  • im buying the Kaoss pad 3 on Amazon but it doesn't tell me if it comes with all the cords to connect all this stuff together :S

  • you r so fucking good at this

  • @DRUMdrumDrumdrums haha you've made my day. thank you! :)

  • dream setup

  • @JTBMX1 I have since sold the XR-20. Sometimes, I regret it.

  • Very nice work here. I've been playing around with a KP3 and am attempting to "marry" it to my 64' Hammond L-103...

Great music you've put together here friend...

All the best from Tulsa :)

  • what gear is he using?

  • @WinterzFreeze I'm using a Korg microKORG synthesizer, a Korg KP3 FX processor \ sampler, and an Akai XR-20 drum machine.

  • i´m new at this, i know how the loop station works but i don know how to record all this

  • See this looks fun, r u getting endless miles out of these machines...? I'm not trying to make money from my music. So as far as investment I keep going back and forth as to what to spend good money on! Hardware or software ya know what I mean?

  • @4kalekale hardware can definitely add up. but it's hard to resist physical toys you can touch.

  • This is good :) But I have a philosophy of which keeps me from conplimenting u without hekping u excel... So, with that being said, if I had to say SOMETHING was wrong, id say that u r early on release when u rnt using the arpegiator... Trying increasing release. Not a big problem :) Anyways, good job; keep it up! :D

  • @DjClyf I appreciate constructive criticism. Thanks for the tip!

  • can you please tell me how you are sequencing the micro korg, is that through the xr20 or the kp3 beacuse im getting an micro korg and i wanna know the simplest way to sequence it with a drum pattern plz help :)

  • @THEDANCINDJTRIVIAL The microkorg (playing arp patterns and melodies etc) and the XR-20 are being sent to the KP3. The KP3 loop records phrases as I play them... and also adds effects.

  • This is sick dood! I'm currently running an AKAI MPK49, Korg KP# & Kaossilator PRO through an M-Aduio interface. My next investment is going to be a MicroKorg. I hope someday to be able to mix a beat half as smooth as what you've got going here, this is some amazing work and you make it look a helluva lot easier than it is. Cheers!

  • @brotherthew101 Nice gear! I bought a Kaossilator Pro this past summer and I just picked up an Akai MPK MIni tonight actually. After something like 7 years, my M-Audio Firewire 410 still runs and sounds like a dream. But I think good music can be made on the simplest of equipment. All you need is a little practice and a lot of passion to make a great beat. Thanks for the kind words! Keep making tunes, dood :)

  • I honestly love all of your videos.. your so talented and you have all the coolest gear lol. Cheers =]

  • @ace101guy Wow! Thanks man :) I really appreciate the kind words. I'm glad you dig it. I hope to get some new stuff up soon. Keep tuned in!

  • You got serious skills bruh. Im thinkin about getting a similar set up soon. Nice beat btw

  • @NathanSynth Small setups are nice. Glad you like the beat. Thanks man!

  • Can i just STRESS how much I LOVE your music and videos? They are just so great, creative and entertaining! I'm trying to get into this kind of synthisizing, but I don't know what to get as a beginner. Need something that doesn't go above 400 dollars since I'm just trying out! What do you reckommend as a starting synth? I was thinking the monotron and kaossilator. If you can help me out that would be awesome! (:

  • @crazycypriot123 The great thing about the monotron and kaossilator is that they are both dirt cheap... esp. if you can find them second-hand. So if you just want something to mess around with to see if you like it, they are good choices. If you're looking for a good starter keyboard synth, I'd say a microKORG. They are relatively cheap used and if you get really into tweaking patches, you can come up with some pretty awesome sounds. Good luck! and thanks for watching :)

  • i have the korg micro x,akai xr20 and the mpc2500 what kind of splitter did use?

  • @bboyfresh44 I used a Belkin Rockstar Headphone Splitter to get multiple inputs into the KP3. Not ideal, but cheap and easy work around.

  • this is a sicccccckkkkkkkk vid man... is it easy to loop like that? how do you set the microkorg and akai both to the kaoss so you can get the loops onto it? is it easy to do? does this all come out of one amp, i have a microkorg and a korg padkontrol, i really want a non midi drumpad though because i really hate setting it up and using my computer, its still good though (: might sell and get an akai xr20 though

  • @mikal20677 It's fairly easy to do live looping on the KP3. The microKORG and the XR-20 are both plugged into a splitter and then that goes into the input on the KP3. You just need to find the right cables. You can also use a mixer. The XR-20 has nice pads and the sounds are fairly modern. If you wanted to keep it all Korg, their line or electribes are also a good choice. Good luck!

