That is a shift indicator. It can manually be changed at whatever RPM you would like. When Going For Speed. You want to concentrate on the road and not looking at your instrument cluster. :)

i prefer the tail of 2008 model, it complements with the devil look of the front bike. does this bulky come from the muffler or from the cover itself. if it is come from the muffler to create that new scream well i have no option but either to keep my 2008 R6 and wait for this 2009 R1 model to redesign its tail. i find it ugly at the back. well this was just my taste, not sure with the others though

wtf?? the sound has nothing to do with the exhaust, except hide it! if you get akrapovic exhausts you'll hear teh real engine note.. and it's not a gimick it's a diffrent firing order, nothing to do with the exhaust...

waiting for re-designing the exhaust pipe cover. its bulky and dont have the razor look and that complement the front look of the bike. this only keep me thinking whether i coose 2009 or previous model like 2008.

I agree they should do away with that and actually stretch the passenger pylon a little, or maybe just a clean rear with a shorty GP style side pipe like the R6.

Sure, it picks the revs up pretty quick in neutral, but what jap sportsbike doesn't?. I guess I'll have to experience it first hand.

Of course yamaha are going to try and connect this with their motogp machine to sell it, I'm sure it would have cost a few pennies to have Rossi make them look good.

As for the design I think it's a real shocker, the front end is just as poor as the 09 zx10r setup. I'll stick with the Gsxr thanks :-)

It's not a 'big bang' engine, there are similarities but not the same as a moto GP

There's no more "big bang" engines in motogp. Rossi's M1 has the exact 90º configuration for each piston like the new R1 - Crossplane crankshaft. "Big-Bang" was used on 2 stroke bikes with 60º-70º for each piston until 2001/2002. Also, Rossi's bike is inline 4cyl. Ducati and Suzuki are using V-4 engines.

Most bike magazines confuse us all saying that it is the "big-bang", but it isn't.
