The sheer honor, courage, and unbelievable loyalty that the real soldiers from this war endured while standing firm for the roof of freedom they protected which we call home today will never be understood by our generation or any other from this day forward. I weep for the naive nature that surrounds our future children.....They'll go their whole lives without ever knowing the love one man can have for another whom they share a battlefield with. This is what America is really all about
A great scene in a great movie....only exceeded by the scene of Mrs. Ryan collapsing on the porch of her rural home as the clergy and military approach the house to inform her another of her sons has died in the war.
What spoiled this whole movie was the use of the American flag....typical American sickening sentimentality. I know it makes you yanks proud....but it makes me want to throw up. Thousands of Brits and Canadians died in the normandy invasion...do they get a mention in any US film or even documentary about D-day...NO!!!...........the Brits faced crack SS Panzer Divisions...whilst Americans faced 2nd line German units as Hitler rated the British soldiers much more highly than Americans!!!!
@Aussiephil99 Sorry but the American Flag is Beautiful- even as an abstract piece of art. And What the British did and Churchill did to defeat the Nazis is INCREDIBLE. Without witch we'd all be speaking German today. But please...we made Hollywood...Movies...& and we came across the F***ing Atlantic Ocean to kick Hitlers'a & Japans ass. So simmer down you little socialist Canadian. Go get yourself a state paid chill pill. Read more history & make you're own movies.
I have seen this movie a long time ago, and soon will watch it again but not some poor dvd rip off download is it in bluray? This is private ryan who they had to search for, am i right?
Can NEVER, EVER watch this scene without crying... so beautiful. Love this movie...and as an acquaintance of mine has said, "Every American should watch that film."
War = lots of money for rich people. People STILL don't get it.... It's the whole damn monetary system. Too bad the majority of you are too brainwashed to let go of it.
did you ever think , that private ryan is a metaphor for all of us citizens that didn't have to serve and that we owe our veterans that sacrificed there tomorrow's a well lived life and an honorable one?
It gets me every time when i see the opening and the end of this movie. The most terrible thing at war is that you can do nothing against it. You can just fight for your life.
True war heroes do not praise themselves with badges and medals.
True war heroes lie in the cementary, because they sacrificed their life to protect what they love and what they stand for.
Don´t bless any country. Bless the people who sacrificed themselves, no matter what nation they belong to. Bless their families and the people who can live in a free world thanks to them.
By the way, I am German and this scene still gives me goosebumps.
@DDDxxxDDDxxxDDD God Bless America. You should get goosebumps at this scene. The world will never forget all of the evils that your country committed. Fortunately, the Germans were stopped.
@karate1243 It's not today's Germans' fault, they have to live everyday with that huge embarassment and accusation over them for the rest of their lives.
@karate1243 what an ignorant comment. It's so ironic that in their defeat, the Germans learned more about the follies of war than we did. In victory we, the allied nations, have become arrogant and boastful. We thump our chests in macho bravado, not affected by the losses we sustained or the ones we inflicted. We talk about war as if it's some sort of game or contest to be won, ignorant of the fact that nobody can truly be the winner in a conflict that claimed the lives of millions.
@severedtesticles This is the best opinionated comment relating to WWII I've read on YouTube so far, seriously. Most comments are just praising the soldiers (allied soldiers mainly) who fought in the war or going on about who contributed the most to the defeat of the axis or bitching about nationalities.
@severedtesticles....best goddamned statement I've read here on boobtube, in a good while! Cheers to you for this truth Mr. Testicles! To the trolls who're posting stupid adverse and retarded comments, while hiding in front of their computer or laptop screens, because their garbage lives are only capable of producing garbage thoughts, I say, deep inside the rotted pits of whom you are, you surely die a coward's death a thousand times a day because your existence is just that meaningless.
@karate1243 every country has parts of their history they would rather what to forget...America enslaved a whole race of people for hundreds of years but yet you single out German history because it makes you feel superior...
@DDDxxxDDDxxxDDD du lässt mich hoffen dass es auch in unserem volk noch anständige Leute gibt, die nicht vergessen haben was Soldaten eigentlich für Menschen sind :)
@DDDxxxDDDxxxDDD Not only soldiers who sacrified their lives are war heroes! There are veterans who have seen the horror of D-day, Africa or Stalingrad. And those who fought for what they loved and survived are also war heroes. Because if they weren't there, we wouldn't be free.
@DDDxxxDDDxxxDDD sorry but your "war heroes" didnt sacrify their lives for your country, but for a sick person called Hitler. By the way, I am turk and this scene gives me goosebumps
@integral844 Way to completely miss his point you nationalistic fool. He is saying that the sacrifice the lowly man makes on the battlefied transcends his nation.
The turks, by the way, are the remnants of an old enemy of western civilization. Way to bring ruin to constantinople, the last great city of the Roman Empire, you ottoman dog. When he says "I hope that at least in your eyes, I have earned what all of you have done for me"...I truly believe that should be OUR wishes and respects to the men and women of the US military, past and present. That we EARN what they have done for us. Godbless all of you who have served or are serving...
Be assured the decision wasnt taken lightly but it did stop the war and honestly how can you say bombing the city of a country notorious for killing civilians is wrong, also the bomb was new and needed to be tested and who better to use it on than the country that sneak attacked you and treated your POW's so badly?
@oscie1 I do not agree that the decision to use the bombs was right, but when fighting wars, when are any decisions truly right? God bless all 63 million people who lost their lives in that dreadful conflict.
@oscie1 The US waited a little over 2 years before joining world war 2. We were attacked by a nation that had yet to formally declare war on us. When Truman made the decision to use the atom bombs and realized that if he didnt, the allies were probably going to lose over 1 million brave soldiers.

