I was 5 when I got my first phone. I got it before we went on a big vacation because I'd be spending a lot of time with my family sometimes without my mom and she liked to check up on me. Although I wasn't really allowed to call anyone. Now i'm 11 and I'm getting the iPhone 4S soon!!
im 14 and i can get what ever phone i want just as long as i can afford it and pay for it myself, so im getting an iphone 4s and im not just saying that..
I didnt get one until I was 17 because we got rid of our home phone, but I had to share with my sister until I got a job. I think it's ridiculous that such young kids have one these days, I think an appropriate age would be when the child is showing responsibility, goes out on their own, has a job, or their license, or is in high school.

i think a good time to get a cell phone is like when ur in5th grade going into the sixth because then we start more extra activities. i got a phone when i was in 5th grade bcause i started having more sleepovers,the park with friends and stuff like that but i didnt ask for a phone honestly i just got one
like i was 9 when i got my first phone, it was a simple LG flip phone and now i'm almost 13 and i want a smart phone, same thing for my sis she wants a smart phone and when she got a first cell phone she was about 7 and a half :P
I think the perfect time is about when you get a job. For instance, I'm eleven and want to get one for my twelfth birthday. Even small jobs will need a cell phone! I street perform, play in a band, and babysit. Surely this is the perfect time to get a cell phone.
Sorry but the only acceptable reason for a child to have a cell phone is emergencies. Im sick of seeing 12 year old kids riding down the street on bikes holding a fucking cell phone to their ear. Stupid parents.

Middle school! I got my son a prepaid cell phone. It's from TracFone. I only pay for the minutes he uses (which are slim to none since he only uses it for emergencies). There are no activation, overage, or cancellation fees and it's pretty easy to replenish his minutes. It teaches him responsibility and helps me have peace of mind that I can get in contact with him whenever I need him.

5 reasons a kid needs a cell phone
1.They just need one
2.what if something were to happen like you were kid napped or broke a foot and no one was there to help you
3.its politer then talking on the phone and intrupting ppl so why not txt.

Well my mom gave me her old cell phone. I'm 8. You can add contacts, check old texts and phone calls but you can't call or text people.
