The discussion remy started reminded me of the movie "THE WALL" pink floyd.
But yeah I like these guys and how their fairly refined with their open minded views and points, to bad I didn't have this sorta influence in my earlier youth, but I managed to step up on my own eventually at least.
i must agree b/c people choose to interpret religion in a kinda of fanatic way that leads people judge others for what they believe rather then who they are as people.
The fact is mainstream religions are subject to interpretation, and that paired with the fact that these people think they have all the answers to life is not a good combination. Relgions such as Islam/Christianity teach against being open minded. And so in my opinion you cant be true to everything the bible or the qur'an says and also be a good person.
I agree that its ultimately down to being tolerant of one anothers beliefs, however religions such as Islam specifically teach the opposite of this, and the people who are involved with these religions who are tolerant, are going against or overlooking certain areas of the religion to do so.
I think there are a couple of problems with this view... "It doesn't matter what other people believe." in the context of religion. You find in most religions once you get involved in it enough, it actually calls you to do things.
In Christianity, I believe (arguably,) that God calls you to spread the good news (try to convince people that Jesus was a big deal).
In Islam, I believe (arguably), that you are supposed to behead anyone who converts from Islam or who tries to convert anyone.
Difference between the two is that Christianity does not call to violence, most of the time (arguably), its preventing by promoting peace
On the other hand islam doesnt prmotoe beheading people who convert away from it, most of it is just mis-interprates it for punishment. Which you find most fanatics are doing.
there's a difference in disrespecting and debating, ain't there? the ipower crew is just pointing out their own views more clearly after someones response. when a debate flourishes at it's purest state, it's common for either one of the debaters or even both (/all) to grab more knowledge from each others to widen their own minds.
Religion is relative to one's society, also morals.
you don't get morals from religion nor science. you get them from community you live in, from the people around you that mold your ideas as you grow up. that creates your moral values.
as for me, i think for myself.
i prefer to stay outside of the "religious bubbles" because i live happier that way
Science is not a source of morals of course, but is religion? No! People of the Christian faith don't take all the crazy stuff in the Bible at face value, but cherry pick stuff in there that already appeals to them and claims they found their morals in the Bible. The truth is that morality is innate in us (except sociopaths and other deviant people) and is something that ultimately is intuitive. You don't need to believe in the supernatural to be a good person.

If you can't respect other opinions, how can you demand respect for you own.

If someone truly and genuinely needs some old book to tell them not to be murderers or rapists, then maybe that person shouldn't live.
