The Possum Drop started after 1999... I want to say it was 2000 the first year! I know my oldest son was little and in a stroller! Everyone thought the Possum was real and the rumor was if you caught it when it hit the ground you won $100! The kids were disappointed when it dropped and it was a stuffed animal! also the first one was held in another location... it ascended from the top of Tallapoosa Drugs Building! I might could dig out pictures from it!
Good that it is not real, but still- kids might pick up this as a normal behavior towards an animal..
