Eric Carr was so much more talented than Peter Criss. As a drummer it wasn't even close. Carr was also arguably better suited musically for Kiss than his predecessor. I became a Kiss fan when the original lineup was intact so I understand the sentimental preference for Criss by many fans but as far as talent goes Eric Carr destroys Criss. It's not even a contest. Sadly many Kiss fans never gave him any respect when he was alive (as if working for Simmons wasn't bad enough). Very sad.

@compworld1 I will agree with you in a very basic context. I am certainly a much bigger fan of Carr than I am of Criss, however, their styles were so different that it's difficult to make a side-by-side comparison. Criss was clearly a jazz-based drummer who was a rock n' roll convert. His drumming was quite good, but nowhere near as "in your face" as Carr's. I definitely give him props. When he (Peter) was good, he was GREAT. But Eric will always be my favorite.

Eric Carr, the man who kept KISS on it's feet when Criss left, Frehley drank too much and Simmons and Stanley were musically lost. Carr was a topnotch drummer, in his prime one of the best.

Awesome video! Nonetheless, now I just wish Paul & Gene would have honored him a little more by making a serious effort in their song writing dedicated to this guy. Gene & Paul have been lazy in the studio for years, ever since at least 1980. They had to call on Vinnie Vincent on Revenge instead of doing the work themselves. These drummers now days can't even think about touching Eric Carr's drumming.I like Mike Portnoy,Neil Peart,Robert Sweet,and others,but they don't hold a candle to Eric.Eric's style was "IN YOUR FACE",and these others are mostly flash.I saw him in every tour that KISS did after he became a member of the band,until his death.The last tour that he did was the Hot in the Shade tour.Gigantic Sphinx opened up behind him and out came KISS.Great show,Eric you will always be missed.

I remember the first time I saw this drum solo at my friend's house about 1985 or 1986 and being absolutely amazed. I immidiatly bought myself a VHS copy of this concert and must have watched this solo about a million times. Eric was an awesome drummer and I was lucky to have seen his drum solo live in 1988 during thier Crazy Nights tour in Canada. My friend caught one of his drum sticks at that concert.

When Eric Carr came to KISS, no KISS fan was talking about Peter Criss anymore. Carr was a way better drummer and a great person too. Back then, Carr was one of the very best. I don't think there are a lot better drumsolo's on YouTube from a rock drummer out of 1985 or before.
