  • That Dirty Blues setting is spot on man. I use a Semi-Hollow and a Strat and that is how i use my amp. Great Video.

  • My amp only has Drive, Level, Treble and Bass. There's no Low, Mid or High setting so does that mean I can't get a heavy metal setting and need a new amp if I want to do so?

  • @DarkChaoto Most people scoop the mids for Metal so you should be fine. If you did get a new amp the Peavey Valveking 212 is the bomb!!!

  • Amazing instructional video sir. I always thought the room had something to do with the sound...thanks for clearing my doubts. The thing with my amp is that no matter how you adjust it, the highs sound really crappy and digital. It's a line 6 spider IV; so, just to bring some variation I thought I'd go buy a pedal..and so I thought the Digitech Death Metal would be pretty good; well that one turned out to be worse. So, trading the shitty line 6 that I have for a Peavey....is that a good idea?

  • @assasinator1980, Hi, and thanks for leaving such a great comment! The thing I always suggest is to go with a real plain-jane analog amplifier, (80-100 watts). Then, add effects out-board. Whether that's a few Boss, or DigiTech, or Zoom pedal units, or maybe a pedal board, or perhaps a simple tube-based rack system... the results in-so-far as the sound (in the end) will generally greatly exceed that of any digital modelling amp. This is just in my own humble opinion - of course!

  • @creativeguitarstudio I hear what you're saying....should've done that in the first place...hopefully save up enough money for the rack system though. Thank you!

  • Can u pleassssssseeee gimme the tabs for the jazz thing you played!!!

  • Well done, succinctly put and good playing...and I agree these Transtube amps are very good IF you put a good speaker in. PV speakers are lousy sounding for guitar. Now you left out 2 things out: The difference in playing OUT is you will tax the amp more and the greater loudness drowns out the "acoustic" part of your tone you hear at home , the pick & fret slap. Also mike placement is much better off center, especially when using a dynamic mic as it can pickup coil to coil induction fizzzzz.

  • hey guys! check out my amp on my new video on my channel xP i want to kno if what i posted about my amp was normal :D dnt forget to like and sub<3

    thanks a lot!(:

  • I didn't understand anything....

  • Can you tell me how to get rock/heavy metal sounds on a CC-20X amp

  • HE SAID GREEN DAY!!!!!!

  • How do I set my GA-15 amp to a country tone

  • Hey man this was very helpful, just wondering about tone nobs. I got an epiphone standard the other day and i want to get a sweet child o mine tone. I just have trouble with the tone nobs I dont know what to do? Thanks a billion!!!

  • if we dont have a mid setting on our amp or reverb should we just make everything else the same or should we chand the other settings to make up for it?

  • Take off, hoser!

  • How do you get your amp to sound like your playing on a auditorium. It sounds very echoey and very clear even with your distortion on. Could it possibly be the way the microphone is picking up the sounds? It sounds awesome by the way.

  • Hey Andrew, thanks for this vid.I'm from Holland and started to play in a band at age 43 (this year). Bought the bandit used a half year ago. I never took the time to work on the amp since I use a lin6 Podxt Live. I never was very satisfied with the amp. Now I see with some minor changes you get a great sound out of it. I have a Ephophone Black beauty 3HB, a strat with virtual vintage pick up and a blade tele. Thanks very much

  • @ggrassi68 It will be agreat amp when you put an Electrovoice EVM series 2 speaker in it . Get another one for an extension cab on bigger gigs or un miked ones . I used a PV Special 130 with that speaker opening summer 2010 Meatloaf tour and 2011 Ted Nugent. It did very admirably. A good speaker can make a good amp great .

  • @Geepsterr Your right, I had a bandit with a evm speaker and it was mind blowing!

  • @BraveMavrick Well the Special 130 is pretty much a Bandit but double the power amp, so it weighs more, then the amp gains about 10lbs with the EVM. Ouch.

  • ..WOW. Why can't I get my Peavey Rage 158 to sound like that no matter what I try? :(

  • "thanks for TUNING in" lol get it? :P

  • This is Very Helpful For me thx Man!! Greetz From Germany

  • I'm Canadian , what's with the accent? How did I get away from that, btw people in the northern states talk the same way, the border doesn't change people

  • are you from canada?

  • how do you use the power and pre output jacks?

  • May I ask you something? What's the purpose of that switchfoot? is that for distortion?

  • your amazing dude

  • Question, just looked back at my amp and I have a stagg 20 watt amp and it doesn't have all those dials for clean and that, how do I get that metal and country sound?

  • Amazing!! Thank you so much!! I was wondering how to get that metal rock and country sound and you showed me! Thanks!!!