YES! but we chose the way that would forever change us. i respect the men that gave their lives and dedication to helping end these wars. may i and all the children of our next generations, live knowing that they would not be here woth out all that dedication. Thank you brave soldiers. may you rest in peace. (God bless you,AMEN)

Always gets me when I see this scene at the end of this movie. God Bless the United States military. And every other soldier who helped to end the Nazi Reich.
oh my good ive seen this movie a million times but when he saluted that cross four tears came to my eyes thats just to damn powerful never forget the heros of ww2 you shall not be forgotten
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Good to see those old racist people dying off these days. They were part of one of the worst eras in us history, racist , sexist ignorant white men. They are not innocent like portrayed in this movie.
@stickedU fuk u man whos racist now its the black guy its why double standerds exist because most white people dont have any guts anymore they wanna be politicly correct so they let black people trash talk them oh yeah and they were fighting nazis dumbass incase you didnt know those guys are racist not him besides do black kids get beat up in schools anymore well yes they do bi other black kids! kuz they said something about they mama o yeah who freed the slave white man who got civil rights wm!
@stickedU IG-NOR-ANT!!! Ever heard of the Tuskegee Airmen, moron??? Didn't think so!!! Why don't you do your homework before you speak? You make yourself sound foolish!
This made me really sad - two of my grandparents have died in recent years, one's getting increasingly ill and other's starting to slow down and give in to old age... it's like the generation's coming to the end of an era.
this movie was so powerful in fact when it was released they had to set up a hotline for people to call because this movie is so pwerful i finally can see why.
To all Vets from the Revolutionary war until now....Your sacrifice will never go unnoticed, your seflessness will always be remembered. Rest Easy until the day that you can look into the face of God....
Saving Private Ryan is the best war film ever made. As an european citizen I only can say that we will never forget the great effort made by those young and brave american soldiers to free Europe from the nazism. Many of them rest forever in our land, far away from the US. God bless them and their families.

