Chris raises a good point. Some government laws help protect the weak or the minorities among us who would get swallowed up or disenfranchised in the total Libertarian world Ron Paul proposes. I just wish Ron Paul would allow for certain federal laws/restrictions. There are no longer "colored" water fountains. In some parts of the U.S. that's because the people chose to do away with them. But in other parts of the country it took laws to bring about that change.

@Subterranaea I watched the video again to see if I had missed or forgotten Paul citing the constitution in context of defining guidance and I didn't notice anything concerning that but I did pay closer attention to Paul's response to Mathews suggesting Paul wouldn't support the 1964 Civil Rights Act. You can see by Paul's response he wouldn't support something like that.
If you're not familiar with the '64 Rights Act you may want to check it out.
I would encourage all supporters of Dr. Paul to contact the sponsors of the Sean Hannity Show and tell them you intend to boycott their products or services until Mr.Hannity stops his smear campaign against Ron Paul.
About the signs, I would have added that on the flip-side having these laws actually keeps racist business owners from outing themselves. An example in a town I lived in, Norwich CT, "Old Times Restaurant", owned by a closet KKK member. He made lots of money off primarily black customers because of his location, and only lost business AFTER calling an employee an "eggplant". If he posted a "whites only" sign in Norwich, he'd have gone bankrupt and been driven out of town IF HE WAS VERY LUCKY.

The Civil Rights Act gave the federal government unprecedented power over the hiring, employee relations, and customer service practices of every business in the country. The result was a massive violation of the rights of private property & contract, which are the bedrocks of free society. IN a free society we aren't judged in groups, we are seen as individuals. Chris raises a good point. Some government laws help protect the weak or the minorities among us who would get swallowed up or disenfranchised in the total Libertarian world Ron Paul proposes. I just wish Ron Paul would allow for certain federal laws/restrictions. There are no longer "colored" water fountains. In some parts of the U.S. that's because the people chose to do away with them. But in other parts of the country it took laws to bring about that change.

@Subterranaea I watched the video again to see if I had missed or forgotten Paul citing the constitution in context of defining guidance and I didn't notice anything concerning that but I did pay closer attention to Paul's response to Mathews suggesting Paul wouldn't support the 1964 Civil Rights Act. You can see by Paul's response he wouldn't support something like that.
If you're not familiar with the '64 Rights Act you may want to check it out.

About the signs, I would have added that on the flip-side having these laws actually keeps racist business owners from outing themselves. An example in a town I lived in, Norwich CT, "Old Times Restaurant", owned by a closet KKK member. He made lots of money off primarily black customers because of his location, and only lost business AFTER calling an employee an "eggplant". If he posted a "whites only" sign in Norwich, he'd have gone bankrupt and been driven out of town IF HE WAS VERY LUCKY.

When people talk about how we're "not free" or we're "not as free as we used to be, or should be" they mean that the government (with the help of big businesses and corporations) has taken control of a lot of the aspects of our lives and the economy/market with regulations and unjust taxes. -The government benefits itself at our expense.

@randygwillickers Also, if you compare the condition of America 50 years ago, to the condition of America today, you'll see the current lack of freedom. Perhaps you don't see it or feel it for the same reason a frog or lobster in a pot of water doesn't realize it's being boiled to death: -the change is subtle and gradual, but very dangerous.
