  • Great job! I'm told that 100watt equivalent CFL daylight/natural light works best.

    I think 5000k.

  • If you do cloth you could use Velcro.

  • exactly wut i needed..thx man ! great video keep em coming

  • best diy softbox ive ever seen

  • i've found a good solution to what you put on the front of your softbox to diffuse the light...nylon rip stop. if you get a square of fabric bigger than your softbox, you can sew thin round elastic cord into a seam and then just stretch it over the front of your softbox, no tape needed! it holds itself on. any fabric store carries rip stop and elastic and both are cheap. the nylon is great as it comes in tons of colours and it's the perfect thickness for basic lighting.

  • Well done ,

  • I like it! ima make one tomorow :3

  • cool awsome!

  • Nice! I'm making one today. Thanks.

  • hv40, that's my camera :]

  • What's the intro music? I dig it!

  • I am a photographer and was watching some videos on youtube and found your ... Dude excellent tutorial, you have a great future in photography.

  • I along with the others just want to say your video is fantastic, you presented well, are articulate, good video skills. I along with the others will save a lot of money, using your method, thanks a lot and I look forward to more of your tuturials, and other video skill tips

  • hey..guys..did u know how to solve the problem shotting night scene with the lighting without any power supply.. headache = (

  • @chean91 Well you can use either a small generator if you have the money, or a car battery with an power inverter to be able to use a normal 110v outlet.

  • @Purdyc12393 Power inverter? Not understand >.<

  • @chean91 one of those things you have in a car to convert the cigarette outlet 12v dc to normal wall plug 110v ac. you can get em online or at a hardware store

  • Sky Vodka!!!

  • Excellent video kid. Loved how you sped up the video and we could still hear the audio.

  • the speeded up sounds were cool. well done vid. good geometry skills.

  • the speeded up sounds were cool. well done vid.

  • yay i had that sam table :)

  • very cool

  • What are the dimensions of the trapizoides? Great video! You saved me some major $

  • @Makeupb He is using a 30 60 90 degree stencil. I can tell you that much.

  • @zim4xbox Also, I used small binder clips to hold the paper on. Like the ones used to hold large wads of paper together. Im using this light in my current video on my channel.

  • good job if you decide to do it with fabric use velcro to attach it to the box

  • nice job! out of all the one i seen..

  • WOW! Thanks for the very detailed and informative video! EXCELLENT job buddy!

  • Great video - most comprehensive and detailed diy soft box tutorial on here. Thanks man

  • lol'd @ 2:49

    btw great vid thx

i love DIYs coz i dnt have much money hahahah

  • Do you think it will burn because the heat is really hot

  • goob job man very talented young man

  • @uzbekclips Agree!

  • WoW. you can really see a difference between the quality of light in the begining of the video compared to the end. great job.

What type of bulb did you use? Volts, watts or whatever?

  • jajajaja muy buen tutorial amigo gracias

  • damn kid, nice job! and thanks a ton! i knew it was simple to do but wasnt sure how to go about it.

  • oh yeah ment to say i used a 500 watt hallogen light

  • well i made one to your guide and it works perfectly . thanks man you just saved me a shit load of cash :)

  • great video and awesome soft box im off to make one thanks

  • the way how the light is spilling in the ''softbox'' is simply bullshit. why? because of the fact that he leave´s the reflectiv shield on, the light can never spill around and fill the whole softbox that is why this is more or less useless

  • @CountryMaster16 well thats not really true, if i am understanding you correctly. the light does fill the whole softbox, and does its job in softening and evening out the light. in the video it looks like there is one light spot, but in fact that is just the auto-exposure adjusting to the bright light. for a moment after i turn it on, before the camera adjusts, you can see how it looks to the eye.

  • @Purdyc12393 mesure it with an lightmeter you will get about 1 1 and 1/2 stop dirence or more in the corners because the shield really increases the fillfactor of the light try it once without the shield and you will see what i mean

  • Great job on the tutorial and on your video production as well!

  • Really good...........thanks for the idea and great video!

  • Very good great job...

  • A really cool idea and a great video as well. I just wondered, as you've had time to use it now, does it get very hot? I worry that if it was left on for a while it might overheat either the tape or the cardboard?

  • Great job!

  • You could coat the cardboard with fiberglass resin to make it more durable. Great video man.

  • Great job, I might do this myself. Except instead of tapping the parchment paper or fabric you could Velcro it. That would make things much easier, especially when you need to change the light bulb. Thanks.

  • well done , I am impressed that you took the time to make the soft box 10/10

  • Damn, that was a great Tutorial, I learn a lot about how to build a Softbox. Buy one of these softbox are too many expensive. Thanks for that ^^ "Thumbs UP!"

  • Yeah I agree hearing the cutting and stuff was annoying but dudeee this is a clever idea and i appreciate you sharing this man! this is bomb! thanks!

  • skyy vodka^^

  • You know what you could do whenever you started building or assembling something? Put some mood music. That really kicks up a notch the quality of the videos. Really liked the DIY though, nice.

  • Great work dude.. thank you.

  • yeah... 5 stars for sure.

  • Fantastic job Chris !!! Five star

  • I just made this using foam board. One huge problem (and it may be because I didn't make it out of cardboard). The problem is that it weighs down the light scoop. No matter how tight I tighten the hinge, it always falls forward, lighting only my floor. Again, it may be because of material I used. Can't imagine cardboard being much lighter, though.

