I know in America rifles and long black powder guns are easy to access but would you think of ever taking an airrifle with you for squirel and rabbit as the ammos cheap and light and with a 12lb pressure it means you can hit bunnies at 40 yards no problems with a head shot.
I have watched every video from the start.... I love all of them, they are extremely informative. I would like to see more on trapping and hunting skills if it's possible.... Thanks
Was studying the layers on the floor of your yurt shelter. I usually put a tarp under our tent to keep the tent clean. It doesn't help with dampness inside the tent. Is that a wool blanket you put on the shelter floor under the cot? We don't have enough deer hides to cover the floor, but I'll bet that makes an awesome insulator against cold and damp, eh? Any suggestions on keeping moisture out of the tent during long term, wet weather situations?
Dave, do you ever wear waxed canvas/cotton clothes? Clothes like those made by Filson are very much of the longhunter period and mentality. They can be made by waxing Carhartts which makes them and everyman item. That would be a great video. Just crossed my mind so I typed it down.
Just a thought, if you placed lids on your 5 gallon buckets, would they be stackable / Stable enough to stack giving you more indoor floor space, or utilizing two buckets with lids and a piece of wood be it a plank or half a fallen tree and you have a table or seat,
Dave C'bury is one man who I could never have imagined being so house proud!!!! I am quite frightened about the ruthless efficiency he cleaned that yurt lol!!! Kudos my friend, a wonderful shelter!!
Great series going here Dave. Looks like you made the most of a nice day. When you are in a cold winter climate and have better then average seasonal weather you must make the most of it, cleaning and gathering things that could be lost to the snow and ice go on top . My wife and kids thought I was crazy today when I was out picking up sticks, twigs, dead grass and leaves and putting them up under shelter. Cutting and splitting needs to be done and any shelter maintenance that needs tending do.
This might be off topic but have to ask, were should I look for a good wool blanket. I want to roll it up in a heavy duty space blanket but havent found one on the web Id spend money on.
Hi Dave I have seen your Hudson Bay Tobacco and Fire Tin setting on the table.
I would like to see what is in it. I have just recived one and have started putting it together as my main fire kit for my pack. It is a great pice to have. Thanks for the Videos keep them Comming Stewart from California.
dave ive heard u can make a compass by rubbing a need on silk maybe u can show that some time and show how actually accurate it is or isnt also the one thing i have never heard u talk about is a good set of binoculars how important would a pair be to carry with u into the wilds and maybe u can show the different types and what works best

Dave I was wondering what you do to clean and maintain your boots. Do you polish them or use some type of oil to keep them supple? Love the Yurt series - hope all is well God Bless.
Dave, have you considered a lapel mic hooked to a $90 digital recorder, and just sync in post production? I think that'd be better for us, as the wind noise can be cut down, and you can also be as far from the camera as you want, and we'd still hear you.
Dave, i would really like to know if you still have the emergency space blankets at the top of the yurt to reflect the heat, or did you take them down again?
Dave somehow I know that the cross you wear has some kind of multi use, am I wright and if so what is it? Thanks brother, florida pathfinders. There's a big group of us down here in Florida.
Question dave, how about raw apple cider vinegar for a sundries it is made from apples and is good for all kinds things. It also doze not need refrigeration.
do you have a tent or something for the Tanner, or does he just hang out outside? It looks like you are having pretty decent weather, but if it started to snow or really bad rain / wind, where would you put Tanner?
i have same prob when i start doing thing stuf never gos bark the i have to climb over it to do things when is the stuff going to learn to go back where it came from lol
Hi Dave sounds like time to invest in a bugout trailer, the yurt and all it's contents goes in the trailer and just sits ready for the next time you need it when you do you just tow it into position drop the trailer the suv goes off to be used else where or parked out of shot etc just an idea be safe Michael S aka the Roach (when it's comes to survival think Cockroach)
I was wondering if any Monster cans were going to come rolling out from under the bed...LOL
So I was wondering.. the firewood you keep outside. Why not build a small shelter to keep under? Seems like it would be a good way to keep it out of the elements.
Hello sir, I really respect what you do Dave. I've always loved self reliance, and your videos help me get through my day, keep it up. I'm drunk with my buddy jack, keep it up my friend! lol Do a video with your drink of choice (Whiskey doubles as a "disinfectant' multi-purpose) then again those goats can get unruly!
good thing you cleaned up, the hay on the ground was annoying me! Still love to see just a little of your time out in the thick of it! Please continue these videos.
@wildernessoutfitters hey dave, i was wondering if normal candle wax could be used in place of bees wax or tallow for reloading shotgun shells. i am interested in eventually getting a single shot 12 gauge and hopefully reloading my own shells so i was just wondering. thanks for the awesome videos! i check up on youtube every day to see if you've put a new one up haha.
Those Christmas popcorn & Danish Cookie big metal tins with lids are what I store food in. They are more difficult for vermin to chew through then the plastic ones, but they can get rusty.