  • wow in the very beginning it reminded me of Pink floyd actually. Then after the beat came in it no longer did but still it's having a small hint of Pink Floyd (my opinion)

  • @chrishouchins49 wow Floyd! never heard that comparison before :) thanks man

  • I need a kaoss pad apparently.

  • @hoostavah I love the KP3! it's the heart and mind of my whole setup. I highly recommend it!

  • @KidKulit Do you have it hooked up with midi to the microkorg? and the xr 20?

  • @hoostavah No, none of the gear in this video is hooked up by midi. I'm just doing my best to play all the parts on time by ear.

  • @KidKulit - good job on that song I really liked it alot1 I'm in fact right now waiting for my new Microkorg xl to be shipped to me- I'm highly considering buying an Akai xr-20 as well. Would you recommend getting an xr-20 used for 150.00? IO can and I just might but I want to hear from you being that you own one- just how cool is the xr-20?

  • @chrishouchins49 $150 for a used XR-20 is a pretty good deal. Cheapest I've seen is $200. I think the sound set is good. Fairly simple to use. Good feel on the pads. Runs on batteries is a bonus. For that price, it's hard to beat! Good luck and have fun :)

  • wow this is impressive!!!! u really feel the equipments, nice job! have to watch it again;)

  • @rigo1911 thanks man. glad you like it.

  • at first: awesome vids!!! are u able to sample more than 4 samples with the KP3 ? or do i need another sampling machine to sample more than 4 ??

    cheers

  • @geggiii there are only 4 sample pads yes. BUT you can resample any combination of those pads plus any effects changes you may want to apply down to a single pad if you'd like. glad you like the vids :)

  • so i take it the kaoss pad is looping? cause the xr20 isn't lighting up while the drums are playing...

  • @numbrain2go correct. i played the drum part live. and the KP3 recorded and looped it.

  • dont wanna bother u again :P but if ur ever makin a new video could u take teh time to do a tour of your gear and how your connect it and oyur set up it'd really cool :P

  • sounds like the NOD 3 setting on the Kaoss Pad

  • Check out my vids man. I use the microkorg, xr20 and the kpq! Im looking to get a kp3 though lemme know what you think man!

  • Soo niiice man!! Really enjoy this ! Lots!

  • @zeFatMANxx thanks so much! I'm glad you did :)

  • Ever considered doing videogame music?

  • @AtlasRezzed Yes, I have. It is my hope to do so in the future.

  • @KidKulit thank you :D appreciate it brotha.

  • @melvalicious92 glad you dig it!

  • yo kidkulit, can you hook all this up into ur daw and record ?

  • @melvalicious92 Absolutely! The microKORG + XR-20 are hooked up to the KP3. So just send the outs on the KP3 to your computer's audio in jack (or your audio interface for better sound quality) and make sure your system settings \ program settings are setup correctly. And you're golden!

  • Word man this vid made up my mind im getting a hardware setup for the studio too quality track bro keep it comin :)

  • @rzr3k hardware, software, it's all good! and just up to personal preference. the important thing is that you just make music, whatever way possible... in this day and age, the options are limitless... thanks for the words... I'll try to keep it fresh

  • I have a couple of questions. How did u split all of ur sounds? Like the drums came from there lead melodies came here etc, and is it possible to play the majority of that song or a song in general on only of those 3 pieces?

  • @murcadha The Akai XR-20 is being used to create any drum\percussion sounds. The Korg microKORG is being used to create the arp pattern, the pads, and the lead sounds. The Korg KP3 is recording all the phrases as I am playing them and then looping them back. It's also being used to add effects to all the parts. As for your second question, this entire song is being played on only these 3 pieces of gear... so yes, it's possible!

  • @KidKulit thanks man! I just got the KP3 and I've been looking at the MicroKORG for a while, also is it possible to download sounds from a computer onto the microKORG?

  • @murcadha No. The microKORG does have an audio input, but it's used to further process whatever sound source you have plugged into it, not to record it. The KP3, however, is also a sampler. It will allow you to load samples from your computer using SD cards.

  • @KidKulit Ok thanks youve seriuosly been a really big help

  • @murcadha I'm glad I could help. Good luck!

  • damn thats nice how much 4 every thing

  • @graveplott47 I bought everything secondhand from my local Craigslist. In total, just under $800 (CDN).

  • Bravo Bravo!!

