in the vid, you just pulled the mac out of the dock without unmounting any external drives. isn't that not a recommended idea? you'll get that warning message an unsafely removed hdd. am I missing something?
1)They are supposed to fit, however we've heard of newer VGA adapters being larger. We will begin offering Mini DisplayPort extensions as well as our own line of VGA adapters shortly.
2) We have a lot of customers that run Windows without a problem. There may be individual systems settings you have to tweak to get the MacBook to stay on while closed running Boot Camp, but most of the time it just works.
@mikemurko 3) In general you can use a generic bootless cat5 cable as long as you break the locking tab off. You can also purchase a female female connector to join the cables.
4) We include stereo extension cables with the docks. If you use Mini TOSLINK we now are offering 3 foot long custom versions of that cable as well.

I pre-ordered the 15" unibody well over a year ago. By the time you come out with it my mac will be out-dated. What good is your product if it's only available in make-believe land?
So hows the production go? When will I be able to buy a dock for my MBP 15 (current model). Any Dates would be really appreciated as I have been constantly check your site for updates and this page. I love your design but I hope it is designed soon. Also was thinking if an Aluminum model was available it will be PERFECT.
This is genius! I just wonder if a macbook pro can handle (hardware wise) being on its side like that for extended periods of time. Im sure the designers never intended for the macbooks to be used like this unfortunately.
I just set up to preorder. I have two of the late 2009/early 2010 13" MacBook pros and this seems like a much more elegant solution when I bring my work computer home at night. I already have an extra power adapter and mini displayport connectors. In fact, I 'dock' my Macbook Pro the same way you do, only with the Macbook Pro inverted with all of the connectors oriented to the top. It's just a minor pain to connect and disconnect all the devices every time I 'dock' and 'undock'. Elegant!
HengeDock I have been patiently waiting and need to know a release date or some sort of progress to keep the faith alive. I like your product but if its not having any progress and not going to be developed soon than I might just have to purchasing from another company.
Cant wait for this products release date current 15 MBP unibody? Well heres a post to encourage you guys with production. Great product but hope its weight is enough to make it a quality sturdy product that does not tip over easily esp. considering the bigger size. (Aluminum stand will be ideal). Hope that your low price point and quality will win majority of customers choice. Good luck and Godspeed.
If you read up on Apple's support page they state that you shouldn't run a MacBook closed as the exhaust fan would blow straight onto the screen. I can't see running it in this sideways position does it any favors either!
@inggames That is not the case with current models, in fact Apple specifically condone the running of their computers in the closed position on their Support site.
@ScareMouth The docks come with everything (Audio, Firewire, USB, Ethernet, etc.) except the MagSafe and Mini DisplayPort connectors since those are made by Apple.
Do you have any idea when the docks will be available for us here in Florida for the 15" unibody.... Thanks so much, looks to be a great product. What's the price for the 15" dock.
@tuckerjeffrey We're aiming to keep all of the docks within a $15 price range of each other. Firewire cables, extra hardware and the extra size of the Pro, 15 and 17-inch units account for most of the price bump. I can't give an exact date at this point, but we are working our tails off to get restocked and the new units out!

