I am a hunter and an NRA member. The NRA doesn't condone this and they're not supporting this. This is individual people on their property doing these things, we have no control over it even thought it is wrong. Domesticated turkeys are usually processed by decapitation and then put on the market, not shot at several times with their feet straped down.

I was only ever at 2 shoots. The way they are doing it in this case is totally wrong, The ones I was at used steel boxes; jacketed bullets not allowed. In front of the boxes were large logs to stop anyone from using them. The head of the turkey was pulled from a hole in the top so there would be no shots to the body. One shot in the head killed the bird instantly. I got one with a 30.06 and the next year I got one with my .357 mag at 50 yrds (open sites). I think it was $2.50 a shot.

Ok I hunt and generally approve of the shooting of animals for food. I generally dismiss videos from this organization. But here I can only agree with the video. There's something very wrong with this activity. When an animal is stalked and can't see the hunter, and is then shot with a sufficiently powerful caliber, the death of the animal is very quick and suffering is kept to a minimum. But here, having the animals restrained in the presence of gunfire significantly increases their distress.

This is not who I am. I do hunt. However I don't pleasure hunt. What I kill, I eat. I have never left a wounded animal in the field. That is cruel. I don't hunt with people who do that either. People say hunters don't a have a code of ethnics. Well the very select few I hunt with do have those ethnics. We don't take unnecessary shots or leave wounded animals. And we eat what we kill.

As a true hunter myself, this pisses me off beyond realism. This isn't hunting, this is cowardice, laziness, and carelessness. This isn't the "sport" I see as hunting. Real hunting is going and finding them out in the woods, following the "fair chase" rules stated in real hunting.

The NRA does use your membership money to lobby legislators to keep open the loophole which pigeon shooters use. The NRA uses the fear factor stating if canned 'hunts' and gun club activities such as pigeon shoots are outlawed, all hunting will be.
Regardless anyone's opinions on eating or hunting wild turkey, take a moment to think that people who own firearms think that confining a live target and shooting at it is a great idea and good fun. What if that was your cat in a wire cage? Your dog tied to a tree? A person? I don't think I'm exaggerating.
As and NRA member, I'm shocked to learn this behavior goes on. This is not what my membership dues should be going towards. That being said, the NRA, (as paranoid and misguided they may be) fight for my constitutional right to own a firearm. Though i own many different types, i do not hunt. I shoot steel targets at my local gun range. I don't think an animal should be killed just because you simply feel like killing it. If you plan on eating said animal, i feel hunting is perfectly acceptable.

This is unsporting and I'd never get in on it. I am a hunter and we taught you only kill what you plan to eat. The exception being putting something out of misery. Everyone of these shark videos has some jackass wanting to kill these people. When you put animal life above human life you shouldn't have an opinion. If you could threaten these people, maybe you should volunteer to take the place of the animal. Then in a flash, you won't be upset. I believe there are more important issues right now.
Surely the whole point of hunting is the thrill of the chase and the knowledge that you are pitting your wits against a wild animal in its own environment. There is no more skill or craftsmanship in this activity than if they were to use frozen turkeys. These factory reared birds, tethered by the feet and stuffed into an old car tyre have no more chance of escape than a frozen turkey - so why not use frozen turkeys? What possible sense of achievement is there in shooting a tethered bird?

I also am a hunter. but what is beeing shown here is just wrong. but i want to put out there that i do not hunt for sport, but for food for my family, and i only take a shot if i know that it will kill the animal with little pain, and a quick death. if somone is willing to pay money to shoot at a live animal that is stuck to one position. then that someone should not own a gun at all. how would they like it if they were stuck down and shot at, with no fighting chance. its just NOT right.

I'm not an activist by any means..... I own sporting arms but am no member of a group such as the NRA. These Events are insults to true sportsmen who hunt their quarry and kill it for food. These are exactly what you say...nothing more than executions of stunned, severly handicapped birds. This is not who I am. I do hunt. However I don't pleasure hunt. What I kill, I eat. I have never left a wounded animal in the field. That is cruel. I don't hunt with people who do that either. People say hunters don't a have a code of ethnics. Well the very select few I hunt with do have those ethnics. We don't take unnecessary shots or leave wounded animals. And we eat what we kill.

The NRA does use your membership money to lobby legislators to keep open the loophole which pigeon shooters use. The NRA uses the fear factor stating if canned 'hunts' and gun club activities such as pigeon shoots are outlawed, all hunting will be.

As and NRA member, I'm shocked to learn this behavior goes on. This is not what my membership dues should be going towards. That being said, the NRA, (as paranoid and misguided they may be) fight for my constitutional right to own a firearm. Though i own many different types, i do not hunt. I shoot steel targets at my local gun range. I don't think an animal should be killed just because you simply feel like killing it. If you plan on eating said animal, i feel hunting is perfectly acceptable.

This is unsporting and I'd never get in on it. I am a hunter and we taught you only kill what you plan to eat. The exception being putting something out of misery. Everyone of these shark videos has some jackass wanting to kill these people. When you put animal life above human life you shouldn't have an opinion. If you could threaten these people, maybe you should volunteer to take the place of the animal. Then in a flash, you won't be upset. I believe there are more important issues right now.

Surely the whole point of hunting is the thrill of the chase and the knowledge that you are pitting your wits against a wild animal in its own environment. There is no more skill or craftsmanship in this activity than if they were to use frozen turkeys. These factory reared birds, tethered by the feet and stuffed into an old car tyre have no more chance of escape than a frozen turkey - so why not use frozen turkeys? What possible sense of achievement is there in shooting a tethered bird?

I have the same viewpoint - I don't like or agree with hunting, but I wouldn't put the fair chase hunter in the same category as the human horseshit in the video.