Dave you are hitting the nail on the head with your vids keep up the great work. I have been practicing what you preach for 50 years great job keep it up
Awesome video cool to see how easy it was for you to move that stove in and set it up. The "Benny Hill" style camera work took me back! I was waiting for you to slap a little old bald man on the head. Hope you get that joke! Thanks for this series brother I find myself waiting on every new video. God bless you.
Glad I didn't see a leaf blower used to sweep and clean the yurt !!!!! Great series......have enjoyed the venture immensely. Brings back a lot of memories from the late 70's.
Dave what would you think about using a 5 gallon bucket with a "Gamaseal Lid" in a backpack as a main carry device< as you could keep everything watertight?
@wildernessoutfitters Nice. Keeping an eye on the stove pipe is very important for safety reasons as well. There is some kind of powder we used to burn in our stove from time to time to keep build up in the pipes down but can't remember what it was called. Great video series!
Wood is the only heat we have at my house. When I clean my stove pipe all I do is prop it up in the yard(on about a 45), ball up some news paper and light it in the bottom of the pipe. It burns up the creosote, and then I just tap on it and the ash stuck to the walls falls right out. A chimney fire would be the end of the yurt series for sure, which would really suck cause I freakin' love it.
Nice. I was going to say something about the state of your yurt and what you did for cleaning when I saw how dirty it was in your last video. Seems you took care of that nicely. I also have to say that while I love these videos, I feel a bit cheated. I was hoping to see how you would cope with some snow or real winter weather, kinda like that early video of you camping in the ice storm. Oh well, can't always get what you want.
@wildernessoutfitters So then you're not praying for good weather every night before bed? I would. But hey, I don't know how long you intend to go with this yurt series... I do hope you keep the structure up for the duration of the season.... and maybe do some short series when the weather gets bad or cold, to really test the yurt. But I love how you're demonstrating the lifestyle that can be lead, that of a more simple time.
Dave I was thinking if one didn't have the funding for a first class yurt they could go to the feed store get some of them Steele fence post and drive them in the ground as your wall post build the rest around it. I know the yurts are not cheap but seems to me one could collect these items and drive the post in for under $200. Them fence post are very strong. I bet if one sought an old satellite dish and some vynal they could build a yurt for under $500. An old pool could do for skin.
@wildernessoutfitters Hi Dave I got a question about the stove. How often do you clean the stove pipes? I remember from when I was in the service we cleaned ours out about once a week. We used snow sand gravel pine bows and rags and various other methods. my ultimate tool I found for cleaning them was a brush for cleaning mortar tubes which fit just right and pulled through with a piece of 550 cord.
Glad to see this video refernce moving and all the stuff you were putting in your yurt. First time viewers might not understand the original concept with all that you were collecting. Keep up the reports. I really like the adapters and see a lot of potential there.
I've seen lead flashing for the roof top stover in miners tents. I bet they have something like that for the Yurt too. It would cut down on heat loss and some come with tops to keep the rain out. All the same great videos and SWEET set up.
Hey Dave...I was looking at Snowtrekker Tents as a comparison to the yurt, and was curious what your thoughts would be on stove location. Their tents have the stove jack in the corner....having used the center placement in the yurt for a while...I'd love to hear your thoughts on the pros / cons of these two stove placement locations. With the corner placem
Wondering about the yurt's top hole...flue vent...when it rains....how bad is the water coming straight down inside and down into the short flue affect the wood fire and what do you do to minimize rain water on top of stove?
Dave have you seen the manual washers made from a 5 gallon bucket and a new plunger it might be worth checking it out for in the yurt here is a decent video of one if you have seen it b4 watch?v=NRixmU_AOzg
Hey Dave , Im in Youngstown OH . and was wondering how our warm winter is affecting your self reliance situation . I would imagine its easier but what are some of the things you do differently ... also did you feel the earthquake we had on new yrs eve ?
BTW, another good find at the thrift store today. USGI stainless steel canteen, Swanson 1945 2 tiny dings, with cover and belt, all in very good condition (amazing really), $5. I like the fact that I can boil water in my canteen, sterilizing the container if nothing else. We have WW2 vets still with us in this area, yet this might have been Korea era issue as well. Be a regular at the thrift store and snag up this stuff.
hey Dave are you left handed? My wife and I are.. also what is the make and model of your .22 revolver. great set of videos.. please keep them coming.. !!!!
With the corner placement, I was concerned how hot the stove is right next to the tent fabric..and a potential fire hazard.
@wildernessoutfitters Wouldn't heat be more widely dispersed if it was in the middle? Or would you want it out of the way? Could you please explain why.
@Nacholibre1968 When you would use a Snowtrekker Tent, it should be cold outside, but if not, get the 2 foot rolled sheet of aluminum from the hardware store and cut off a 3 foot section. Aluminum reflects radiant heat good. After cutting, it will stand on it's own as it will have some curl in left in it from being rolled up. It is light weight and will roll up inside of stove pipe. The same metal can be cut to sit between the legs and on top the brace to protect the floor.
A piece of sheet metal or cookie pan under the stove should also work. Don't have any ideas for a multi-use item for that purpose. I'm surprised that folks complained about a little dirt. I'd prefer dirt floors so there ain't no complaining....
Great series! How about any out of the yurt cleaning dutys? And I really want to see you get a deer, tan its hide and smoke the meat!! Keep up the great work Dave!
Dave if you have answered this question then i am sorry But where did you get all those deer hides? did you tan them your self? if so can you post a how to thanks love the seris

