@101jbb actually, there was a city called Carthage, and they had one of the biggest armies in the world at that time. But manly it was full of Spainiards, Phoenicians, and Africans. But it did have a lot of Carthaginians in the army.

Damn it! now i cant play total war anymore!! i had problems sending my units in to sertaint death! now i cant even look at them anymore!! I have never sent in an army when know they will die! not if they would save 1000 of lives maybe... but if im lucky i have the same soliders from the start of my campaigne to the end! never to leave anyone behind! and makes sure that no one dies in vain! And now this movie just Made me wanna save every man i have when playing!! *sigh* great movie btw!!

The Carthaginian army entirely consitsted of carthaginians and THEN they picked up mercaneries along the way. the only reason there where only mercaneries when they actually attacked Rome was because the carthaginians were from africa and werent used to the freezing temprature of the alps and died. But the tougher mercaneries were picked up in france and had probably been to the alps and wore more clothing whereas the carthaginians wore skirts......

@101jbb while true, the Carthaginian army was mostly comprised or mercenaries from Spain & Gaul they still had Elephants and Cavalry and some light infantry who were from Carthage, but they for the most part did not survive the journey to Italy.

The only beef i have against the video is at the next part where they show Early Legionary cohorts. Those didnt show up until the Marian reforms. As the early Republic legion was hastati, principes, and triarii.

They had some, but they were in a minority, thats not to say they were poor troops, but quite a few units in the carthagian army list are mercs:Libyan Spearmen, Iberian Infantry, most of the Generics (Slingers etc) are propably mercs

I was going off the RTW unit list for my thing, although historically speaking you probably are right, although libyan-pheochian troops were quite common, and millitary slavery wasnt uncommon in the past, Mamulaks are famous example (Often having a habbit of taking over the country every few eyptian-arab dynastys)
