEEH Hadeeth narrated by Imam Muslim:
(( The prophet Salla ALLAHU 3alaihi wa 3alaa Aalihi wa Sallam has prohibited the money from the Sinnoor(fushaa Arabic for Cat) & the Dog ))

oh yeah and btw you can teach your kitty to use the bathroom.
I mean "the" bathroom for real. But I prefer the sandbox. its cleaner and safer.
