Very nice, emotional and sometime even sad movie. The acting was brilliant. I'm not a big Meryl Streep fan but she's very talented and looked stunning here. Amy Adams was no less imressive - she deserved the Oscar for this supporting role and finally Philip Seymour Hoffman and Viola Davis were amazing as well
People don't actually understand what's going on in this movie. This priest isn't the villain, and it's not about child molestation.
The villain being cast here is certitude or faith. The hero is doubt.
We're not meant to know what the priest did because it doesn't matter. What the film tries to show is a well meaning nun who may have unfairly hurt a man's career because... she simply felt certain.
It's a statement about faith out of Hollywood, tough to consciously notice.
@highwind8124 that is the motive that i took to become the character father flynn. i will be playing him in a few weeks at a community theatre in my hometown.
An EXAMPLE of a great front line priest. However, in reality most do just blab on about what ever they feel is relevant and give thoughtless and soulless Sermons. Surround themselves with self-glorifying, consenting busy body biddies who of weak character become drunk on arrogance convincing themselves that they are qualified by some imaginable being, can act within the rights of some divine constitution. And you dare speak against those who never doubt themselves. I was raised a catholic.
Wonderful parable about faith. Doubt is faith. Certainty is faith. Which do you choose? What is the point? Wonderfully written sermon. I wish there were more like this said in the world. The movie was also a great parallel to this first sermon and is played out through the movie. A must see for seekers.
Powerful sermon? Great sermon? What are you talking about? He doesn't even read the bible, which is the word of God. he just blabs his mouth and speaks his opinion, just like they do in real life. His opinion is meaningless and it's so sad that so many people go there to receive Gods word and all the get is garbage.
This was an amazing movie and the sermons were powerful. A month after the first time I saw it my high school began to have auditions for the play version. I tried out and I got the part of Father Flynn and I'm so excited.
Prior to this movie I had realized that my doubts and uncertainty are a good thing; they mean I'm human and that at the end of the day, I'm one step closer to the Lord.

@TraditionalistThomas
Than make an articulate comment on a video? Why, I very well might but I did so anyways, Mr. "Tradionalist".

he gives advice on life and how to keep your faith, i'd say that's pretty useful knowledge

So then doubt isn't as bonding as certainty? That seems like priceless advise to me, regardless of what walk of life you come from.

This movie has still stayed with me more than a year after it came out. Just like PRECIOUS did it for me this year.

Funny how a lot of Christians don't seem realise the key idea presented in the film:
'You might feel completely sure about something, but without evidence, there will always be a sense of doubt in the end.'
Hmmm, seems a lot like unfounded belief (Christianity in particular, see: 'irony') to me...

The man guiding himself by the stars is Sr. Aloysious. Listen carefully.

I had loved this movie. I a 14 year old walked to my closest theater to watch this by myself. I thought it was very powerful.

This is a movie to be watched several times in order to be reminded of things we forget too often.
It´s a shame there´s no comments here, and little views.
