  • He needs to dual with Terry Bozzio. That would be beyond mind-blowing!

  • Guess who's parents saved alot of money on drum lessons

  • Talk about the best drummers in the world.... WOW!!! Did you all see when he was 7 yrs old playing on johnny Carson's show. You definitely knew then he would be super awesome.

  • i would eat his doo doo

  • What an amazing performance! Never seen drumming like this before. Can't wait for more!

    EyeCareProject*com

  • I thought Neil Peart was Canadian, not Mexican ;)

  • Who are the rest of the musicians? They are all good!

  • Daron Malakian brought me here

  • My head just exploded from how freaking awesome that was

  • Sick of the endless double bass drummers on you tube

  • another Armenian i am proud of.

  • lars ulrich and neil pert do nothing as complex as this. most of their drums are simple snare, bass and cymbal hits. this guy is just off the fuckin charts. and if you have a tuned musicians ear, you realize he always stays on rhythm...always even when he mixes it up.

  • drum god is all i have to say...

  • he is definitly good but how bout lars ulrich or niel peart or dave grohl and dont forget about the young prodigy igor falecki when he is 30 he is going to be amazing too he is amazing now

  • lars sux. nuff said

  • wheres joey jordison now? haha obviously jacob armen's way better than him..

  • He is the best drummer in the world. Talk whatever you want. I just know this.

  • He's a really good player and his technique is excellent, but I think that the band puts way too much emphasis on the drummer.

  • PLAY SOME DEATH METAL JACOB!

  • I don't quite know what else to say than holy shit this guy is fucking good.

  • jeez. gosh this dude is great. shoot teach me. ill learn something new.

  • he is good but I think many drummers would be able to do it ( even better) if they had this kit.

Most of the hits were random

  • @GerMaggot555 I seriously doubt that. He's been an amazing drummer ever since he was 7 (he's 30 now). The speed and rhythms he has are not simple at all. He is as jazz as it gets.

  • The band sounds like rush. Really good.

  • He's really good but he's no Joey Jordison.

  • @Doctaspawk You're totally right Jacob Armen is so much BETTER

  • @Dualwieldingapples

    Way better.

  • @Doctaspawk

You're right, because Joey Jordison is a sniveling whelp compared to Armen.

  • Puts any drummer I've ever seen to shame...including the likes of Carter Beauford, Lars Ulrich, John Phishman, Neil Purt, Brad Wilks, Shannon Larkin, etc... This guy is in a class above the rest.

  • Jacob belongs to the world!!!!! Best drummer

  • Wow, they show way better music on the music awards in Armenia than they do in America.....

  • Total Bullshit!!!

    technican only, not a Musican!

  • uuuh hes 28 now

  • A lot of haters on here....if you are making negative comments, it is pathetic. He is like 10 years old and you people trash talk??? LOL!!!! Get a life, seriously now....

  • @ScScruzer831 he's 10 in this vid? i dont think so.

  • @ScScruzer831 he is like, in his 30's

  • He didn't even stay on tempo or play the exact same thing from that solo and he sped up really fast and ur just a rich Douche and he sounds "good" cause he's playin on a big huge set

  • great musicianship

  • behold....the arctopus

  • You people try to keep a 3/4 rhythem and at the same time have an irrigular 3/4 rhythem with cowbells and then play solo's over those two as well. My god, all the haters don't play drums OR are totally retarded.

  • hellhammer is better

    TNBM FTW!

  • 88 people are haters.

  • Many will try but will never come close to JACOB ARMEN !! the cowbell at 8:05 along with the feet, INSANITY !!

  • @seroj187

    Easy shit.

  • This guy can really smack the whack!

  • this kid came out of his mothers vagina with a drumstick, beating her with it...

  • to all the HATERS!! I bet it really hurts to see someone this DAMN GOOD!!!! JACOB YOU RULE!!!

  • @sociallyfixed Hey all you Music Lovers! Jacob Armen's New Album is releasing this January with yet to be named Grammy winners and a unique sound that is so compelling you will be asking for more!!! • only a lots a drums

  • Comment removed

  • from someone who has been playing in the public eye since seven years old I expect more dynamics and accuracy by this age.all these years all he's shows is speed, we seen this at 10 years old. from a Progressive point of view, it's crap.

  • As far as technicallity, speed and combining difficult polyrythms this guys is a monster. But as far as musicality is concerned his compositions are too technical for the average ear to appriciate in a musical context.

  • @grooveman69 There r many trained and gifted persons able 2 interpert and appreciate d most abstract performances. His performances r always hi-paced, here he plays similar 2 some1 using musical notes! His 7 year old performance is far more coordinated and complex than this! He has gained speed and retains his originality, even latin drums have more independent limb motion than this! HE'S NOT IMPRESSIVE to most people "i assume"!

  • Amazing. Especially starting from 4:25, the percussion is brilliant.

  • Look for Eloy casagrande on youtube. He is a brazilian drummer.

  • i could play this. this guy isnt even that good.

