If I buy a coat for sub freezing temperatures a Columbia Sportswear jacket isn't one. 900 to 1200 bucks is insane. You could get an Arctic rated parka for a lot less (250-300), and are a lot better (goose down). I do see another problem with your really expensive jacket. The heat produced is from a battery, and have a draining duration charge. Your body heat lasts longer, you need insulation. No matter the situation in these conditions, you want something that lasts. Hypothermia is dangerous.
