For me Satan is symbol and personification of my free will and intelectual unbound. I dont believe in Satan as some person or shape. Its rather an idea that tells me: go your own way, try things, decide wich one of them is good for you. Do not allow others to tell you how you should act and what to think. im not a satanist aswell as i am not a christian.
Keep in mind, this isn't something you just wake up to one day and say "I love this!" Most people who are into Black Metal have had a long road to get there. It's an acquired taste that develops over years.
Only the strongest can reach this level of enlightenment....
i listen to music that you can vibe, jam, dance and/or sing to. that's the whole purpose of music. this is just creepy shit that people do to seek attention. in other words, this isn't music and you know it deep inside of you.

The reason why most of the "great" Black Metal bands of our time loved bands like Bathory, Venom, etc, is because some countries (Eastern Europe) because of the Berlin Wall, didn't get ANY music. So when they finally got something "good" they ate the crap out of it and enjoyed it to the fullest. Hell, Nergal from Behemoth said he remembers getting a copy of an "Deep Purple" album into Poland and being so stoked. These bands don't "suck", it is just that you are used to the newer personification.
Cradle of Filth is not the best anything. Well, maybe the best example of what NOT to do. "Dusk...and Her Embrace" and "Cruelty" were their last great albums. After that, they were "...OK." or "This is pretty good". "Midian" was good. "Damnation and A Day" was alright. However, they didn't perfect anything. Saying CoF is "real" Black Metal is like saying Britney Spears is "metal".

Marduk is an easily likable band for fans of the genre. I listened to Venum way-back-when, and though they are credited with naming this remarkable genre, their sound was not very close to what we now understand as Black Metal. @jhpv89 "The Satanic Bible" by Anton LaVey is really good for this. "Diabolism" is the worship of Satan as a deity in the "Devil" form. This is the "devil-worshipping" sect. However, if a dichotomy was present, and my choice was "Christ" or the "Devil", I would choose the Devil. For atleast the Devil says "Be yourself" and doesn't tell you to murder children in the name of the "one" god. :)

Marduk is an easily likable band for fans of the genre. Venom was just sloppy rock and roll with tighter pants. Bathory doesn't count because no one knows who they are because they made horrible music. Other bands could be noted as having early "elements" of black metal, but it was Cradle of Filth that first perfected it as its own style and genre. And that's a fact.

They are part of the second wave of black metal bands which are responsable for the black metal sound we know today. Marduk is True Black Metal. CoF is the "sub-par" rip off.