  • Hey Andrew, I really need some help. The thing is I don't know how to make my guitar sound like that rock/metal style. I have a gibson flying v guitar and a legacy le10d amplifier (I really wanted to buy a cheap one). However, I don't know how to set my amp to make the guitar sound like that rock at 7:08, since it only has a few buttons (or however they're called in english). I would really appreciate if you'd help me.

  • This is one of the most helpful and well-made videos on amp settings that I have watched. Thanks for answering a sh*tpile of questions and well done!!

  • @Sandstorm9562

Hey man, thanks a million for the kinds words... I haven't checked in on this video in quite some time and was happy to see all the thumbs up with close to 20,000 views. Thanks again!

    Andrew Wasson

  • really helped especially since i have a bandit 112 myself!

  • Hey,

i have a Roland cube-80 XL amplifier, and i can get heavy distortion sounds, but rather far from the metal distortion sound, in my opinion, and i wondered if u could by any chance suggest some settings that might work?

i need a reply as soon as possible,

    thanks

  • LOL this video alone persuaded me to purchase this amp for my les paul and IT IS AWESOME!!!

  • Wow Andrew this is the first video I have seen of yours. Simply said, you are great. I love the fact that your not charging anything at all for your knowledge and advice. ALSO. for everyone posting asking questing about how to get a cretin sound on your amp. You should try watching the video again take the closest example of setting Andrew gave you and play with it. thats how most music is made, trying to copy a sound you love and creating one you love better.

  • How do I get the sound for Three Days Grace, Avenged Sevenfold, and Bullet For My Valentine on my Fender Mustang III Amp?

  • alright, ive been playing guitar for 4.5 years now, and ive always wondered what the presence control does?

  • how do you get acdc sound on a fender?

  • So how would i get my guitar to sound like carlos santana and jimi hendrix,i have a peavey vypyr 15 amp.

  • Damn hes so rigjt. I bought a new peavey and it sounded great in my room but when i took it to church to be my main amp. It sounded horrible.

  • Awesome Topic Andrew! I learned alot! How would you accomplish a clean jazzy sound like Larry Carlton?

  • Great question; Great answer. Thanks to both responsible parties!

  • hi andrew.will be the tune of the amp.if you will use it with gadget like zoom

  • i fuking love this guy for saying kirk hammett

  • ive been playing for only a year now and just ventured off from acoustic.

your explanations on theory and this video on amps really make a difference.

Have you done a video on guitars? Styles, tone, woods, strings, for the type of music people play. i could use help with that but looks like a strat is my style so far.

I started guitar at age 40 and clear instruction is always valued. Thanks for your videos.

  • I really like your videos very informative, useful and to the point a big thank you !

  • whoa i think im going to watch all of these videos somehow

  • the heavier the guitar, the better the guitar will be?

  • is this amp worth buying? plz reply im planning on buying one

  • hey i have a 15 watt marshall amp which has a clean channel and a gain channel, the problem is. even if i put minimum gain on the amp becomes really "crunchy" i cant just make it a little bit harder. is this normal?

  • @skillzdatkillz900 if its an mg it is normal. i know because i own one and it sucks

  • @ecgedsel yeh it is an mg, good to know its not just me then haha

  • @skillzdatkillz900 yea i get u bro

  • This video was very helpful. Thank you very much. Subscribed!!

  • Thanks, Andrew!

  • Very good explanation...although I'm not familiar with some of the terms that you're using like..presence, bottom end,...and one thing i don't understand is why is it so necessary to know about the pick up switch position like whether it is bridge neck or both.... i mean what i believe is that as long as you got the right tone the pickup position doesn't matter..so what is that all about?

  • what the black things back on you guitar?

  • what can i do if i have a beginners amplifier (cheap) and i want to get a metal tone?

    i have and stratocaster

  • im looking to buy a new amp, and i know that Andrew likes peavey, but can someone tell me what the best amp is for rock? thanks

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE INFO AND TAKING THE TIME TO HELP NEW PLAYERS TO UNDERSTAND MORE ABOUT THE DIFFERENTE EFFECTS. THAT WAS A GREAT VIDEO

  • great video thanks!

  • Hey Andrew, this is Victor from Peru, love all your tutorials. Can u explain me what does the pre amp does or what does it means?

    thanx you

  • Man you're great..super underrated....you should be more famous on youtube....

  • Great lesson, as usual. It explains exactly what you need to know.

Besides this, can you make a video explaining the pros and cons between solid-state amps and tube amps? If you already have, I wanna watch it :)

  • @Radu4x i don't know very much about amps but i do assemble and build computers for a living, and solid state tubes in a computer last much longer than other tubes and are usually of a higher quality and cost more.

  • Great video! Canadian? Very good quality video and easy to understand. Very good teacher! Thank you!

