  • Wow I don't know what this is or how I got here, but this is freakin sweet.

  • Platige Image is a polish company... I'm proud ;)

  • I haven't seen it, although it interests me, as does the director (or I should say, the director's mind). But what about the ending when the planets collide? Or even before that, when the planets pass each other before Melancholia whips back around to destroy Earth? Were those sense well shot? Do they look cool? I've heard it's one of the more visually beautiful films made in 2011.

  • Melancholia was one of the worst movies I've seen in the past 365 days. Dunst's character is a whore, the whole movie is about a boring wedding, and other than two planets colliding, there is nothing redeeming whatsoever about this film. I walked out after an hour of life-robbing lackluster content. Should've gotten my money back, but was too mad at the film industry to even care.

  • @normalpsychology not only is her character a whore, but dunst is a whore for getting naked in front of the world for money.

  • @normalpsychology No, it's about the destructive effect depression has on the person it affects and those closest to them.

  • @BiebersBodyguard Yes, i have read. I dont agree yet because i have not seen it. I ordered it on DVD from the UK. I live in the US.

  • 从来没哪部影片给我更大的震动。强烈推荐。I was almost ill during the second party of the film, how can a film can touche your mood and heart so strongly. I've had the anxiety ( j'ai vraiment eu l'angoisse )

  • What is the score?????

  • @marinah2oblue The Prelude from Tristan und Isolde, Wagner's opera. You should check it out ;)

  • Beautiful movie. The best I've seen in a long time. Especially love the ending which left my mouth open in shock.

  • So, there was something in the move that actually was real? Not even the flag in the golf curt?

  • Just watched this and I loved it. I wish often for this scenario to actually play out. I think of it as a meteor though. Thanks to Americans, religion, famine, racism, greed, lying I feel this terrible terrible Human experiment has gone on quite long enough. You wouldn't see me sitting crying about it. id wear the biggest smile on my face tossing bibles and Korans on the camp fire while we got a reset done on us. Wonderful movie. Here's hoping folks for global annihilation. We are all dust.

  • @699backstab

religion is the source of all misery here on earth.

we are alone...read the work of great philosopher Albert Camus.

  • is kiefer in this movie alot????

thats the only reason i wanna c it....so can someone get back 2 me???? THNX

  • @ComeTogether365 Keifer is in this movie, not more than Dunst and the other lady but he's great in this film. I don't want to spoil the movie but you will be very surprised at what happens to his character after he finds out he disappointed his family.

  • @creamyalmondz so i just watched it & O-M-G what a son of a bitch to do that! ughhhhhh >:(

  • I love it when the presentation comes to a close and we see a quick tilt down through all the assorted storyboards at the perfect moment of Wagner's music.

I adore the cinema and all it represents.

  • Fascinating and wonderfully talented!

  • damnt I wanted to see the making of the planet

  • wow this motion is jam PACKED with special effects. who knew. looks awesome though. i hope the story won't be too complex. i really want to enjoy this movie and not have to think about... "what did i just watch??? what just happened???"

  • Maravilhoso!

  • Just watched this movie (it has been released for a few weeks in France), it is very good. The final scene is maybe the best end I've ever seen in a movie, so epic seriously go watch this.

  • @JuIietBurke

I agree with you regarding the final scene... After the ending, the whole audience in the cinema went dead quiet. An very eerie feeling very much suiting the fantastic ending.

  • @JuIietBurke the best will hit the earth

  • @JuIietBurke Oh really? What does it mean... you know at the end on the "epic" scene, huh?

  • @JuIietBurke

So, being hit by a planet is obviously more epic than being hit by a car, heh? You're obviously "Claire" type.

The only epic scene in this film for me is Dunst's boobs.

  • Why do there need to be so many special effects? What happened to actually filming a movie using real things? Not entirely computer generated scenes.

  • @PplFromUpStairs Go to see the movie, survive to the 5min prologue with all these shoots in slow motion, and you'll see Von Trier hasn't forgotten that the magic of cinema is also linked with simplicity.

