@Breakneckhydra1 More safe than boxing I think and probably football, but not baseball. Baseball is pretty safe compared to MMA. I wouldn't call MMA one of the safest sports on the planet. I think it's one of the more dangerous sports.  Getting hit in the head is not good for you. Since they make competitors stand again it puts more emphasis on striking which increases the risk of concussion which is the worst injury because it effects your mind. Don't get me wrong though, I like MMA.

There have been 6 American baseball deaths just by getting hit with a ball, and only 2 in American MMA.

MMA > Baseball

Think of it this way, an MMA fight, is only 5 five minutes rounds AT MOST, and most of the time its short controlled bursts of strikes because if you take more then a few shots in a row the ref calls the fight.

Now look at boxing.12 rounds. TWELVE!

And you get hit way more, because the ONLY thing in boxing is strikes.

MMA > boxing

@Breakneckhydra1 I agree that boxing is worse, but there are a lot more people playing baseball than fighting in MMA, so I think that accounts for the higher number. So I still disagree and would say that baseball is a safer sport. The negative I have to say about baseball is it is boring, and as for the athletes, it's just asking to strain a muscle by remaining idle and then exerting yourself maximally. So I think baseball generally sucks all the way around, but is not really that dangerous.

IN boxing and kickboxing, it's constant punishment to the brain and body, over nad over and over... not only in the actual fight, but also in practice... that's years and years of punishment to the brain. And that's not good...

In MMA,, there is a lot of ground and wrestling. Thus you don't get hit, in the head, near as much in the fight or in training!

Splitting the fight into rounds allows fighters to regain stamina, thus allowing them to throw a greater number of harder strikes, sustaining more damage. Both of those alterations are specifically what I'm talking about. I agree that making headbutting illegal makes the sport a little safer, and it definitely changes the dynamics.

man the main card had some great fights I mean i was very impressed with clay guida he had good head movement and choked out gomi in Round 2 and i was even more impressed with Brian Stann.