I got so teary eyed and it gave me a lump in my throat. First movie to be able to do that to a 6'4 240 pound guy like me.God Bless The United States Of America. and fuck the Phelps family.
truly great scene, too bad that people still today think that wars were and currently are fought for 'freedom', and even worse we as a race keep on killing each other
We finished watching this movie in class today, I didn't cry, but I understood why some of my classmates did cry,I guess it wasn't as touching as Schindler's list, still I loved this movie.
wow the ending is so powerful i cried when i saw it. i think people forget how many men and women have died for our country and we take that for granted
Is anybody else perturbed that this video ENDS before the most powerful part of the scene?
soisunhomme, did you have something better to do besides upload the scene intact? Whatta tease. Whatta disappointment. I wish I had four hands so I could give this vide more "thumbs down".
No matter how many times I see this scene it still brings tears to my eyes. My father was in WWII and my uncle who I am named after fought at Normandy on Dday. These men who fought in this war grew up in and survived the great depression and then defeated our enemies in this great war, then as if that was not enough then went on to lead our country through the most prosperous time in its history. Till the day they bury me, I will always appreciate the sacrifice they made.
With out this scene film would be nonsense. This is my favorite part so, when it is said that we all must do the effort to be a good man and to life a good live, honouring they who didn't have a chance , but sacrifice them selfs to bring it to other ones . Peace
The HEROES are every cross in that cemetary, every life that was lost and every life that continues to be lost til this day just so we can sleep at night and have our freedom. But the problem is we tend not to even think about those heroes, instead we worry about dumb pointless crap. Without those souls there'd be no United States of America, those souls ARE the United States America and without them we're nothing. God Bless America and the men and women who protect it. Happy Memorial Day.
@AFrattz1 Nice speech but NO, no one has ever attacked America since you gained your independance apart from Japan and you nuked them! the soldiers in this film saved the French , and i thank them for that because i would not be here in france enjoying my croissants in the morning along with my good wine in the afternoon. All the wars America has fought in were to profit greedy war mongerors.Get over yourself, America doesnt even need soldiers, it has protected by 2 oceans and lots of nukes.
@oscie1 dude it's our country not your's, and you see boats have the ability to travel over water. Were not alloud to just go dropping nukes thats fucking insanity. This is real life not fucking Call of Duty man.
@AFrattz1 Freedom? Lol... In this so called country of freedom, you can't control what you put in your body, the government have to regulate that. Won't be long before they'll be regulating your whole life.
@noobhealz402 cool tinfoil hat IT'S A CONSPIRACY theory. Grow your own damn food and drink from a nearby lake/river if you think everyone's out to get you.
if this scene doesn't make a grown man cry, then you are not human or have no heart. the US is a melting pot of mostly european and american idian bloodlines and other races. people are the same all over the world. the governments and politicians are the ones that are different. why? because they know most people are too stupid and dumb to think for themselves, they are right. i am ex. US navy (i failed buds training) and i can report in 3 days if needed, along with 30 million other vets.
This is for my grandpa..He has lost his memory of everything now and is dying..He fought in the pacific and earned a silver star for carrying a guy up a hill under Japanese fire..Thank you sir
@krisakias Thanks man..It will be a sad day when he dies..His memory is shot but he still remembers the war god that man saw so many horrible things but one good thing he met his wife(my grandma) in the hospital after he lost his arm
@50033836 the US lost 500 thousand soldiers, the soviets lost 11 million soldiers and 7 million civilians and were fighting in Europe for 3 years longer than the united states.. id think they're the fitting model
EVERY WAR IS A CIVIL WAR because all men are brothers!
I salute to you Yugoslav partisans! I salute to you American solders! I salute to you Red Army! I salute to you French solders! I salute to you English solders ! I salute to you to you all who fought aginst the nazis and made this world a better place to live ! And at last i salute to you grandfather may your soul rest in peace...
Really makes you be thankful and appreciate life, and our soldiers fighting for all of us against tyranny and injustice. Makes you wonder how many veterans, of any war, went through an experience similar to this. "Earn This."
@ ilovemymilitary, thanks mate nice thing to say shame there aren't enough people with ur views! I'm off on tour in 3 weeks with 43 commando, I will take ur comments with me!! Take care fella!!
Feel the love! this is incredible. Youre all incredible souls dont ever forget that... no matter who you are, or where u have been, you are absolutely beautiful... this scene reminds me of that truth
A soldier died in the field of battle and came up to the gates of heaven, where he met God. He said to God, "Lord, I know I did many things I ain't proud of, and many more that you won't approve of, so if you send me to hell, I won't argue." God stood there for a moment, and then turned to the gatekeeper of heaven. "Let him in", he said? The gatekeeper, confused, asked why. God looked down at the soldier and said, "This man just came from hell."

Good to see those old racist people dying off these days. They were part of one of the worst eras in us history, racist , sexist ignorant white men. They are not innocent like portrayed in this movie.

This made me really sad - two of my grandparents have died in recent years, one's getting increasingly ill and other's starting to slow down and give in to old age... it's like the generation's coming to the end of an era.

Saving Private Ryan is the best war film ever made. As an european citizen I only can say that we will never forget the great effort made by those young and brave american soldiers to free Europe from the nazism. Many of them rest forever in our land, far away from the US. God bless them and their families.

Noren1260 7 months ago 2
No matter how many times I see this scene it still brings tears to my eyes. My father was in WWII and my uncle who I am named after fought at Normandy on Dday. These men who fought in this war grew up in and survived the great depression and then defeated our enemies in this great war, then as if that was not enough then went on to lead our country through the most prosperous time in its history. Till the day they bury me, I will always appreciate the sacrifice they made.
1redsoxfan1963 7 months ago

All the wars America has fought in were to profit greedy war mongerors.Get over yourself, America doesnt even need soldiers, it has protected by 2 oceans and lots of nukes.

if this scene doesn't make a grown man cry, then you are not human or have no heart. the US is a melting pot of mostly european and american idian bloodlines and other races. people are the same all over the world. the governments and politicians are the ones that are different. why? because they know most people are too stupid and dumb to think for themselves, they are right. i am ex. US navy (i failed buds training) and i can report in 3 days if needed, along with 30 million other vets.
