@LordProfBear This is not only talking about hundreds of years ago. It is also addressing the problem of gentrification that is still going on today. This gentrification makes the economic situation for blacks and latinos much worse. And although all whites are not their criminal ancestors, there is a sense of privilege amongst whites that makes them feel as though they can do whatever they want without any regard for others. He is merely mentioning ways to be more sensitive to the history of oppression in this country that affect certain groups of people. He never said white people are racist.

He is saying that certain language is off-putting to certain groups because of oppressive history in America; he then mentioned the term "occupy" (in occupy wall street) and how sensitive some are to the word because of past colonialism and current gentrification. He only said that whites in the movement should be mindful of what they say/do if they want a broad-based movement. He never said whites today are guilty of past crimes.
