Yoostar Review

Question - since nobody liked this and it's available really cheap now, is the actual physical green screen worth like $30? Like to use with other chroma key softwares? Or should I look elsewhere for a green screen? (and any recommendations for green screen software....sony movie studio maybe?)

I have the xbox 360 kinect version and it's very bad quality... so I snagged the PC version for only $40 bucks... because I heard the quality is better ad you can use a high end logitech HD webcam... but I don't know how I would export them.. will it still work?

@BlackoutDOTcom Technically speaking you can't export the clips for personal use. You have to view the clips in Yoostar's player either online or offline.

yoostar sucks you cant edit your videos and cant keep them for youself . it only works on there websight and thats it. so your videos are never really yours

Okay - got to give kudos to Yoostar. Bought this system from Best Buy last November, couldn't get it to work (see previous posts). Problem was that the Yoostar Camera was not recognized by either my Compaq or HP Notebook. I was given the option of returning the entire package to Yoostar for a refund, but decided to try and work the problem with Yoostar. They eventually sent me a new camera which works perfectly. Not many companies today show due diligence to continue to work a problem.

Oh well, day 3 plus some. Yoostar does not support the NVidia 8200M Chipset. Strange, as it is one of the most common used in laptops, so upgrading this laptop from Vista to System 7 is moot for this issue (might do it anyway just because Vista is a dog).

Day 3 - message from Yoostar, my Compaq Laptop purchased last year is not compatible with Yoostar. What! They asked for a DXDiag file and determined that a computer board in this PC was not compatible. Bummer. Just sent them another DXDiag file for a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop to see if it is compatible. Stay tuned. Kudos though to Yoostar support, at least they are trying to work the issues, which is refreshing in today's world.

Per theshadowfan, I am going to try setting this up on a Windows 7 laptop I have and see if that works. Another peave is that in order to place a troubleshooting message to Yoostar, you have to include your Serial Number in the message. Huh? I have already registered the product and SN, but I have to verify who I am each time. I think this this is a product that is "not quite done yet".

Man, theshadowfan hit this nail on the head! I bought this system from Best Buy in November, hoping to use it during the holidays. Well, here it is, Feb. 4th, and I just got everything set up, I mean like 2 hours ago. I was impressed with the packaging, and although I already have green screen material. Got it connected to my Windows Vista 32-bit SP2 Compaq Laptop, and got the software all loaded. However, I get a "YooCam Error" when trying to use this system. Very frustrating.

It didn't seem like there was. Yoostar's tech support never encountered this problem though. So maybe it was just my machine. It's $30 to upgrade on DigitalRiver with the student discount.

This product is not good. I think they took a page out of Sony's SingStar game, person can record themselve sing or whatever and then post it on the MySingStar online. You pay for additional songs and etc. But the great thing about SingStar is that you can get the whole song rather than just :30 seconds of it. This thing is a rip off. If I pay $3 I would like to get atleast 4-5 mins of the scene.

DigitalRiver sells Windows 7 for a student discount of $30. Contact Yoostar's support and they may be able to help you. My computer recognized the camera but the Yoostar software didn't.

Yep. It's how the software removes the background that you have and places you in the movie. Technically speaking you don't have to, but the video won't look as good.

I'm 6"1' so the only way that I can fit my entire body is to squat. I would imagine that there are cheaper alternatives which you could get larger screens for.

Check out the movies that Yoostar has to offer. If your friend likes these movies and likes fooling around, then should be a good fit.

The length depends on Yoostar's clip length. You can print out the scripts and practice them ahead of time. My concern is that you would be acting with nothing else. It's also that people may compare your role to the actual actor's. You can use the green screen for non-Yoostar videos.

I don't know what this guy has been doing with his Yoostar , because for me it worked perfectly on WindowsXP, Windows Vista and Windows7. Camera works perfect with Yoostar and also with other aps like Skype, It is the only camera with integrated noise-cancelling USB sound on the market. I guess this guy did not download the software upgrades from the web after CD installation. So I found this video a long rant with very little accurate information.

I don't know either. I installed it multiple times and worked with the tech guys at Yoostar but nothing worked until Windows 7 installed. None of their updates fixed the problem.

Yeah, every video you make can be saved onto your computer.

This is a great review, saves me the cost of a purchase.

It's unfortunate that the makers of this device are so profit oriented. They have the first one of this type of technology, and could seize prime market share. But, like Sony when they tried to sell downloads of inidividual songs for $3.99, they will forfeit their innovative lead by charging for everything.

Someone will eventually make a crack on the software, and people will be able to use it to upload to youtube, or wherever.

Every company is profit oriented. Yoostar is technically still in Beta so I'm sure that a lot of its offerings will be changing over time.

i tried to install the software into my laptop pc- since it is not yet compatible for mac/apple till xmas... however, i need 1gb physical memory space- i tried to google a free download but am unsuccessful at doing so.... what do you recommend?

I think you need to upgrade the RAM on your laptop, but I believe doing that on a laptop is much more difficult than a desktop.

Depends on if you want to purchase new clips. If Yoostar releases clips for a movie that you love, I'm pretty sure that you'll make more clips with it. But on average for random clips, you may not make videos with it.
