Is this America with Ron Paul and no help from government? But Obama is no freedom and our rights are being took away.We have 1 year to decide on what they have given us to vote for in America.Freedom or dictatorship
as a Chinese, I really think we should pay more attention to education situations in some remote villages...hope I could be able to help them in the future!
@redCode526 buddy, education is useless when there are no high tech jobs, education is going to turn people into half-brained rebels who oppose the government. We need to create surplus people artificially because no one will do labor when they are educated
Thats what i used to think but apparently they get paid for filming them.
Not many people especially rural families are accepting to the idea of cameras in their homes despite how poor they may be , but some accept on condition of being paid.
why drive people from independence and self sufficiency , break the family destroy the traditions make them dependents of a centralized government far away and send their kids for a brainwashing school....crazy world , we need to do the other way and become independent and self sufficient...
"But for now (he) prefers to stay with his family in the village where they were born." This is important to understand. They could make a lot more money and live better if they were willing to follow the jobs - but they're not. Its hard to take their efforts to help their children seriously if they're not even willing to move to find better opportunities. They could both move to the South.
@Ksabrs45 there could be several reasons for why they're unwilling(at the moment) to migrate from their village. example, they need someone to stay behind and look after their property and land. they don't seem to have elderly parents who can stay behind and watch/guard the property while they seek their fortune in the cities. also, maybe, the idea of moving to a city is daunting to them(not every one can handle such a drastic move). stop being so cynical and judgmental.
Sure, the point is that they have preferences that override money and material progress. They could have more money but they don't want to sell their land or take on new life challenges. I'm stating the obvious.
@atemlos2585 i'm not a westerner but i have to ashamedly admit i used to be the kind who didn't appreciate school. my parents sent me to a private school that was expensive & my mum would regularly remind me how lucky i was to be getting the opportunities i was getting(going to a famous/expensive school) but i used to always be like "whatever- i don't care". but watching this documentary and just in general getting older every year has made me wiser. i wish i had worked harder in school.
I don't think that's true generally. I've been teaching here for two semesters, first their education is incredibly outdated - the kids are bored by their education. If you talk to them they'll tell you that all they want to do is sleep in their free time. They don't appreciate it per say, like one might appreciate a gift from a friend, they feel guilt. Their parents have guilted them into submission, "Look how much we've done for you! ALL WE WANT IS FOR YOU TO HAVE A GOOD LIFE!".
@Ksabrs45 I guess the " these" the author brought up doesn't refer to all chinese students, only the ones in poor learning conditions. what do you mean by chinese education is outdated, do you mean subjects such as chinese, math or physics can be outdated ?
I mean that based on my personal observations Chinese teachers use teacher centered teaching methods and expect students to implement rote memorization in order to pass exams. Their obsession with endless testing is just ridiculous. Of course, theses problems are not limited to China.
@atemlos2585 am ugandan n we too pay for our school fees, studyin to us is more of a competition meanin there's no time to fool around during holidays those who can afford go for private tution, its totally true westerners know nothin about books and studyin right now all I hear is mothers complaning to teachers how they overgive homework to their kids
@atemlos2585 *sigh* again with the generalizations, I am a westerner and I greatly appreciate my education as well as all of the hardwork my parents have to go through to pay for it. I know I am not the only one.
