i think you take a few of these bond-isms a little too literally. of course she can read.... of course it was meant to be ironic when bond says perfect when henderson gives him a stirred vodka martini, etc. otherwise great vids.
In a film like Moonraker, it's difficult to know where to even begin finding things that don't make sense. But the main point that's always bothered me is the opening scene where the Monnraker shuttle is stolen. Why in hell would they be transporting a fully fueled shuttle on top of an airplane???? Aside from the obvious danger and huge expense, the shuttle would be incredibly heavy; probably so heavy that it would be impossible for the plane to support the shuttle all, much less take off.
You have a point but it's not the point you thought you had! NASA, amazingly, used to transport their shuttles Columbia/Enterprise on 747s. Google SPACE SHUTTLES 747 for pictures. The point that's odd about this scene is why is it fuelled??! That would add to the weight.
You can't think this line is serious. This is CLEARLY a wisecrack on her part excusing her "bad" behavior on a "first date" with bond. It's not a weird line, it's a joke!
I think it was meant to be a joke she was trying to be sexy I don't think the character really didn't know how to read lol. I would love to have seen what else what else on that list she didn't follow lol.
I've thought hard about this. I thought it might have worked if she'd said "I never learnt to read French." but she has a French accent so that wouldn't work, and she can obviously speak English, so reading that shouldn't be a problem. It's just a weird line. A mystery, even!
Its funny you brought this up they talk about this in the Moonraker Directors commentary and that she was just trying to be sexy not that she needed it in my opinion at least. Dang that nightgown did enough for me lol.
It's her excuse for, to put it lightly, going against the list and fucking Bond.

That scene would be so much better if Bond had stopped with the seduction and challenged her on that point. Ideally with a raised eyebrow.
