Bernie makes way too much money ! His little girl just spent over 100 million on a house in California! What the fuck can you want in a house that cost that much! It better come with a F1 team so you can have the tires with glass on them as end tables! What a greedy prick!
Group C regulations were not "banned" per se and definitely not because of dangerousness. Compared to many other series there were very few bad accidents. The 3.5L high-downforce cars that replaced the original Group C rules in 1991-92 were in the end faster (except on long straights).
Maybe the World Championship was cancelled too quickly but these "Bernied did it" are just silly tinfoil hat theories.
I've not spoken to one person either public or motorsport that doesn't remember the Group-C days fondly. In the end there were loads of reasons why it got banned but in my opinion none them were legitimate. I'd love to see the prototype rules opened back up but perhaps with a give quantity of proper control fuel, imagine the leaps forward in automotive technology we could see.
I wonder why Group C was banned...It was an awesome series of racing, with interesting regulations that pushed automotive technology. Why was it banned?
@tifosaurus As allways the FIA ruined it by changing rules, benefitting teams using F1-sourced 3.5 L engines. These engines were unaffordable for privateers, and bigger teams moved on to F1. Guess there was more money for the FIA president at F1?? Truth is, it was the most exciting racing class ever! Shame it had to end. Luckily, Historic Group-C (consumption) gains more and more interrest, so who knows..?
Fuck him. Any racing that stole viewers from a sport he managed to singlehandedly water down from its competitive roots bothered him. When he thinks driver he thinks whoever is most "marketable" for a huge new market. The way he markets the sport is the same way record companies market idols to teenage girls and boys (the most lucrative market segment).
because, just as every exiting race series from that era, it was to dangerous. the FIA killed prototype cars and is killing f1 aswell for a couple of years now.
@tifosaurus Because Group C prototypes were like Group B rally cars: plain suicidal. At the minimal loss of grip, they were taking off like speedboats. And landing was not on water.
The car was hit by another car and crashed into the wall. (why the other car hit him I don't know) If I remember correctly the car destroyed had already been sold for about 1.000.000 dollars just before the race.
Every motorsport classes greatest times we're 80's and/or early 90's

I was at a car show in honour of Stefan Bellof. Saw a few f1 there, was amazed, first time seeing one in person!

Ask Mr. Bernie Ecclestone... he didn't want any rivals for his Formula 1.