  • He is good but the bassdrum sounds like shit

  • almost 11 minutes of beating off!!!!!!

  • How old is he here?

  • He's off the charts!!!!

  • sounds like rush a bit?

  • what characterizes as a very innovative drummer is his ability to exude such veriety in his drumming style. It's very complex. I love that. He is sure to be placed as one of the great drummers of his time.

  • Reminds me of Rush, but still amazing drummer/music

  • His playing is very clean and crisp. That's what separates from other great drummers...simply amazing!

  • Both the way he plays and the drums are beautiful! :)

  • WOW!

  • beautiful playing!

  • MentalixLLn, "amazing drummer"? Perhaps you should give a few of the master drummers a listen and then think about what you wrote.

  • @steeldustbronze u mad?

  • @DJBerserk It would seem you just don't know what I'm talking about because you haven't studied a few of the masters: Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckl, Marco Minnemann, Steve Smith, et al. Music may be subjective, but ability is not. Armen isn't in the same universe as the drummers I've mentioned. If you think I'm wrong, mad, crazy, you just don't know any better.

  • its the sound engineers' fault this isnt sounding as good as it should

this guy is a crazy drummer

  • He sounded a lot better when he was 7.

  • @MulleDK13 LOOOL i was about to make the same coment haha

  • So awesome to see he's grown up into a well-rounded progressive metal drummer. The song is very Rush/Blotted Science/Spiral Architect. The drums are amazing as well.

  • I think this guy peaked at 7. Not bad, but he's no Lang, Weckl, Mangini, or Minnemann.

  • He should join System Of A Down!

  • i think his double bass drum needs to be a little more tight.. its irregular.. or maybe is the crap sound

  • @supersaiayin666 Its linear with the jazz or big band genre.

  • Zappa would have hired him if he was alive

  • omg!!! the best drumer i've ever seen

  • That's what it's all about, so kick ass!

  • Can play this'

  • this guy is nuts and proberly the wolrds best technical drummer.

  • RUSH MEETS SYSTEM OF A dOWN,MEETS SLAYER,YES!

  • how old is he now?

  • @WingsofPhantom almost 30

  • I was always curious to see what he was up to these days, I love the direction he's gone in!!!!

  • etsdg

  • This not the best drum solo in musical sense, I do agree (it's even boring, like Thomas Lang solos) But technically - this guy is great - fast and precise. Not to mention good timing.

  • I take you play' 2 I studied this guy for 3 years You need to be able to play 4 different patterns' with each limb Learn before its to late. patience !

  • this guy must practice 12 hours a day man... very technical... but does he have the feel that bohnam did...? oh well i guess we better start practicing alot more..!! this guy is seriuos man...!

  • @ trance01 : wow dude! did you listen 6 minutes to this crap?

  • while this may be seriously good drumming, it just doesnt sound nice

  • The lighting is gonna give some1 a seizure. Mr. Armen is great. he's all growed up. He realy has come a long way since The tonite show.

  • almost happening to me... O_O

  • around the 6 minute mark it's starts to look like the guys possessed.

  • at 1:57 what do you call this guitar bass style.. i know its at kind of "slap bass" and i was really popular ind 80's psychedelic rock music.. pleas send my some name of band with the same style of bass

  • @youngfighter This style reminds me of the band rush look them up

  • YAY, Rush! I love them.

  • Dr. Mr. Niel Pert. I believe you have met your match. Good Luck.

  • lol the camera angle at 6:30 gave me this weird mad scientist vibe... god that whole performance was awesome.

  • sick drummer! guitar sounds like shit though =[

    still cool however

  • are you just gonna post the same comment on EVERY jacob armen vid? Like REALLY man! I've seen you're comment for the 4th time already man! Drop it, is what I'm tryin to say ok man? =)

  • @Headless425 I have said that Armen is the one of the greatest percussionists that God has blessed on this green planet since the "Yo Yo" about 80 times and still counting. Admittingly he is that good. I've been playing for 39 years and didn't think I could learn something new until......Here it comes, Jacob Armen. You have a great day no matter what any body says. God Bless.

  • if you have any doubts about jacob armen's percussion skill, go check out a vid of his toccata on the satoor; it's on this site!

    - as far as this vid, he's rippin out different beats all over the place, and it's honestly incredible..

  • Percussion Mozart!!!

  • maybe I should just quit

  • I was thinking the same thing. I can still play the drums, but not as well as anyone you would see in bands. I just play the same shit over and over and change up beat a little bit, I always was on and off with the drums. I thought his performances as a kid were outstanding aswell, when you saw those videos, you knew this guy was going places.

  • yes he is in the top percentile, but what some people don't see is that people like this can be so much more than a musician, that control can apply to science! some of you know what im saying!!

  • Appart from the annoying light show and bad sound... this is one amazing drummer. A worthy keeper of the flame. Bozzio, Donati....the family is growing.

