well, to me this is not a review other than reading spec sheets. What about the lousy touch of the 60D botons for example? Have you actually tried both cameras yourself? used them in real life. This way of reviewing will always give the more expensive camera as a winner. I honestly think that de 60D is a pointless "bastard" camera, no feature is so good enough to justify the price difference. I'd recommend the 550D or make a financial effort and get a 7D.
I've shot two(2) music videos with this camera! I must say..I am very, very impressed! The images are awesome!!!! Feel free to check my channel and judge for yourself. For those who ponder if they should get this camera? I will tell you, for it's price, It's a must!
I am getting the 60D but i can't decide on what lens to buy. This is my first DSLR. I have the sigma 50mm f1.4 in mind because I'm into potraits and low light but i might need to use it on my trips also. Can I use it as a walk around lens? I don't mind walking towards or away from my subject but maybe there could be other factors I'm unaware of. I'm on a budget so I'll have to save up for some months to buy another lens.Should I get it? Plz do reply.
17-55IS was my deciding factor for the Canon over Nikon. Nikon doesn't have anything that can match it. Full frames don't have anything that can match it!
Aftoftheimage i need a good camera to record videos with a good quality can u tell me wich one i should buy the canon 60D or NEX-VG10 plz =) i need a help with a profetional thanks.
I just bought a Cannon T2i in December and changed the firmware Magic Lantern. Once I got over the audio problems I've able to take some really nice video's.
Unconvincing, repeats over and over, could be done in 2 min. The 60D has slight margin in some specs, which most of us will never care about. I've been photographing 30+ yrs and shutter 1/4000 vs. 1/8000, coverage 95% vs. 96%, Xsync 1/200 vs. 1/250, burst 3.7 vs. 5.3 -- these don't amount to anything much for most everybody. OTOH you carry 40% more weight and you pay 25% more, but you feel great because it's not "entry-level" anymore! Stick to 550D or wait for 600D with the tilting screen.
oh i'm also considering 7d as well. i just feel like canon produces warmer colors and video quality allows me to do slow motion over d7000. Thanks for the help
i own a d7000 and i like it but paying 1500 doesn't leave me room to buy other lenses. should i sell d7000 and get 60d with a good lense? I do like the feel of both d7000 and 60d but 550 is just way too tiny in my hands and feels plasticy. Please let me know
@overpolished - Thanks! I kinda over-looked this as it's not something I've used or had a problem with. I use a Rode Shotgun mic and the AGC has never been a problem with it, but you're right... it's a great feature to have!
@ArtoftheImage ACG is a massive issue but for video the 550d is better because you can get the magi lantern firmware for it, but once the ML firmware is out on the 60d that will be better :)
Thanks for the good review. Are you sure about both cameras having the same autofocus system? I think the 60D uses 9 cross-type sensors and the 550D uses 9 sensors with the center sensor being cross-type and extra sensitive with a lens at and faster than 2.8. The 60D also allows you to manually adjust your audio for video. Also, the 60D has more white balance options than the 550D which is also great for video. Keep the videos coming.
@wild12mild1 - Yes, you're right. The 60D has the 9 cross-type sensors, but I'm mostly a center point / focus recompose shooter so that doesn't really make any difference for me (or I did think it should anyway... so far the 60D I just bought seems to have noticeably better AF and the only difference I can see in the specs is the extra cross-type sensors).
I tested both extensively in the shop last week. I agree the viewfinder for 60D is much desirable. The LCD is also a deciding factor. The other stuff is not important to me. The cons for 60d is the extra weight. I finally settle for the 550d. I wish this video was available last week and I would double consider. I done a extensive review video and test with a good lens. You can check it out in my channel.
@eq5uinox - Tough call! The D7000 has better warranty and a higher ranking sensor on DXOMark.com, but, that said, I'm really liking my 60D. The articulated screen rocks! I also got my 60D for over $300 less than my D7000, so that's a factor too. Play with both, look at the lens offerings of both Canon and Nikon, and see which one you like better. They're both good cameras.
you can now get 8000 shutter speed with magic lantern for the 550D

Can the 550d use the Canon L Lenses too?
I think they are almost the same, the 60d is faster, and stronger, but for me its not worth the 300,- more over the 550D.

@FutureOfGamesNL yes! L lenses fit perfectly on any canon crop sensor camera

Just a bit curious.

Half the things you just mentioned are not important for the majority of the target market of these camera's, except the vari-angle screen perhaps.

You did not mention the ability to turn off AGC. I find this to be a very nice feature for video.

@overpolished in the t2i you can install a hack called magic lantern, then you got lot's of options, and one of them is to turn off the AGC

@eq5uinox The d7000 is actually quite small and as I have huge hands I am getting the 60D. However that is just me.