  • @sonne5 by that do you mean the can light keeps tilting down?Maybe it is a problem with the ball and sockety deal. Those seem to fall apart pretty quickly...

  • good job!!! the only thing is mute the sound of the time lapse video..its a bit annoying.....great job anyway

  • Kid sounds so depressed.

  • Good job kid!

  • Where I can find a lamp, like that?

  • @kritajti home depot will do or any hardware store, i saw one in warlmart

  • Just make sure the tin foil is SHINY side up. He put it on dull side up.

  • @kbtrumpeteer yeah i put the the dull side up, but only for the first side if you notice. after the first side all the rest are shiny side up.

  • the one person who disliked this has never seen art attack before and clearly just bought one lol

  • Good job, bro.

  • Great Job....

  • I'd love to try making this, except for what one reviewer said: Cardboard is unsafe. I suppose it could catch fire if you used a hot enough light. Probably be ok though if you really put a lot of foil around the cardboard.

  • Very good! I've seen other videos and you've got a good one!

  • Great Job!

  • what type of light do yoy use? i tried finding one like this, but here in uk, i cant find one anywhere.

  • I think you should use the reflecting site of these alu paper!!

  • Comment removed

  • You should put several layers of wax paper for more diffusion.

  • hey man what are the dimendions for it so ican make it

  • Well done mate! ima give it a go! :)

  • Thanks so much!

  • Eww SKYY Vodka.

    Decent Vid.

  • Good stuff man. Thanks.

  • great job!

  • good video but terrible intro song

  • Man bro, u are amazing!! I am so doing this!! lolz

  • This was so cool!

  • Hoy %$#@ ! I thought of the same dam exact thing!

    Every detail is the same!

    Great video!

    Keep It up!

  • great job thanx

  • I'm so gonna make this, I was thinking of buying a softbox as well.

    Cardboard ftw.

  • i have the same light what are the measurment 4 the soft box ?

  • Great tut! Will save me hundreds... I have to ask, what digicam are you using to shoot this? The quality is incredible. Waiting for more.

  • Nice, but I think there's too much heat for the cardboard and the duct tape.

  • @brtn87 well, it depends what kind of light/bulb you are using, he used a CFL bulb which conducts no heat so it wouldnt be an issue in his case

  • @mrbobdude101: CFL bulbs do conduct heat, just not as much as a regular light bulb. The only lights i can think of that dont conduct heat are LED lights. The are cool to the touch but kind of pricey.

  • Love the big box of skyy in the background at 2:08 haha.

  • hahahahaha!!!

  • Wow! And I was going to spend $300 on a softbox

  • totally not worth it, this works just as well.

  • haha, i thought the same thing

  • but dont use the side of the foil he was using the shinyer side will reflect much more

  • nice work young man i will try one soon

  • i just built this from your tutorial not 15 min ago, and what really did the trick for me was a new all white t-shirt for the scrim on the outside. and then i just attached it to the box using c-47s

  • I admire you kid!

  • Realy nice man :)

  • In this case you should use like a 100W Incandescent bulb..

  • wow this was very helpful

  • that light is so weak u dont even that baking paper

  • nice work my friend...really good job.

  • pretty cool tutorial man i just might go and make myself one of those lol

  • Great video! I was going to buy one, but this will work just as well, and I can customize it to fit my lights. Thanks!

  • great job..how much did it cost you

  • do more builds dude

  • Good work. Very industrious man!!! One question though, does the gaffer tape that is attached to the light melt?

  • I don't think they would melt since the light he's using is a fluorescent and it doesn't get hot as a halogen.

  • Awsome Job on that softbox and because I learned something from you, I will teach you something in return.

For the parchment paper attachment use stick on velcro you can pick it up at the dollar store. that way you can take off the parchment or silk and still have access to the lightbulb.

    Thanks for the great tutorial.

  • hi, how to get this nice white bachground?

  • i just used some green poster board and keyed it out in final cut. its not perfect but it works. but if you are always going to be using a white background, a bedsheet with some strong lights(worklights) works good. then i would mess around with the contrast and such in post so you cannot see any wrinkles.

  • Thanks Bro..

  • nice;0 congratulations from Romania

  • Great job ;-) Congratulations from Belgium.

  • Great job..!

  • Simple, cheap, effective! You have proven that there is no need to overcomplicate this stuff. Outstanding innovation. I am inspired!

  • The bulb is a compact flourescent or cfl, the ones that are like a swirly shape. you could just use a normal bulb but i think the cfls have a more white lite.

  • What kind of the bulb are you used?

  • sry this is me on different account. I used a 30 60 90 triangle and i believe i used 30 degrees for the traps.

  • Just wanted to stop by and say thanks! Yours was by far the best tutorial on making a softbox. I changed it up a little bit using white nylon fabric and making the box a little wider/deeper but my lighting has been greatly improved. Thanks man and keep up the tutorials.

  • very smart :)

  • Your awesome. Great job!

  • thanks a lot

  • thx i made one and my dad took the light back tho lolz, so ill just get another, thx alot! ive been searching and searching!

  • Nice work. But Isn´t it easier to get a foodcover and make a hole in the middle for the light. Also put some white cloth on the inside and on the front. It's much firmer than your cardboard.

    But still, nice video
