Finding a world worth such a trip must be the first priority. Without doing that, it would be foolish to attempt a manned spaceflight to any other star system. My proposal is to send probes with the most advanced instruments on board to all of the nearest stars that are known to have planetary systems. By the time we can cut the travel time down to just a few years, our ability to detect life bearing worlds will be advanced enough to actually know where to look. Our telescopes will be advanced.

To reach the nearest star alpha proximy is 4.5 light years from earth would take 730000 years to reach one way !.... To go 300 light years 426000 years one way. Fuel the \tank should be about the size of earth. Food what to do. We have roughly 5 billion years to figure it out because out sun is going to die....

That is about 10 astronomical units, and fyi 1 astronomical unit is about 150,000,000 kilometers. Finding a world worth such a trip must be the first priority. Without doing that, it would be foolish to attempt a manned spaceflight to any other star system. My proposal is to send probes with the most advanced instruments on board to all of the nearest stars that are known to have planetary systems. By the time we can cut the travel time down to just a few years, our ability to detect life bearing worlds will be advanced enough to actually know where to look. Our telescopes will be advanced.

Distance mind boggleing distance. At cuurent speeds achieved about 6 miles a second or roughly 60000 mph. To reach the nearest star alpha proximy is 4.5 light years from earth would take 730000 years to reach one way !.... To go 300 light years 426000 years one way. Fuel the \tank should be about the size of earth. Food what to do. We have roughly 5 billion years to figure it out because out sun is going to die....

That is about 10 astronomical units, and fyi 1 astronomical unit is about 150,000,000 kilometers. Also two stars could be really bright, but if you're far enough it'll be just like earth from the sun.
