@FXVG the top two lines are right hand, bottom two are left hand. one person played at the same time. it really is not as difficult as it looks. i learned this piece pretty quick and i thought the same thing as you when i first saw it! just look at again. helpful?
@FXVG If you listen really closely you can hear the bass cords being played an instant before jumping to the 8th notes. I'm guessing that's what the bracket is for.
It's delightful to hear a piano roll recorded by a fabulous artist like Rachmaninoff, because the roll plays back his performance exactly as it would have sounded (had he been playing the same kind of instrument that is playing the roll). We get his expression and his pacing, and with a concert-grade piano we get a superior listening experience. (The first time I heard of such a thing was when an album of piano roll recordings by George Gershwin was released. Marvelous!) Thanks for posting it.
anything under P is a auto turn off for me to play the song, I LIKE EM LOUD! however i must say, this song is amazing, and well, i learned it at age 13 :P
@eqbrim Hardly Nazism. The fact that you find it such a challenge to differentiate between your and you're in itself speaks volumes, so to make things easier:
Song:
A short poem or other set of words set to music or meant to be sung.
Music:
The art or science of combining vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion.
The vocal or instrumental sound produced in this way.
So you see the other name you're looking for is "music"...
@eqbrim Oh dear. It's not a song. It's music. If you're hearing voices singing (a pre-requisite for a song) they're the sort that you should seek medical assistance for regardless of how melodic they may seem.
@wierdo1232123 First of all, if you have notices the final bar has FOUR lines. the triple- octave C sharp is played then in the left hand a 2nd inversion c sharp minor chord moves up to a first inversion c#m chord. in the right hand a root c#m chord moves up to a 2nd inversion c#m chord. there is no A major chord unless you read the left hand chord in treble clef.
@wierdo1232123 the final measure has four lines. it is c#m. what you were reading is the top bass clef staff as treble clef, which would indeed make the chord A Major.
@XxPaztheSpazxX haha i hate to be a kill joy but you can actually pronounce that like quad forte. or quadruple F's lol. something i learned from my theory class :D
@jeef290 Since the Romantic period, dynamics like FFFFFF and pppppp exist. While the "names" for them aren't really friendly (Fortissississississimo... :/ ), the dynamics do exist and how loud or soft they are compared to the rest of the piece. For example, if you see a FF and a FFFF, obviously you would play both very loud, but the later will be much louder.
A famous example of a pppppp is the opening basson solo in Tchaikovsky's 6th Symphony.
This rendition (I know it is by Rachmaninoff himself) is a bit too fast for my taste... :P

@oliviafroggie Still wondering about times like 2:46 where it has 6 notes being played on each hand at the beginning of the bar.

@FXVG The C sharp octave is played before the chord....you can hear it if you listen carefully. It's played really quickly, almost like a grace note.

It's the middle 40 seconds that define the piece and make it a work of art.

@wierdo1232123 its c sharp minor.

@KevinBeethoven No. Its A Major. The chord is octave C#'s in the left hand and C#, E, A, C# in the right hand. The final chord is an A Major chord.

Or you could say (like most sane people) quadruple forte. My comp teacher calls its double, triple and quadruple forte respectively.
wierdo1232123 7 months ago
@XxPaztheSpazxX There is technically no such thing as fortissississimo, it only goes to fortississimo or FFF
