A common misconception is that he hated Obi-Wan. In truth, he loved the character, but later disliked being identified solely with his role as Kenobi.
One of the great English actors along with Ralph Richardson. John Gielgud, and Laurence Olivier. All classicly trained in the Shakespearean tradition but capable of widely varied roles as their careers showed.
for us modern moviegoers, to have been a part of Star Wars is pure epicness, but Sir Alec Guinness comes from the early part of the 20th Century known as the Golden Age of Movies that were so epic that they became the stuff of legends and inspiration for even George Lucas and his Modern Star Wars film. For this Reason, one can see why Sir Alec was quite discomforted to know that the majority of later generations today only remembers him for some modern flick of the late 70's
@TheGreatHeroKing Even the actors have said the lines are awful. Read the scripts without watching the movie and you will agree. Alec Guinness hated the scripts.
@TheGreatHeroKing I don't hate Star wars for the most part. The first one was the best. The later ones sucked. Attack of the Clones, The Phantom Menace were dreadful.
Heavens to Murgatroid! What a cool clip! The late great Mr Guiness coverted to the Roman Catholic faith after becoming an adult & became quite devout. I have browsed thru his bio ("Blessings in Disguise") & it was certainly a fascinating read. He came across as not only intelligent & ariculate but humble, gentle & down to earth. THANKS for posting this illuminating & enertaining interview. CHEERS! :-)

Some of the most Blessed people on this earth are the most subdued, modest, and quite conservative by nature. One of them would be Sir Alec Guinness!

It's funny he never really liked Star Wars, he made a suggestion to Lucas to kill off Obi wan. Because he hated the lines so much.

@TheGreatHeroKing Well, I guess it depends on your education and background. Alec Guiness thought the whole thing was juvenile.

@VIDEOTIMEMACHINE It was awful based on how it was written or how it played out on a the movies?

Alec Guinness was a fantastic "grown-up". It's unfortunate that growing up went out of style and became a lost art.
