Stanley, hands down. I met them both... Jaco in NYC before he was killed ... he was an arrogant druggie and had NO respect for any other musicians and Stanley at a small club and HE was actualluy interested in my likes in music. And, just for sheer talent (love of the music you play, etc.), Stanley is a muse to all us bass players! He is a "BASSIST"!

LOL..... I think this must be one of the longest debates in music or at least the bass world, LOL. I love Jaco, but as a enthusiast Stanely sounds more rounded, complete and versatile in different genres. Both super great players what can you really say.

Gerry Brown was an excellent drummer who probably did not get as much attention as he should have. He sounds a little bit like Steve Gadd and Lenny White, two drummers who Clarke played with in Return To Forever, but has his own sick style with whomever he's performing with.

@devor3 I'm not a bass player, but been a arm chair listener of the instrument and Stanley and Jaco from the start of their careers. Yeah I think Stanley was better than Jaco during the 76 to 82 years. Stanley was a much better improviser on the instruments and more fluid.
