  • The narrator for the "Better Housing News Flashes No. 3" (1935) is Harry Von Zell, well-known radio (and later TV) announcer, best known for his appearances on "THE GEORGE BURNS AND GRACIE ALLEN SHOW" in the 1950s. The last excerpt is from a 1962 Chevrolet promotional film, narrated by Marvin Miller- another veteran radio/TV/movie trailer announcer, best known for playing "Michael Anthony" on "THE MILLIONAIRE" (1955-'60).

  • Intriguing compilation of technology improving the lives of everyday Americans. They didn't foresee that all those highways, cars, and suburban developments destroying the family instead of enhancing it. How naive and shortsighted post-war America was!

  • The danger of asbestos known in the UK since 1931, particularly in the building industry, was repressed in the U. S. during the post war building boom. Asbestosis, a type of mesothelioma, is deadly & "the use of asbestos was phased out in 1989 and banned entirely in Dec 2003" (Wiki). Levitt towns were a good idea for the housing industry but a very bad idea for consumers: typical capitalistic rapacity to the detriment of the public. These "public" plans reinforced & boosted our consumer society.

  • @BrotherWoody1 Dangers of asbestos aside (which one of your ilk uses as merely a tactic anyway), your comment reflects a "typical" communistic regurgitation, to the detriment of free enterprise.

  • @gymnastix Ilk? I'm not a member of any Scot 'ilk" or political ilk either. I'm a Libertarian steadfast against collectivism. I support Ron Paul for potus. Communist regurgitation? Asbestos is deadly, regardless of its impact on "free enterprise" & it's deservedly banned in construction here in the U. S.

  • @BrotherWoody1 You don't have to lecture me about asbestos, My father died as a result of complications stemming from a combination of asbestosis and emphysema. He had worked in electrical construction most of his working life.

  • @BrotherWoody1 Furthermore, just about any public school in the era I attended was constructed with asbestos, and which I and my classmates were exposed to roughly six hours daily, 180 days per year, for 13 years.

That may even be true of yourself, depending upon your age and when you attended school. After a certain date, asbestos was required to be removed. Without some government, Mr. Libertarian, that legislation would never have been enacted.

  • @gymnastix I'm over 65 & a Nam vet. The GOP is bereft of leadership & you're still talking Romney, Santorum & Gingrich? Do you work for the military/industrial, banking/congressional complex? Has the empire so well lined your pockets that you've become accustomed to your own sense of normalcy? As W & O were stomping out your rights, did you bargain that your security could be bought by their forfeiture? What are you conserving? Your nonage ideals that will never be realized? WAKE UP.

  • @BrotherWoody1 Ron Paul=Lyndon LaRouche, their supporters zanies all, as far as I'm concerned.

Sometimes. one may be so far right that one may as well be far left.

Most of Ron Paul's support comes from twenty-somethings, because of his advocacy for legalizing drugs. It's a selfish, narcissistic constituency of potheads.

  • @BrotherWoody1 While I also have some libertarian (small "L") inclinations, I draw the line at allowing the United States to become militarily castrated. Paul's fiscal policies would render the United States defenseless. That is his greatest danger.

  • @BrotherWoody1 And although the media twisted his remarks out of context (big surprise there), Newt Gingrich is correct the U.S, should not abandon its space program, which is linked to defense, and has had, historically, residual benefits in science & technology, in the civilian and medical spheres.

  • @BrotherWoody1 In fact, American students are science and math-deficient. We need to get back our edge in those areas. It's a disgrace American patients should be subservient to Third World physicians. Nationalist--you bet I am, and proud of it!

  • @BrotherWoody1 If no other conservative enters the presidential race before the November election, I hope Paul does run as a third-party candidate, because many of his votes will not be from conservatives or Republicans, but from from disaffected B.O. (that stench in the White House) supporters, thus giving the election to Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, or Rick Santorum (assuming some eleventh hour nominee doesn't obtain the Republican Party nomination)..

  • @BrotherWoody1 So much the better if Ralph Nader's magnificent ego also pushes him to run for president again, even more votes to siphon away from B.O.

  • @BrotherWoody1 Intelligent persons know the U.K. and Western Europe surrendered their souls to left-wing dogma in as gullible a fashion as they did to the National Socialists pre-World War II, even despite Sir Winston's and Lady Thatcher's warnings. This is one reason Europe is on the verge of economic collapse today.

A poor man never got a good job from another poor man, and governments don't generate real profits.

  • @gymnastix The West has now reached the point where its several govts. are modeled on "inverted totalitarianism" (Anthony Wilden, Brit.). Had Winnie not started WWII after Poland, the Nazi's & the Commie's would have probably wiped each other out. We had to fight Japan & we had to fight to save the Brits' can. We, along w/ the Brits since WWII, have consistently supported right wing dictatorships, fascists & above all, Empire. You seem intelligent but commonly educated by the MSM.

  • Time to bring back the Levitt Town homes! As long as it is NOT built in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, where fine! Really?
