Drag racing is more than weight and power. Look up articles explaining HP vs torque, they'll probably also mention how the amount of revs and gears is important.
You can really tell autocar has it out for the ZR1. Since they made a point to mention power to weight I'll make one too.
Consider this:
The Cobra weighs about 2200lbs and makes 430HP which = 5.11lbs/HP
The ZR1 weighs about 3360lbs and makes 638HP which = 5.27lbs/HP
So we're talking only .16lb difference.
How does a .16lb/HP difference translate to a 2 car length difference at the end? On top of that they have it backward, typically its harder to get traction in a lighter car, not a heavy one.

The difference is that a bugatti for example is a reliable car that took MANY years to develop. It is not just a chassis with a huge engine that might have a title of fastest car in the world (which at this moment it isn't), but is so maintenance dependent one could not even go on a roadtrip with it ( such as topgear UK has done).
Still for me the cobra is a great car... A superformance with a nice Roush engine... I love it!

I'm just wondering if anybody noticed that the AC Mk6 Cobra in this video had a Corvette motor in it? So, what's with all the "Ford vs. Chevy" crap? Anyway, it's all about power to weight ratio, getting power to the ground, and mostly being the best driver. Given this, a Cobra with just about any hot V8 and a good driver is going to kill most anything out there. How's about a race between a vintage racing Cobra and a full race vintage Cheetah? There's your "Ford vs. Chevy" fight.

lets not forget lads, the cobra's top speed is SHITE.. so it has shorter gears, so it WILL have super acceleration... given a mile long stretch, zr1 would have eaten it, but in a quater mile, lightweight, short gear ratio means it takes off like a rocket and keeps taking off to its less than 140mph top speed.

Drag racing is more than weight and power. Look up articles explaining HP vs torque, they'll probably also mention how the amount of revs and gears is important.

You can really tell autocar has it out for the ZR1. Since they made a point to mention power to weight I'll make one too.
Consider this:
The Cobra weighs about 2200lbs and makes 430HP which = 5.11lbs/HP
The ZR1 weighs about 3360lbs and makes 638HP which = 5.27lbs/HP
So we're talking only .16lb difference.
How does a .16lb/HP difference translate to a 2 car length difference at the end? On top of that they have it backward, typically its harder to get traction in a lighter car, not a heavy one.

The difference is that a bugatti for example is a reliable car that took MANY years to develop. It is not just a chassis with a huge engine that might have a title of fastest car in the world (which at this moment it isn't), but is so maintenance dependent one could not even go on a roadtrip with it ( such as topgear UK has done).
Still for me the cobra is a great car... A superformance with a nice Roush engine... I love it!

Has anyone seen an MP4-12C vs a ZR1? I'm guessing no. How about a laptime at the 'Ring? Oh, they crashed it, whoops! Germany provides the arena, ZR1 provides the beat down! And, yes, I know the GT2 RS is about 1 sec faster. That's my other favorite car, it's also over $100K US more expensive. I think the MP4-12C and the ZR1 will be closer than anyone thinks. Imagine what they could do with a $200K Corvette...

It has a certified 10.7 second 1/4 mile and a reported 10.68 sec 1/4 mile. Every car the ZR1 was built to compete with will not pull those numbers. All the Porsches, Ferraris, Lambos etc are still in the 11 sec range despite all the technological advattages they have...
When the C7 Vettes get better transmissions we'll see what happens...

@BanditPerf if you launch hard even with the launch control active the tires will spin not much but a little and they still chirp at gear changes. They were not even pushing the ZR! in the video they are just trying to make the ZR1 look bad. Take a ride in one and you will call this video bullshit as well. I have and the car is violent on take off and pulls hard to over 160 mph then it takes its time getting to 200 mph.

actually...that "expert" driver that knows so much about the ZR1 and how it takes off...probably had never even sat in one before autocar made this video. with that in mind, i turned my 5.1 Onkyo surround sound system up to the max and heard no true 'vette tire squealing. I heard what sounded like my old mazada protege when i would drive it fast and imagine i was in a stingray or a daytona...but that 'vette should not sound like my protege

The fastest ever recorded stock 427 S/C was 4.2 seconds and even that was .3 faster than any other tests were done and believe it was on slicks, trust me I know, If you know different then please tell me as shelby's own supersnake cobra couldn't get anywhere near that and that had over 800 bhp, infact the new CSX4000 series cars with it's new all aluminium 427 is only reportedly 3.5 seconds but that was a customer