  • @Mrstereoface thank you thank you

  • i just found this video at like 4am so nice to chill out to this

how many samples can the kp3 store at a time?

    great work

  • @Abovedatlive my best work comes out at 4am ;) the amount of samples is relative to how big your memory is. the maximum SD card the KP3 can handle is 2GB.

  • I humm this tune on the way to work its stuck in my head,,I think I listened to this about 6 times in the past two days,

  • Amazing work my friend!

  • @ThatGOONfromLA thanks for the kind words, mate :)

  • hella sick music here, you should make a album, id buy it.

  • @ohyaimcoolest it's in the works! it's been a slow process, but I hope to have something out this year. thanks for the kind words and support.

  • I own a microKorg & KP3 & have been considering the XR-20 (I have the iMS-20 & iElecTribe apps on the iPad, but really want a physical beat station); after viewing this I'm omw to best buy to pick this puppy up...the Akai MPK49 is sweet, so I know XR-20 will be as well, Ty for (unknowingly) assisting me in my decision :) Sweet track btw, very relaxing...

  • @Lykw1dSloth haha awesome! glad I was able to help in some way :) have fun with your new XR-20!

  • I own a microKorg & a KP3 & was thinking about purchasing the XR-20, after wat

  • this is pretty awesome.

  • @mangasprai you are pretty awesome :) thanks!

  • @KidKulit

i bought a xr20 and a korg R3 sometimes ago, and now the xr20.. it is a jewel ahaha veeery funny tu use!

  • @mangasprai fun gear!

  • Is the microkorg or anything else hooked up to a loop pedal?

  • @raushkanaush the microkorg and the XR-20 are connected to the KP3 which is recording my live performances and then looping the parts.

  • Is the microkorg or anything else hooked up to a loop medal?

  • 13000 drop!!!

  • @aglabab I think this is a good comment?! haha

  • nice beat!

  • @D8N4L thanks!

  • Can you run the Microkorg just through the kp3 or do you have to have a computer or something?

  • @AShipofSeamen you can run the microkorg directly through the KP3, no computer required. you just need the proper cables. I use 1/4" (microkorg) to RCA (KP3). good luck!

  • tight as fuck bruh!!!

  • @BURNTOUT91 thanks man

  • Really inspirational sounds thanks for sharing... do you mind if i ask what software you use???? I cant decide between logic, reason and fruity loops...

  • @BleedingChestWounds For this particular video, I'm not using any software. All the music is being created live from the hardware you see and recorded using only photobooth on a MacBook Pro. But when I'm working on sound outside of live performance, Logic is my go to DAW.

  • @BleedingChestWounds are you blind ??

  • Very nice.... Enjoyed this beat and I have listened to this quit a few times....

  • @Oleschool619 thanks man! this is one of my favs :)

  • Swwet. I have an MK and I'm a few bucks shy of getting the XR-20. This is inspiring. Hooray for hardware!

  • @EnigmaticRecluse Hardware Forever!

  • heey!

    rad video.

just wondering if you could tell me what number your using to get the strings sound on the MicroKorg?

    Thanks :)

  • @345307 thanks! it's been awhile since this was recorded, but I believe the patch is A.54

  • I'm pretty to synths, I just got a microkorg for my birthday last august and I was wondering, can you hook the mk up to the kp3 and record loops/samples? Is that what you're doing in this video? Any help would be greatly appreciated

  • @Iulzwhat yes you can do that. you just need the proper cables (1/4" to RCA). good luck!

  • Hi man, nice track!

I got a question.. How do you connect microkorg and xr20 in the same kp3? Do you put xr 20 into input RCA and microkorg in MIC? Thanks, bless

  • @MrMinerulez thanks! I'm using a Belkin Rockstar Multi-Headphone Splitter as a kind of mini-mixer to get the microKORG + XR-20 to the RCA input at the same time. Search youtube for "jetdaisuke - Belkin RockStar Multi Headphone Splitter" video for more info on how this is done.

  • How did you connect the xr20 to the micrKorg?

  • @biigbeet The XR-20 is not connected to the microKORG. Instead, both the XR-20 and the microKORG are connected to the KP3... which is recording and looping from the drum machine and the synth.

  • Great vid! but needs phat bass! Phat n simple!

  • @LatigidGolana I hear that a lot. Bass lines are not my forte :/ But thanks for the tip! I will keep it in mind.

  • i need some of them sounds

  • @moneygreens My suggestion? Borrow\rent an XR-20 and sample all the sounds you want into your gear of choice (ie. your favourite sampler or DAW).

  • can you load sounds into the xr20

  • @moneygreens Unfortunately, no. The XR-20 is not a traditional MPC. You can only use the sounds that are pre-programmed into the machine. But there are quite a few of them to choose from and they can be edited slightly within the unit.