@HengeDocks thanks for the quick reply your product does look great and if you guys are still in the designing process perhaps include some sort of cover to cover the screw (hex) holes on the left side like a white plug cap type (just throwing it out there) but great product and look forward to its release date...would you be able to have a est. release date
@HengeDocks that might be great for individuals placing the dock on the left vs. the right but as the holes will be visible either way but having some sort of cap would diminish this. I am not here trying to tell HD how to create there products but hope that my suggestions would be taken into consideration (love to partake in the creation of a beautiful product such as yours). Patiently waiting. (once your product is realesed I will sale msy PC and monitor for a bigger monitor...sny est. dates?
Why not put a USB-powered SD card reader on the front of the docking station since you lose it when you dock a unibody MacBook Pro? Add that and the ability to dock the MacBook Pro in a flat, laying down position, and you've got a real winner. I want to insert my MacBook Pro like an old NES cartridge (minus the blowing air on the connectors and jiggling the thing up and down) into the cabinet beneath my desk.
@jamesandmiles We we're shipping to England before we stocked out, we're working on setting up European distribution as we speak, so you'll have multiple options when we relaunch.
@hrzns Good catch, the 13-inch MacBook that we were using in the demo video did not have the Apple EFI 1.4 firmware update that fixed a sleep/wake bug. After several dozen takes of putting it to sleep and waking it back up over and over again it started to lag. So rather than continually restart that computer we used a spare 15-inch MacBook Pro hooked up to the TV. We would have used the 15 to shoot the video, but we only had one prototype dock at the time and needed 3 for the demo video.
@teampl4y4 Due to an unexpectedly high sales volume we are unable to give a solid date on when the next models will be ready. We are working with our manufacturer to get them out as soon as possible!
I can't wait to get my hands on this! I currently have a speck see thru satin case installed on my macbook pro 15", would this dock be able to accomodate my macbook w/ case setup or would I need to remove my case to be able to use the dock? I'm guessing a lot of people are protecting their macbooks with this case so I think it would be very nice if the dock can work with that case installed. Thank you!
If it doesn't already it should come with a wire shield cover. This would be a tube that fits and wraps around all the wires to hide them ... I suppose tie clips would work, but a cleaner solution would the wire shield. I do this for my home stereo system to hide the wire ugliness.
One thing that kinda surprises me is that the cable holding screws are on the "up" side of the Macbook. If I worked for Henge I'd have put the Henge logo on that side and the screws on the "bottom" side.
I also kinda wonder about the effect the screws would have on the cable ends.
@jasonh1234 Our designer originally did exactly that. We ended up switching sides to allow the tab on the ethernet cable to be depressed automatically when the set screw is locked down.
I don't think that that piece of plastic will be very useful, since the macbook/pro gets very warm due to strong graphical exposure. It takes the cooling air through the keyboard, which would not work with this dock.
Therefore I can't imagine it to be good for playing games or working with photoshop or even browsing youtube, since the cpu load gets very high due to flash.
@Medicus1685 Great question! The unibody MacBooks are all designed to run with the screen closed. We've done extensive load testing over the last 18 months and have found no issues with running a MacBook closed, or in the vertical position!
I really like this. How long for the 17" model to be available? Is there anyway to hook up a fan to this? I know you say you did load testing, but I'm one of the paranoid people with closed clamshell mode. Maybe some kind of fan to pump cooler air between the keyboard and screen gap. Also does it have a rubber like coating where the laptop sits, or does it rest on hard plastic? Thanks
How is depth differentiation between connectors accounted for? (How far into the dock can the plugs go? All the way through, or is there a stopping point?) My point, in any case, is that you could just thread everything through, put it into the dock, and then secure all the hex bolts...
only issue is that the mouse shown does not work on the beautiful glass table... only Logitech mice with Darkfield Laser Tracking technology are capable to track on glass tables...
I've noticed that when I close my Macbook Pro and use an external monitor - my internet connection seems to go down a few bars. Have you come across this or experienced this?
This is possibly going to be the most amazing apple product ever! Rather than spending a ton of money for a larger iMac, get a macbook pro and you've got your nice screen! Whoever developed this should probably be contacted by apple soon for some kind of partnership!
While interesting and useful, this is not a dock. It's a port replicator. A clever and stylish one, but this can't really be compared to a IBM/Lenovo or Dell dock.
And there already are port replicators for macs out there ... nothing new here.
@MNNEP Great question! The unibody MacBooks are all designed to run with the screen closed. We've done extensive load testing over the last 18 months and have found no issues with running a MacBook closed, or in the vertical position!
@therocketman0123 Each docking station comes with a full compliment of custom cable extensions, so you can plug your connector into the included audio cable.
guys tell me please about cooling, i have heard that apple notebooks get most of air through keyboard and blow it out from the back side, so using your dock may course overheating?
btw can u tell me please where did you get that table from the beginning of the video? sorry for that off-topic
@e001kx77rus Great question! The unibody MacBooks are all designed to run with the screen closed. We've done extensive load testing over the last 18 months and have found no issues with running a MacBook closed, or in the vertical position!
Our CEO had a furniture design company for a while, that's was one of his original designs.
This looks great, and the video presentation is very effective. Halfway through I found myself wondering how it was shot, then imagining you with a USB headset mic and a video camera strapped to your head.
This is an awesome product! Is there any way (or any plans in the future) where you can have the MBP open while still taking advantage of the dock? Perhaps by sliding it in sideways?
in the vid, you just pulled the mac out of the dock without unmounting any external drives. isn't that not a recommended idea? you'll get that warning message an unsafely removed hdd. am I missing something?