  • Thanks Andrew

  • great as usual andrew...peavey should be paying you commission on every amp they sell from now

  • cA\an some one explane to me what the presents dose? cuz i have one but idk what it dose

  • Thank you very much Andrew, The information was just what i needed, I spent about 90 minutes last night trying different settings to my wife's chagrin. Your instructions give me a starting point to set the amp and then I know now which way to tweak for the tone I am seeking. It is a little harder with the Epiphone hollow body then the strat.

  • Great, been wanting Andrew to do a video about tone for ages! More please :)

  • Hey Andrew, I would love if you could talk a bit about effect pedals. I am a bit fan of Radiohead and I know Jonny Greenwood uses a lot of pedals to get his sound. I'm more into the Indie sound (Bands such as The Maccabees, The Smiths, Radiohead and Bloc Party) I would love if you could make one video about that style of music and guitar playing. Thank you, and keep up the good work, you are very inspirational

    Penri Mainwaring

  • I think a good way to find a cool sound is to find the sweet spots on you guitar and amp. A humbucker's volume sweet spot is around 8 and its tone is at about 6. For amps I find it at 6 or 4 positions on the amps.

  • Really helpful. Thanks

  • Really helped me a lot. Got lots of problems and confusion off my head.

And I just wondered if you could say some more things on multi-fx processor and the amp settings (i have a boss gt-6). It sounds great on its own. But during jamming with the band my guitar gets almost cut-off. I solved it by cranking up the effect level but if there are other ways it would be very helpful.

Great videos from you as usual.

  • Wow I learned a lot today! Thank you Andres, your lessons are really helpful!

  • great peavey!!

btw im about to buy a tube amp soon

and i just wanted to know what i should pick laney marshall or peavey if im trying to get like a steve vai paul gilbert allan holdsworth sound

  • @richvaca Carvin is an option. I love my Hughes And Kettner Switchblade for its killer amount of tones.

  • @ItsA6StringThing what carivn do u recommend in the $700 zone or hughes and kettner?

  • very nice lesson your vids are very helpful and informative from beginner to advanced. just two things though, i wanted to ask if you could give quick pointers on getting a lead jazz/fusion ish tone. for example a tone Opeth uses alot, and i guess a good example would be from their song/outro "Epilogue" these types of tone seem elusive to me, mostly concerning pre and post gain idk what to set them at theyre at a weird level i cant tell. also, more or less a joke, mid scooping is bad! :p thanks!

  • Damn, look at those different distortions you got just frm your amp, i feel like i wasted 540 reais (currency here) on my BOSS ME-20. hahaha D:

  • Thanks a lot Andrew. You put up a lot of information in such a short time.

  • lol @ "sounds of...the metal variety"

  • Great videos Andrew, thx 4 help

  • I usually set my EQ to noon and dial-in different stomp boxes, effects or pickups to change the tone. I can go from a heavy fat lead distortion tone to a nice jazz or blues tone very easily.

  • The Peavey Bandit is a great cheap alternative to the Jazz Chorus. It really has some sweet tube-like clean tones, but I don't recommend it for high-gain stuff.

  • Could you tell us what Pickups you use in your strat? Thanks in advance :).

  • can someone please explain to me what "pre gain and post gain" do to your tone??

and thanks for the lesson man!!

  • @guitarguy094 > Hello, The, "Pre-Gain," is the amount of crunch/distortion that you dial up to overdrive the pre-amp section of the amplifier. The, "Post," is simply the amp's output volume. The more Pre-Gain you add, the crunchier the guitar sound will become.

    Thanks for watching,

    Andrew

  • @guitarguy094 pre gain is like a "gain, distortion or drive" knob on an amplifier, post gain is basically a channel volume knob

  • Andrew Wasson = Genius

  • What pickups are you using?

  • Great demonstration Andrew :) Are you just straight into the amp in these demos in this video ?

  • that jazz thing was very nice at about 5.35

  • the classic rock demo sounds like iron maiden :) thanks for this video

  • No intro tune this time?

  • I really like these lessons

  • conclusion: If you are bad you are bad. If you are good, you are good.

  • I like that jazz tone jam that was great was it just improv or an actual song?

  • I was just messing around with my settings the other day, and quickly got lost in it - this video is a godsend Andrew! You're amazing, very cool video, as usual i might add ;) Keep it up :)

  • I dont suppose you know how i can get like a whitechapel or Emmure tone do u? haha

  • @eastlakelax2 Coat your amp in baby blood. Lol.

  • @eastlakelax2 He knows. Everything.

  • @eastlakelax2 this is just a guess by me but low on the middle, 1/2 to3/4 on the bass and treble and about out 3/4 to full gain with some slightly big strings tuned low, its just a guess hope it helps

  • thanks a lot

  • cool video :-)

  • Thanks

  • Great video! Keep up the good work!