  • Holy santa clause shit, this is awsome!

  • @00RoadWarriors00 BAHAHAHA omg best comment ever! thanks for that, dood :) glad you enjoyed it

  • ok so for this set up you don't have to run through a computer right? i'm new to this, sorry

  • @spenceb25 For this particular set-up, no computer is needed. I only used my Mac to record the video. All the music making magic is happening with the hardware.

  • @KidKulit Thanks! I've been looking for a good way to do it like this with no computer.

  • @spenceb25 It's one of many options. You can make music lots of different ways... just find the way that works best for you and have fun!

  • OMG thats really cool !

  • @krzymusic thanks! glad you dig it :)

  • I want to buy this song as an MP3 for my iPod. lol

  • @Marvin427 wow! thanks man :) I really appreciate that

  • @KidKulit Yeah, it sounds absolutely amazing. I'd love your opinion on something though. I'm in a deathcore band, and now we want to be more post-hardcore sounding. like Attack Attack, Asking Alexandria, Underoath, The Devil Wears Prada, etc. I play guitar, and I was also going to get a Korg MicroKorg, since I already know piano anyways. I also thought about getting a Kaoss Pad, and the KP3 seems amazing, but idk if I can afford it :/ Should I go with the mini, or just wait?

  • @Marvin427 Well, the effects available on the miniKP and the KP3 are identical - they both sound great. The main difference here is that the KP3 is also capable of sampling (either by way of live phrase recording aka looping... or by loading samples from an SD memory card). If you want to be able to sample, I would suggest waiting until you can afford the KP3. If you just want to be able to apply effects to your existing sound, the miniKP is an inexpensive but fantastic choice. Hope that helped!

  • @KidKulit I think I got what you're saying. Do you think one would be easier than the other for use live?

and I also found a Korg KP2 used for about $100. Same price as the Korg Mini.

I don't know too much about it, but I think it might be a good choice. I don't suppose you know anything about the KP2 do you?

  • @Marvin427 In terms of live use, either would do just fine I think. The miniKP can run on batteries alone, where the KP3 needs to be plugged in, so keep that in mind. If you found a KP2 for $100 I'd say get it to start with. That's a great deal and a cheap way to experiment and see if a Kaoss Pad will work for your purposes. The KP2 can also sample, but there are only 2 sample pads and no SD card slot. It's still an excellent choice esp. at that price. Good luck!

  • @KidKulit Thank-you, thank-you! I really appreciate all the info(:

I just ordered my MicroKorg a few minutes ago. It's my christmas present :D

I'll probablly get the KP2 and see how that goes. If I don't like it, the Kaoss pads seem to have a great resale value, so i can always try something else.

    And keep making great videos!

  • @Marvin427 Anytime. Glad to help. Good luck! And thanks again for watching :)

  • Fantastic vid man well done great track , i use the kp2 kp3 and the microkorg at the moment am considering the xr 20 too ,can you loop within the xr 20 and quantise the drum pattern prior to recording onto kp3? ps this is the best vid i have seen yet with people with similar setups hats off , and big ups...Ols

  • @Radiolobe yes you can pre-program quantized drum patterns on the xr-20 prior to recording into the KP3. I haven't gotten that far with the machine yet. I recently acquired an EMX-1 that I've been using primarily for drum patterns now. so there's a possibility I'll be getting rid of the XR-20. Not yet though, too many great sounds!

  • Comment removed

  • Do you have both the xr and the microKORG going through a mixer then to the line in of the kp3 or do you have the microKORG going through the midi out/in ports? Thanks.

  • @apexi1100 the first setup you described. easy peasy!

  • @KidKulit Thanks.

  • dude tell me what u got for equipment there im lookin to do the same with my XR

  • @colbygage69 in this particular video, alongside my XR-20 drum machine, I'm using a microKORG synth and a KP3 sampler\FX processor

  • @PointingFingers210 thanks man

  • how much approx does that all cost?

  • @dannyboyog if I had bought all my gear brand new:

    microKORG = $400, KP3 = $400, XR-20 = $310

plus 13% HST tax equals roughly $1255 (CDN)

however, I bought my gear secondhand...

so it cost me $790 (CDN) total for these 3 units

  • has anywunn bought this beat off you ?

  • @lap246 nope, no one has bought this beat off me... but it's not really for sale either

  • nice work dude.

  • @pisaanu thanks man

  • can u hook up the XR20 to a keyboard controller??

