not 2 mention the canadian armored brigades killed germanys best tank ace the black barron who had more then 90 confermed kills and lead the final SS armored defence before the rhine river... and the canadian tanks wer ordered NOT to cross the river to attack the remaining fleeing germans... 2 days later pattons 3rd army crossed the rhine and got the credit for being the first into germany.... same thing happened in italy, america got all the credit when canada kicked ass 2.. fuck usa
@quentil I would by no means call D-Day a failure, it was an essential part of what led to the defeat of Hitler and his "thousand year reich" and many brave men paid the ultimate price in the Normandy invasion. But the more I read about D-Day the more I think that if for instance our troops on Omaha Beach hadn't been weighted down with packs and the Nazi defences at Omaha had been hit with precision bombing prior to the troop landings instead of most of the bombs and ship guns missing them
It's so right to remember those who gave their lives in World War 2 for the sake of our freedom. To learn more about the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in the European Theater, you can download an ebook titled "The High Price of Freedom: The American Graves Registration Command in Europe After World War II." The book is available at the LULU website.
I sort of have mixed feelings. Was it worth fighting for? Absolutely! All of Europe, including Germany, would have suffered even more had this operation failed. On the other hand, why are we fighting each other? Well, that really is an important question to ask. War is only worth fighting when the cause is just, and even then there are rules that must be followed.
@PinoyFlash I must confess, however reluctantly so, that there is truth in what you're saying. However, that does not change the ethics of it; it merely demonstrates that not everyone is willing to follow the ethics. All we can do is resolve, individually, to be among those who do.
a communist country? :D communism was the opposite of hitler's idea, no, if hitler had succeded in conquering the world (he never would, simply impossible at that time!) than everybody would speak german and there would be one man who controles a whole world with terror, fear and the idea of the perfect german man. Strong, pure german blood, blonde hair, blue eyes, intelligent and full of hate against anything else
Guys!Communist comes from common(as in community).Hitler wanted people to look the same, act the same, and have the same stuff so nobody would feel envy(this would have disrupted his order). He wanted absolute order at his control. He invented the common community car,the Volkswagon(folks wagon;common community car for the common man). His vision would have brought a communist lifestyle for all if he had seized control of the free world. So yes,we would have been a communist country eventually.
actually I think this person with the post below is right..it would have been communism..Hitler's germany would have lost the war anyway, but, Russia loomed..D Day and the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were meant to send a message to Stalin almost as much as winning the war..

@quentil Whoa, hold on a second. Who exactly calls D-Day a failure? I ask only because this is the first I've ever heard that anyone did.

and landing in either the surf or behind enemy lines, then we might not have lost so many men at Omaha on that day IMHO.

Yes, it is worth it. If we had not fought that day, we would not be free. We would be a communist country speaking German.

The thing that really puzzles me is how the Aryan ideal, tall blond blue-eyed etc was thought up by Hitler, who was short and dark.

Actually, I'm gonna have to disagree. The reason: Hitler despised Communism as much as Judaism. It would have been Fascism, not Communism.
