That's a very good question. It's even better to ask: why does ANY private entity get federal money in the first place? It's picking favorites and it breeds corruption in government and business.

I then turned back to CNN where they were showing the efforts to stop the nuclear disaster.

It is imortant, because what they are really trying to do, is to stop the people from getting real, true information . They know we don't get it from cable news, thats a dog and pony show. NPR is one of the few true news sources out there. This is kind of crucial . . . especially when you think about the people in small towns, who would be woefully misinformed . . .