  • I think the 'bad sound' is just your shitty speakers/bad sound card. The audio sounded perfect through my Plantronics headset. And as for the visual effects bothering your sensitive little eyes, just don't fucking watch then. As a matter of fact, I only looked at the video for a good 30 seconds then decided to read (and post) comments while I listened to the awesome performance.

  • Sorry if I said something to piss you off. Rereading my message, I still think I posted a pretty positive review.

We are talking about the drummer him self and his drumming... right...?!?

Saying that I have shitty speakers and sensitive eyes and that I shouldn't FUCKING watch it... boy, I must have struck a chord there.

Of course I want to watch it!

I want to learn something from the masters...

I'm not even going to lower my self to your level on this one.

    Have a good day.

  • so it was bothering your sensitive eyes too? :P

  • What gave you that idea?

  • I am sick and tired drummers who do drum solos, playing second fiddle to the musicians..jacob is doing a drum show..bravo!!

  • He would be a beast on the Tenors in DCI! All he has to do is learn how to march!

  • Amazing drummer. Horrible sound crew

  • awesome!!!!

  • Oh my goodness. INSANE!!!!

  • very dream theater-like sound

  • dude this guy blows peart out of the water

  • he could blow peart out of the water when he was the age of 7

  • is that YYZ?

  • nope

  • so does he have like a band or something that has albums out that i could obtain in a legal fashion.

  • He played with Zappa plays Zappa a couple of times, according to Wikipedia.

  • he awesome but they did a horrible job micing and setting up the sound on those drums....the sound guy should be taking out back and whipped with guitar strings...

  • I THink he was btr at 7. LOL

  • 3:30 and 5:40 FTW!!!

Nice to see he's stayed pure over the years - since Johnny had him sit in with the band on the Tonight Show.

  • Wow! EPIC!!

  • need... more... DRUUUUUUMS!

  • who is shreddin guitar, looks like buckethead from classic x videos

  • any one know the guitarist?

  • LOL! Kid makes me proud of being armenian! I was suprised System of a down was Armenians, and NOW! .. What the fuck.. Is Jacob Armen Armenian?

  • lol@ masterofmetal..you are a bafoon he is 28 now moron. he was 10 in 91 tool. this video is from 2007 armenian music awards, he is 26 here. get it right idiot

  • Comment removed

  • Ur gay!!!!! Wat kind of name is ownager23!! That's not even close to being original!!!

  • at least he's got a sound I thinks he's very original , he's worked very hard kind of a progressive style you can tell he loves what he's doing

  • actually he seems to be 28 years old. look at his myspace-page:

    "Age 7 - Live 1988 Performance"

  • rock... latin... jazz... wow.

  • MP still is better IMO. Prodigies don't count, you don't have a choice whether you are born as a prodigy or not. However, you have a choice to pick up and learn and instrument.

He may be better than MP, but Mike Portnoy's the best "normal" drummer.

  • MIke portnoy is teh 2nd best drummer of all time neil peart is the best wh ybecause those guysa actully gitot somehwere in their carrers not layingon armeina award shows look at niel he is teh best cuz the best techniclly gifted drummer ever he comes fro ma hugly succcesfu lband rush and he's canadian a country that has few bands who make it huga only 4 come to mind rush teh guess who billy talent and alixsonfire mp is the 2nd best beacuse he is teh 2nd best technical gifted drummer but he drums

  • That, made no sense, at all.

  • I agree with you but jesus christ, learn to type.

  • i know i was tyed that in like a 30 seconds n otime to check if i was spelling anything right

  • Success means nothing. The drummers you mention are still nothing compared to vinny colliuota and dave weckl. Alexisonfire, what a joke lol.

  • actully it does after all what is teh differnec between genius and insanity isn't it just sucess i agree with dave weckl he's a great drummer but i m talkin gabout well known drummers drummers who will be know 50 years from now not this guy

  • Sadly i don't think many of todays drummers will be known in 50 years by anyone except drummers. We're being drowned in double-kick and blast-beats. The difference between genius and insanity is in no way success, i would not call eminem or chris brown geniuses or insanely competent musicians but they are still succesful

  • @pownjhell but what i mean by that to muscians who are bordering on insanity with there drum beats i.e neil peart mike portnoy with they're skill emeinem is sucessful but not a good muscian some one who is good muscian is someone who sounds good people want to listen for they're music not someone who is overproduced and can't fucking play an instrument

  • I half agree with you, but don't disregard ALL double kick. In moderation, I would say that it helps a song get more power, but I dispise full out blast beats.

Just an opinion from a (fellow?) drummer :)

  • I have no problem with double kick when it's used intelligently. Steve Gadd and Vinnie Colauita are players who incorporate the perfect amount of double kick.

I'm not a drummer :P i just have a high appreciation for the art of drumming

  • You hit the nail on the head, and I'm glad to hear that you appreciate us.

  • That is a cop-out.

  • Nobody is born a prodigy.

  • reminds me of dillenger escape plan

  • deff reminds me of dream theater

  • wunderkind :)

  • how old was he when he did this?
