This song is about the homeless, but it is emphasizing on how people become homeless; which is through a number of ways - economic hardship, mental-illness, etc. & when young women allow drug-dealers in their homes and they take over because they paid them, and children are in the house therefore the mother is trying to keep them safe, So they leave and are out on the streets, and go to the shelter, because family members won't take them in, and then all of the drama begin throughout their life.

i love this song and video, but it makes me feel sick to my stomach that, all of us sleep nice and safe and there are so many people that dont. It s about time we all stood up and said to our respective governments HELP these people. how many derelict buildings do we see empty? can they use them to help???? lets do something NOW
I can NEVER make it thru this song without cryin! How can ANY human being not have a heart for the Homeless?Sometimes I cry bcuz I can't afford to help them all.
I think this is a fantastic video I am doing a presentation on the Homelss in Detroit and I am adding this song to my presentation for school. One day I will be able to help the hungry and the homeless that is my ultimate goal
Thank You...I was only 8 when it came out & I remember understanding how Grateful we must always be because there are people out here carrying crosses that are much bigger than ours....One day you'll be able to help ;-)
I'm only 25 but I first heard this song a day or so after my grandmother died in august of '08 and I walked around humming it for days after. I'm just now finding it on July 8,2009 and its her bday...how ironic!!!!!!!!! this is truly good music!!!
This is such a moving song and video. Its makes you think and remember that you are truly blessed. So don't complain about little this that you have no control over.
I was pregnant and homeless during the winter months with a 9 month old daughter when I 1st heard this. Could not stay with family unless they could have the welfare check and foodstamps. Now I thank God for the 2 jobs and 2 businesses to be a blessing to mine and others.
Anyone who is looking for this can contact..STREETCORNER MUSIC, BEVERLY HILLS,MICHIGAN...Its about 12 miles outside of Detroit,They can locate a copy of the album for you and if you want the can convert it to CD, possibly even get Perri Sisters imports for....THESE GUYS ARE AWESOME AT RARE RECORDINGS. . .GOOD LUCK!!!!
I am from Detroit to...where you see homeless people on damn near every corner...if this song/youtube wasn't a tear jerker then i don't know what was... u can't help but feel pain when you hear it.
okay ...i c all my detroiters on here....this was the jam ...good but so sad ...i was like 8 when this came out .. i equateded this song with my greatgrandmothers death even then it was powerful....
OMG! I've been looking for this song since the spring when I got my iPod. At least now I know the title and artist. But I can't find it anywhere. From reading the comments here, I see that it was only aired here in Detroit. That's really a shame. Such a beautiful song. I'll keep looking for an mp3, but it doesn't look like I'll find one.
I love this song so much I've been searching for if for 3yrs i happen to find this great job doing the video I've read many of your blogs. Is there another version of the Perri Sister singing this song
hey thanks for this video. my ma heard this song today on the radio after 15 years and asked me to find the name and artist. after searching we came across your page. she said the video you did was done really well. are you from detroit?
I also am a Detroit native and just randomly thought about how much I LOVED this song when I was a little girl....a shame that no one outside of the D was blessed with these girls amazing vocals! They were amazing!
OMG!! I remember this song!!! never heard this song anywhere but Detroit. I remember when they used to sing back up for Anita Baker back in the 80's i was 13!! OMG
omg this my favorite song and I have been trying to get a copy of it. can anyone please tell me how I can get a copy. my nephew wanted a copy of this but he died before I could find one.
oh yeah i remember this song. i gave my sister a copy of it for her birthday one year because it was one of her favorites songs. i remember there were 2 versions, this one and the acapalla. thanks for having it.
i REMEMBER THIS SONG LIKE IT JUST CAME OUT! I WAS 7 YEARS OLD IN 1988 AND MY MOTHER DIED THAT YEAR AND THIS CAME OUT AND IT'S HOW I FELT! I HAVE NO FAMILY AND IT'S HARD OUT HERE ALONE. THIS IS MY THEME SONG...I HAVEN'T HEARD THIS SONG SINCE 1988! THANK YOU WHO FOUND IT!
I have been reading the comments and I know this song came out in early 1988. I am not quite certain but my understanding was that one or some of the perri were living in a apt and when they paid the land lord the rent he was not giving it to the owner..and so the tenants ending up in the street, that is why they sang it acapella..I think they were really homeless. any feedback?
i love this song so much...i had to get the remix album of this song when it first came out...and the accapella version of this song is the bomb...you truly hear their great voices...i still have the lp...
Okay, my computer is acting crazy - I swear this is my last comment. I keep trying to ask if anyone knows where I can find this song by the Perri Sisters?! sheesh! ;-)
Anyone who is looking for this can contact..STREETCORNER MUSIC, BEVERLY HILLS,MICHIGAN...Its about 12 miles outside of Detroit,They can locate a copy of the album for you and if you want the can convert it to CD, possibly even get Perri Sisters imports for....THESE GUYS ARE AWESOME AT RARE RECORDINGS. . .GOOD LUCK!!!!
naw chilton but im a choreographer that wanted to choreograph this song back in college and have the avenue and funds for it now, unfortunately im in the midwest and cant find a regular copy anywhere, can u help me please
This song really addresses homeless in our backyards ( America), thing we take for granted. People should not look down on these people because until you know where they came from , how will you know where they been. GOD BLESS THE HOMELESS!!!!
I love this song. It addresses a problem that is still prevelant. The Perri sisters have some of the most beautiful voices. Big ups to my girls Shia and Shatonya! Big ups to Athena and Tia. They used to throw down in A2 on this song!
not sure if one of the pGod articpants here created this video, but if so, thank u. i'm in the D, and times are very tough here for a lot of folks...God Bless u all
This is such a moving video. And you couldn't have picked a better song. I too have been looking for material by Perri(here in the U.S.) The only thing that I have found is a couple of websites in the U.K. Rhapsody doesn't even have any Perri to download. It's a shame, because this is a group of extremely talented sisters.
Mzzdivad, I am from Detroit, I live in NYC now. I too have been searching for this song for a very long time now. I remember it being in heavy circulation in the moter city, but I guess not too much elsewhere. This is a great piece of work that you have done. The song has always touched. I can't remember if there was a video or not, but yours has a very strong impact. thanks.
I only heard this song a year or so ago but i listen to it often, although id never really thought about the words much until watching your video. When you put the two together its a powerful combination, thanks for posting im glad ive seen it.

Thank you. You know, I can't remember if there was a video done at the time the song was out. If so, I couldn't find it, so I made this. I think this song deserves to be in heavy rotation again.
I thought this song was nationally recognized. When this came out in Detroit...It was a hit, but now living in Atlanta many people said they had never heard it before.
RECESSION-WORTHY.....How is that we live in one of the richest countries in the world, and people are homeless? The USA is horrible!!!

By the way... follow up this song with "Somebody loves you" by Patti LaBelle... it flows together perfectly and just works.
So sad.