Most of what he was shaking out of the deer hides was hot chocolate mix! :-) Great videos, Dave...keep 'em coming!!

@therealgarygnu Cant control the weather brother, sorry
wildernessoutfitters 1 month ago
@wildernessoutfitters So then you're not praying for good weather every night before bed? I would. But hey, I don't know how long you intend to go with this yurt series... I do hope you keep the structure up for the duration of the season.... and maybe do some short series when the weather gets bad or cold, to really test the yurt. But I love how you're demonstrating the lifestyle that can be lead, that of a more simple time.

Dave, if you're ever in IL, you can help me clean my place LOL! Love the vids and everything you do and stand for!

Disclaimer, I am in no way suggesting drug use, just joking about the speed ... hahahah (that was sort of a pun, still joking!)

@wildernessoutfitters What do you think of metal buckets or stock pots for using as stowage? You gain the ability to boil or cook in large quantities

Their tents have the stove jack in the corner....having used the center placement in the yurt for a while...I'd love to hear your thoughts on the pros / cons of these two stove placement locations. With the corner placement, I was concerned how hot the stove is right next to the tent fabric..and a potential fire hazard.
Thanks!
Nacholibre1968 1 month ago 5
@Nacholibre1968 I would MUCH rather have the stove pipe through a wall, but this yurt did not have that option.
wildernessoutfitters 1 month ago
@wildernessoutfitters Wouldn't heat be more widely dispersed if it was in the middle? Or would you want it out of the way? Could you please explain why.
keyub1 1 month ago
@Nacholibre1968 When you would use a Snowtrekker Tent, it should be cold outside, but if not, get the 2 foot rolled sheet of aluminum from the hardware store and cut off a 3 foot section. Aluminum reflects radiant heat good. After cutting, it will stand on it's own as it will have some curl in left in it from being rolled up. It is light weight and will roll up inside of stove pipe. The same metal can be cut to sit between the legs and on top the brace to protect the floor.

hey Dave how many more days are you going to live in the yurt ?
maina715 1 month ago
A piece of sheet metal or cookie pan under the stove should also work. Don't have any ideas for a multi-use item for that purpose. I'm surprised that folks complained about a little dirt. I'd prefer dirt floors so there ain't no complaining....
