nice review... im seriously looking into the ar57 upper, looks like it shoots pretty damn good and i havent heard of a single malfunction from anybody... i do plan on keeping open sights though after seeing the problems people have with scopes... i think an agog would fit just fine without interfering but thats the same price as the upper and its not really a long range cartridge anyway and im pretty decent with open sights so im ok with that
@elnegradingo Thanks I appreciate it. It's a lot of fun to shoot, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. You're right about the scopes, I think open sights are probably best.
Comment on the long distance shooting during war or citizen unrest in an urban setting .In my option close quarters fire fights will be the common and this is a perfect gun for that purposes .Along with the 50 round mag and the easy break down and clean.
I like the P 90. Shot it with my dad at a range. I am just not a fan. Give me my good ole 5.56 anyday. But more liked is the 6.8SPC . Just my op. You did do a kick ass job in you vid I liked it. Gotta go we got friggin Tornado sirens going off! Friggin Earthquakes one day now twisters! Shoot me a 5.7 prayer!
Why would ya put a gutted mag in to catch empty brass? Noisy? The mag swap on that is a jokeGood vid brother but I do not like that system. Just my op
@1TacticalMedic The mag is just to collect the brass, if you reload. Nothing else. The mag swap isn't so bad if you don't have a scope. If you do, it's terrible. I don't disagree with your assessment. I wouldn't choose it for defense or a firefight, just because of the mag swap issue. Way to slow and cumbersome to swap out. I have never shot the P90, so I don't know if that's better or not. Have you? Do you like it?
@ak7wyf You know, I don't really think they're priced that bad, not considering it's really good ammo. A box of good .45 or 9mm can cost $20-24, and this stuff is $22. The difference is that they don't offer cheap plinker ammo.
I've heard the round is tough to reload, have you tried?
I would never buy one of these ever. The ONLY reason, is the ammo cost. I could get a box of 20 of 223 for $5. A box of 50 for this is $20. The cost of the ammo in its self stops me. Good review.....great upper....though. If the ammo was not so high. Maybe, I would.
@mugsie101 A lot of people say that about the cost, but here's the way I look at it: I mostly shoot 5.7 through my FN handgun, so I compare the cost of a box of 5.7 to handgun ammo, and with that it's right on par with most other cal. of ammo.
Another point -- that $5 box of ammo you're comparing it to is crap ammo, the FN 5.7 stuff is some really good stuff made by Fiocchi. Black Hills is about $35-50 per box of 50. Now the argument can be made that you don't have ammo options with the 5.7.
@mugsie101 I own one of these. A very good gun, I can find the ammo all day for $18 all over Vegas. Its comparable to 5.56 in price. And its a blast to shoot.
@Orbit915 No, never. It's not meant as a standard rifle cartridge. The 5.7 is meant as a bridge between the 9mm and the 5.56, not a replacement for either. It doesn't have the power or range of the 5.56 -- which many people feel is underpowered, anyway -- so there's no way anyone in the US or NATO would sign off on it replacing anything.
@762x51n8o several divisions of the secret service use the FN PS90 . just saying .i dont ever thing this would take over the M4 . but i deff think this will become a more widely used ( and hopefully other ammo manufactuers will kick out some cheaper ammo ) amongst urban /police /security forces . . its a great round up to 150 yds .but falls off aggrssively after that.
@NaDaJH One big problem with 5.56 is that it is weak, can't penetrate, and in a m16 in the hands of a marksman will only reach out and kill someone to 500 yards. All problems in the current wars. With shooting being done at long ranges a lot of the time, and enemies hiding behind cover which is abundant in urban areas.A replacement round would have to address these issues.Idk about the 6.8 remmington, but if that is what I think it is,it won't do the job.
@ultrajd It would make an OK beginners rifle. I think the BEST beginners rifle is something in .22. What is the age of the shooter? For a beginner, I would get a simple .22 bolt action with iron or peep sights. If you're talking really young, look at the Cricket. Even a basic semi auto .22 would be better, like the Ruger 10/22 or Marlin Model 60. .22s are inexpensive to buy ($150-250), ammo is dirt cheap (550rds for $16), and there's no recoil. New shooters can just focus on fundamentals.
@762x51n8o The age of the shooter is 20 I have a friend that wants to get into compilation shooting and he feels that this would be a good rifle to start on. I want to get one of these too mostly for target shooting myself but Im just curios about pricing.
nice review... personally I would rather use a Lucid HD7 Scope, which should make the mag change a lot quicker (the Lucid HD7 Scope is a great match for the ballistics). I know the original Mfg as well as one of the company owners and we have been talking about doing some takedown videos. I'll just wait and see. glad you like it, it's a very innovative design
@weaponeer That's a great point, a red dot would make a lot more sense in regards to swapping mags. I had initially set this one up as a squirrel gun, but learned the 5.7 is a little much for squirrel.
@762x51n8o - I shot my XP100 in 221 Fireball at a large Bunny and pretty much vaporized it, so I know how you feel about shooting small game with things like these.. lol
@kaliodenboy - Thanks. I haven't compared ballistics between the .17 HMR and the 5.7FN, but a couple of basics I know, since the 5.7 uses a .224, the same as 5.56NATO, it is going to be a bit bigger. The .17 HMR is ballistically SIMILAR (but not same) to the .22 WMR. I've read the 5.7FN (from a 5" barrel) is ballistically better than a .22 WMR shot out of a 24" barrel. captainvirgilhilts has done some great videos on it. For some reason it won't let me link to his Youtube channel
@Idinatan There's a bit of a learning curve to it, but I'm getting better. I'm much faster than I was the first time I did it. It's certainly not a drop, grab, slap like on a conventional AR.

To me, I think that gun would be better off with either just iron sights or a Holo/red dot sight. There's no point for a scope on a gun like that.

@Orbit915 as the video said, it's a plink gun, for fun
the cartridge was originally developed to be used for PDW
or small compact personal defense weapons for people like tank crews or medics
5.56 has problems itself
and the US Army is not gonna replace the 5.56 with a smaller 5.7 round
But I hope they would replace the 5.56 with 6.8 Remington
