smackdown has been introduced because wcw/ecw ran out of business so wwe had way to many wrestlers, thats when smackdown started, and a few years later they recreated the ecw show,

and by the way, since smackdown was on air, the rock was on it, every wrestler who was in the wwe before 2001 has wrestled first on RAW IS WAR, later after the invasion that became monday night raw & friday night smackdown.
