without this album, Thriller wouldn't sound the way it does..everyone knows that MJ got inspiration from "Hot Space" back in the early 80s. i think this album is awesome, just like all Queen albums.
This album contains 44 minutes of pure fun. But, this was a commercial failure. The Works, wasn´t the cherry in the top of the cake, too. "I Want To Break Free" pushed away Queen from the US.
I think the reason people criticize this album, apart from the different music style, is because the rest of Queen's albums were very serious, whereas in 1982 Queen were on top of the world and they just wanted to have some blow off fun. Thus: Hot Space. Still, for a fun album, it's still good.
Well they weren't all serious. I mean seven seas of Rhye ended with 'I do like to be beside the sea-side', and A Night At The Opera had 'lazing on a Sunday Afternoon'. I think Queen never took themselves too seriously, but this album was all about trying something new and having a laugh while doing so.
Fair point, but Queen's other albums weren't exactly disco gay-sugar-shack pop, either. I don't mean that in a bad way. The album just feels less serious than the others.
You know those quality-songs, as bohemian rhapsody, innuendo, the show must go on etc.
We know what they were able to!
I'm sure they had a lot of fun while doing Hot Space, and it's always nice to try new stuff but... this?
Come on..
BUT: put out the fire, under pressure, las palabras de amor and even back chat are quite good, Hot Space was not a completly mistake, but I can live without this song..
There live performence of this song at the milton keynes bowl is much better than this studio album version though freddies vocal on this is immaculate as always. The same aplies also to Back Chat.I think the Hot Space album has some good underated songs on it such as Calling All Girls-Cool Cat,and of course Under Pressure.
Yeah, Hot Space is better than it's reputation - the most fun Queen album; more original than the next 2 albums. But sure, Hot Space it's not near the brilliance and musical genious of their albums from the 70s, nor Innuendo.

Not my favorite album of theirs. I prefer the live version of Staying Power, to the album's.

Weird because is funky, but a great song, the trumpet part is my favourite, and Freddies scream after that

Well, it has a couple of good (or great) songs, some decent ones, and quite a few crappy ones - just like any other Queen album from the 80s.

Las Palabras De Amor, Under Pressure and Body Language are hits, some suck still. Flash Gordon is the worst! to my opinion!

Good job it wasn't a Queen song then. It was a Mercury solo project.
