Chad is my favorite drummer. He is groovy.

I really don't like the drummers who are like robots. For example, death metal drummers. Yeah they're fast, but not really amazing. They abused the double pedal too much and Chad Smith doesn't use that. I love Chad Smith. He is the best there is and he is good at what he does and you can tell that he is having fun. Not like these straight faced drummers that don't have emotions when they're playing drums.

You're kind of right. I'm a drummer, and I try to play all different styles, which includes death metal. I am in several bands, including a death metal band. Their music is very physically demanding, but I feel nothing when I play with them, just because the music isn't 'groovy'.

It's also the fact that ghost notes, which add a hell of a lot to the groove, when used right, are not common in death metal drumming. Sometimes I take my double pedal off - I suggest this for all drummers.

Yup. The double pedal is really irritating. Hearing the bass drum fucking bang so many times is really fucked up. For me, single pedal drummers are very very good.

For me, death metal is all about double pedals and fast drum rolls with technical off beat throwdowns. I can't listen to a Death Metal band. I can't listen to one album full of double pedals, shredding and useless screaming.

I have learned how to make my single pedal sound like a double... At gigs other bands' drummers have asked for me to teach them... they are overused.... most of the time

Cheers! Chad is a down-to-earth, all around great guy. He came to Mt.Clemens MI twice to play music for us and both times spent time with fans, mingled, and shared a beer with me. Hell of a human being.

I love Chad Smith. Because, he does stuff like this. He's humble enough to perform clinics and things like this. He just has fun playing the drums and it's refreshing to see that. I also love that he can lose a stick, get another one and not miss a beat.