  • @necronominate the XR-20 has a midi in midi out... so I would assume yes

  • @KidKulit thnks I'm knew to the creation!

  • @necronominate no worries. we all gotta start somewhere! good luck :)

  • @KidKulit thank u*

  • do u have another job or music is your job?

  • @rafailakis I have a "9 to 5"... but music is my life. I make time for it whenever I can... even if that means late nights. You gotta follow what you love :)

  • @KidKulit nice man..because i wanted to ask you how did you learn to produce music with these machines?i study economics and i want to produce music for dj sets and stuff and i dont know if i should attend seminars for these machines or to be self-teached..

  • @rafailakis People learn differently. Some people read the manuals. Some people like a more hands-on, trial-and-error approach. Some people learn better when someone is showing them one-on-one or in a small group. I've used all of these methods over the course of many years. I just like learning new things and trying new things. For example, right now I'm teaching myself how to circuit bend old toys. If you really want to learn something, you'll find a way that works for you. Good luck!

  • The thumb to the screen inspired me alone. Great track!

  • @crowejohn20 hahaha "thumbs up"! thanks man :)

  • It;ss awesomee dudee,, i thinkk you shouldd so get someonee on vocalss for your music,, youu could get so bigg with it ;D

    x

  • @eggfriedmelon hehe thanks man

  • U could also loop the output of effects devices like kp3 back by splitting it, if u want to isolate what u do on the kp3 to feed it back through ur setup. Ur mixer(s) will determine ur routing flexibility. And lots of wires.

  • Routing is going to be based on what u have and how u want the sounds manipulated. The minikp and kp3 r ur primary effects so u might want them near the end, while kaosspro or keyboard near beginning. Thats just one simple setup.

  • Pretty cool track. Can I get an mp3 .

  • @youmaiestro hey thanks man... unfortunately, I don't have this song in an MP3 format

  • this is...awesome! can i get an mp3?

  • @Maestroshnitzel hey man thanks! I don't have this in MP3 format... yet... but I can probs get one to you... send me a message and I'll see what I can do :) thanks again!

  • @djmerryqueen awww thanks! glad you enjoyed it

  • Can you sequence a synth via MIDI with the Akai?

    Thanks!

  • @javiceres that's a good question. I'm not sure though. I'm not very good with midi

  • Quick question here, how do you route everything through the kp3? do you have like the xr-20 going to the L-input and the korg to the R? Also when you bought it were the cords included?

  • @rhcplanc In this particular video, I am routing the microkorg and the XR-20 to the KP3 via a Belkin Rockstar headphone splitter. I'm using 1/8 cables (with 1/4 adapters wherever necessary) to use the splitter as makeshift cheap ass mixer. I have since acquired a small behringer mixer as the number of instruments I route to my KP3 has increased. But it's a cheap dirty effective solution if you're on a budget. No cables came with anything. I needed to buy them separately. Hope that info helps!

  • Really nice job dude. Crystal Castle-esque! hehe

  • @patton686 whoa thanks! what a compliment... i love Crystal Castles

  • Damn good job! I use the xr20 and an alesis micron. I also use a launchpad sometimes, but I'm just starting really.

  • @skcgraphic thanks! I am by no means a pro of any sort. I'm really just starting out myself. I wanted a micron for a long time. Now I want a miniAK (seeing as they are pretty much identical)

  • this was GREAT!

  • @dust540 thanks! you are great for saying so ;)

  • im a beginner at all of this, just got my microkorg and am getting my Xr-20 shipped, i was going to buy a mini kp, but after seeing this im wondering if i should just save up for the kp3. what do you suggest getting first(what is more versatile and worth the money)

  • @BRBGOING2MOON I started with a mini KP just to be able to experiment with FX and because I got a decent deal on it secondhand. When I was able to afford one, I upgraded to a KP3 and it is my favourite and most used piece of gear in my studio. Worth every penny :)

  • @KidKulit Thank you so much, i just got a 16 channel mixer(for free woot) can i run the kp3 thru that to my speakers like my xr 20 and microkorg?.

  • @BRBGOING2MOON sure that will work!

  • @KidKulit Thanks for all your help! amazing song too, gives me something to strive for!

  • Great Ideas!! Im So stuck in using my KP3 as an effects unit I completely disregarded its sampling power!! Nice demo! What Video Cam are you using? Zoom Q3?

  • @kerzwhile thanks for the kind words! i actually use the KP3 primarily for sampling and FX is secondary. that's the beauty of the machine -- people use it differently, but all uses are great! I'm only using the iSight from my MacBook Pro... not too shabby ;)