  • @kazekagekiba Well i'm absolutely going to see the movie. Wasn't thinking otherwise at all. I was just wondering why they needed so many special effects. Like, changing the color of her shirt digitally? Couldn't they have just bought a shirt that color?

It still looks like an amazing movie though, and I'm glad it's not all about the special effects.

  • @PplFromUpStairs Even the most visually simple, character driven films use digital fx nowadays. It cut costs (shooting in front of a green screen is cheaper than driving cast and crew to locations); weather conditions can be manipulated; things can be corrected (deciding to change a shirt's color months after the shoot) and added (the sundial). Sometimes the reasons are purely esthetic: the fx showcased in this video were added to create a very deliberate unreal/stylized/dreamy effect.

  • @PplFromUpStairs lol its not computer generated okay? its hard work putting together things that were captured in single takes, and it offers much more creativity and workflow for those creating the scenes.

  • @JHMmovies How is it not computer generated?

Please re-watch the video. You clearly didn't see all of the computer generated special effects and un-needed tweaking of the scenes.

  • Very tarkowskian. LOL

I thought a lot about "The sacrifice" during the movie. Same atmosphere, somehow

  • omg i can't wait to see this

  • 0:35 My God, it is a picture from Tarkovsky s Solaris!!!

  • @MartinSlovakian the burning spruce in the prologue reminds me the scene where the barn is on fire in tarkovsky's "the mirror"

  • @calmtides Have you seen it yet? I think there are a lot more similarities.Exactly the scene with the barn but then Dunst's face in the beginning reminds me of Terekhova's pose in the "rooster killing scene" too or the idea of "conscious" planet connects it with Solaris or the golf-course in the end full of fog with wooden columns reminds me a lot of the opening scene in Nostalgía... Melancholia is great, althrough Trier is completely different from Tarkovsky who will always be my biggest love.

  • @MartinSlovakian Thats "The Hunters in the Snow" by Peter Bruegel the Elder ,1565 , if your interested :)

  • @ofschorchedpumpkins yeah, I know, I have a whole teoretic book made of Tarkovsky's interviews, scripts, letters etc (gread edition from Czech Republic) and then his Sculpting in Time. So I have a lot of background information about his inspirations for work. I've seen the official projection of Melancholia and I think it's a great movie. I've heard that this movie was dedicated to Tarkovsky's Sacrifice... But they're very different one from other and I'm not sure if Tarkovsky would like this...

  • @MartinSlovakian Glad to hear youre an aficionado. Dont hate me, but im not yet very familiar with Tarkovsky myself. I love Parajanov and will likely love Tarkovsky just as much. I did enjoy this film, but hated Kirsten Dunst throughout! Not that she would care very much for my oppinion.

  • @ofschorchedpumpkins qué extrano! I liked more the acting of Charlotte, but Kirsten was not bad at all. That is only my opinion. And I saw Parajanov's Sayat Nova. It is visually beautiful and impressive, but I have to admit that I did not get it...

  • 1:21 what this person is keeping in hands?

  • W-O-W Lars Von Trier is a genius! The scenes look incredible!

  • Visuals from Poland, nice one.

  • What's the painting at :35 called? I've seen it before in the original "Solaris."

  • @s4ujcd

The painting is called: Hunters In The Snow.

    Painted by Pieter Bruegel.

  • These shots are amazing but some seem so disturbing, I wonder if everything just ends up melting because of the heat from the other planet. Really looking forward to this film.

  • The shot at 0:17 is beautiful.

  • This is awesome… what's the title of the music? I love it… it sort of reminds me - in a way - of Strauss' "Of the Great Longing" from Also sprach Zarathustra!

  • @RayOddname sorry I meant "Of the Hereaftergo'ers"

  • @RayOddname: It's the overture to Wagner's opera Tristan und Isolde

  • The visuals for Melancholia look amazing (just as great as the stuff for Antichrist).
