  • mira's mom is way too formal

Wishing you best, Sage Von Cariga III

    by the way

    this is amazing!!!!!!!!!!

  • Woodchoppers! nice job

  • well played. I learn classical violin but when I hear music this, played well then I start thinking about learning some bluegrass. You sound great.

  • Hi Brian,

Thanks for the encouraging comments. Fiddling is lots of fun. Mira is mainly a classical violinist but fiddling is a way to just have fun. You should definitely give it a try. See if there are some old time fiddlers in your area. They're unfailingly encouraging & supportive.

    Best,

    Barbara Phillips (Mira's mom)

  • Wow, Just superb! When did she start!?

  • AWESOME You go girl :)

  • Impressive

  • Great !! with a capital "G"

  • My next contest is this weekend! lol I have my fiddle here in my lap and it won't leave my side. I take it she won this class? Her waltz timing is very good, I loved it all! Great stuff :)

  • You're so kind! (This is Mira's mom.)

Actually, Mira didn't even make it into the final round. Although she sounds great, she doesn't have the exact Texas-style sound that the judges like. Also, Mira is 9 and her age group (Junior Junior) includes 9 to 12 year olds. Not surprisingly, the 12-year-olds are even more accomplished.

Best of luck with your contest! What tunes are you planning to play?

  • can I ask what the make/model of your violin is? I want to buy a new one and am looking around...the sound from yours is beautiful!

  • Thanks for the compliment! The violin is a standard student instrument - a Gliga from Romania, 3/4 size, with Pirastro Tonica strings and a good pernambuco bow.

Good luck with your search. The best thing is to find a good shop or luthier to do business with.

  • Thanks! It's fun but takes a lot of practicing!

  • great playing! must be fun to play like that

  • WoW! My Dream is to take lessons from them! When is your next contest??

  • ahh right Festival Waltz, that's played a lot around here it's very pretty. You're right I am from canada :)I have also played with Ivonne & Janelle. Janelle is from New Brunswick.

  • Dank!

  • greay playing! woodchoopers, bowing the strings and what was the waltz? I've heard it before but I can't remember the name. Here we have to play a waltz, jig and reel in that order :)

  • Hi Fiddlegurl!

Thanks for complements! The Waltz is "Festival Watz" by Kenny Baker.

I'm guessing you're Canadian if you play a waltz, jig, and reel. I learned Festival Waltz from a recording by Canadian fiddler Ivonne Hernandez, based in Vancouver. I heard her compete at the Grand North American contest in AB, last summer. I learned Bowin' the Strings from a recording by Janelle Dupuis, I think from Quebec.

Good luck in your future contests!