Four quick questions:
1) Does an Apple Displayport-VGA cable work?
2) Might be a stupid question but are there any problems with bootcamp? I only use W7.
3) Those cables you provide ... what if they're not long enough? If my modem is far away will a generic cat5 work?
4) My speakers use a particular audo jack that looks like it might not fit (see Logitech x-230). Will this be a problem?

This is possibly going to be the most amazing apple product ever! Rather than spending a ton of money for a larger iMac, get a macbook pro and you've got your nice screen! Whoever developed this should probably be contacted by apple soon for some kind of partnership!
xbork 1 year ago
where is your camera connected to?!?!?! Very nice!
OtisandSlayer 1 year ago
@OtisandSlayer The camera was attached to our demo 'actors' head, literally.

@HengeDocks haha I thought so very well done!

While interesting and useful, this is not a dock. It's a port replicator. A clever and stylish one, but this can't really be compared to a IBM/Lenovo or Dell dock.
And there already are port replicators for macs out there ... nothing new here.

Question - what TV and surround speakers are those?

@AsamPlusONE It's a 47" Vizio and Bose 301 speakers, none of which are still manufactured anymore they are so old...

the mac book is easily overheated,
with this new henge docks, will it also have the same problem??
MNNEP 1 year ago
@MNNEP Great question! The unibody MacBooks are all designed to run with the screen closed. We've done extensive load testing over the last 18 months and have found no issues with running a MacBook closed, or in the vertical position!

The Canadian dollar has ticked up above par with the U.S. dollar. I think this will be my first cross-border purchase! An Apple-worthy design. Bravo!

@jonnygaruda Now Canadians can get their chance to mercilessly tease Americans about the value of our currency...

The speakers i use have an "L" shaped connector. Would this still fit in to the Headphone slot of the Henge Dock? Thanks
therocketman0123 1 year ago
@therocketman0123 Each docking station comes with a full compliment of custom cable extensions, so you can plug your connector into the included audio cable.

guys tell me please about cooling, i have heard that apple notebooks get most of air through keyboard and blow it out from the back side, so using your dock may course overheating?
btw can u tell me please where did you get that table from the beginning of the video? sorry for that off-topic

Our CEO had a furniture design company for a while, that's was one of his original designs.

This looks great, and the video presentation is very effective. Halfway through I found myself wondering how it was shot, then imagining you with a USB headset mic and a video camera strapped to your head.

Tal820202 1 year ago
This is an awesome product! Is there any way (or any plans in the future) where you can have the MBP open while still taking advantage of the dock? Perhaps by sliding it in sideways?
I love this product but I need my two screens!
14263 1 year ago
I'm impressed by this, it looks like an excellent solution to the problematic shift from full desktop functionality to on the move portability.
But I live in the UK! So many great accessories like this are extortionate to ship over.
Are there any plans for a UK release, or reasonable shipping?

@SakuraChama Yes, we will eventually offer European distribution.
