I wonder what John would say about the disaster we had in our Gulf of Mexico with the oil company this summer. It will be years before we know just how bad the damage will be. Our people on the west coast of Florida all the way to Louisiana lost so much this summer. People were afraid to come down afraid of the oil on the beaches. It is the Exon Valdez all over again. John, you are missed in so many ways.
I love this song- my favorite of his, off my 'Portrait' double cd. I prefer the studio version. This song really typifies his message of cherishing nature and living life to its fullest through yet another rich and haunting melody.
You did something this morning that about 10,000 people on earth did not do - you work up alive!! Great - maybe not - but better than the alternative, my friend!! Never admit that you've lost - and you'll never lose!!
In your case; Thankyou Little goddess. As for the others and theuir establishment comments; you'll never be free til you no longer fear death. A shaman knows this lack of fear, and wanders the Land of the Dead as commonly as you walk the streets of your cities. So take a walk into the mysteries.
The way my life has gone, the idea of feeding a Kodiak with my live carcass just don't sound so bad these days.... I'm 55, worked for nothing all my life, not even a hope of a hoome or land to call my own; now sit in a wheelchair most of my day in a place I'd rather not be, and no chance of going home where I do belong. So My last wish in life is to feed a really big hungry bear, like real men would!!!
Wolfe- here on YT there is a version of him doing it on the Wildlife Concert- just go under "Wild Montana Sky" and "John Denver" and it will come up. (Of course that is the one of JD in the white shirt and vest concert.)
As someone who's spent time in Alaska, I think JD has captured the majesty of that land beautifully in this song. He was so blessed with that gift, wasn't he? I can't be up there in the wild country without this song coming to mind again and again. Nice to see this video.
HOW would he feel now, with this planet such a mess, all the construction and drilling and tree cutting in Alaska ALONE, all the habitats destroyed, wildlife so badly endangered, all for money????
Assuming his voice would still have impact after his personal trials, he'd be an incredibly vocal opponent, I'm sure. I've often wondered what he'd've said about 9/11.
I often think of what he's have to say about this mess in Washington and Iraq, all the scandals, lies, crooks and plain dirty politics!! He'd have been the first to perform for the benefit of those families so affected by 911, to help them with needed funds, etc. JD disliked politicians greatly BUT was 100% an American, you could tell by what he said and did, and all the concerts he did in Washington and NYC and for the vets coming home from Desert Storm.
I beleave that he would be fighting for the those what cannot speak, the mountains, the trees I beleave that he would be strongly opposing any distruction to the the mountains.
that's one reason he did so many documentaries about Alaska, the Eagles and hawks in Idaho, the bighorn sheep ,just to name a few..to teach the people of this planet about so many things..and working hard for peace, hating the mess from the Exxon oil spill in Prince William sound (did the video to show some of the consequences of it)..he spoke for Mother Earth and everyone on it shouting"WAKE UP PEOPLE!!! PROTECT IT NOW!!!"
I really can't explain it.John Denver makes me happy.I'm having a horrible day today(horrible year, actually)& he really has the capacity to make me feel less awful,to enjoy the simple things.
God Bless You,John,for your sweet,gentle songs.They mean a lot.RIP.
He went to Alaska so much, said it was the most beautiful place he had ever been other than the Rockies, and that it truly gave him peace to go there.
I also wish it would not cut off before the song ended- not being critical of the person who put this up- just that I start to get into the second refrain and it cuts off- ah! I bet the solo at the beginning is real pretty.
So wise words and such a beautiful and meaningful song. This is John Denver's legacy. :)

We can all still learn many lessons from John D if we will only listen to his words and take them into our hearts.

I love John Denver and will enjoy the memories I have of watching him live in concert back in 1982 or 83 in Colorado at Red Rocks.

I like it on his album, where he does a short guitar solo before he starts the song itself.
