  • in the vid, you just pulled the mac out of the dock without unmounting any external drives. isn't that not a recommended idea? you'll get that warning message an unsafely removed hdd. am I missing something?

  • Four quick questions:

    1) Does an Apple Displayport-VGA cable work?

    2) Might be a stupid question but are there any problems with bootcamp? I only use W7.

    3) Those cables you provide ... what if they're not long enough? If my modem is far away will a generic cat5 work?

    4) My speakers use a particular audo jack that looks like it might not fit (see Logitech x-230). Will this be a problem?

  • @mikemurko

1)They are supposed to fit, however we've heard of newer VGA adapters being larger. We will begin offering Mini DisplayPort extensions as well as our own line of VGA adapters shortly.

    2) We have a lot of customers that run Windows without a problem. There may be individual systems settings you have to tweak to get the MacBook to stay on while closed running Boot Camp, but most of the time it just works.

  • @mikemurko 3) In general you can use a generic bootless cat5 cable as long as you break the locking tab off. You can also purchase a female female connector to join the cables.

    4) We include stereo extension cables with the docks. If you use Mini TOSLINK we now are offering 3 foot long custom versions of that cable as well.

  • I bought a Henge Dock that didn't have the “MagSafe Adapter Tool” or "Chiclets". Is there ANY way I can buy them from you? I would call ... but you don't have a customer service number ANYWHERE.

  • @shauners666 The MagSafe Adapter tools are only included with and compatible with docks manufacturer after October 2010. Some first generation docks may still be on the market through third party retailers, but they are no longer sold through our website.

The best way to get a hold of customer service is through email or the contact form on the website.

  • how much?

    in pounds btw

  • @RowanHallMaudslay Depending on the exchange rate between 37 and 46 pounds not including shipping or any VAT/customs fees your country may (or may not) tack on.

  • does it come with all the cords?

  • @ZDProductionz Henge Docks come with a selection of cords specific to each model. For a full list check out the "more details tab" on the order page of our website.

  • Music at his tv when he says you can also play music is Massive Attack - Angel!

  • Can Anyone tell me the name of the song, when he connects his macbook to the pc and says "you can also listen to music" ? :-(

  • Do you ship to Germany?

  • @sylex87 Yes.

  • you should find a solution to cover up those holes on the side to give it a fully nice and clean look

  • @Soul5haker All of our docks (save the 13-inch models) now have the set screws on the opposite side.

  • Just bought mine. Excited.

  • I pre-ordered the 15" unibody well over a year ago. By the time you come out with it my mac will be out-dated. What good is your product if it's only available in make-believe land?

  • So hows the production go? When will I be able to buy a dock for my MBP 15 (current model). Any Dates would be really appreciated as I have been constantly check your site for updates and this page. I love your design but I hope it is designed soon. Also was thinking if an Aluminum model was available it will be PERFECT.

  • Just brilliant! Thanks for... well, inventing this beast! Brilliant!

  • What about the laptop cooling?

  • Does this work with white plastic Macbook 4,2?

  • Great product, when i get my mac i will buy a henge dock, looks great!

Offtopic: When the demonstrator sits behing the tv and says you can play your music, what song plays on the hifi set? Im dying to know please help :)

    Thanks!

    again, great product

  • They have been sold out foreverrr you have to preorder I hate it.

  • This is genius! I just wonder if a macbook pro can handle (hardware wise) being on its side like that for extended periods of time. Im sure the designers never intended for the macbooks to be used like this unfortunately.

  • @chupacabra312 Great question. Would like to know the answer before purchasing one. Other than this issue, I'm freaking loving the idea!

  • im on the pre-order list, and was wondering when they'll be available again :/ i want it now!!! lol

    thanks x

  • If you shutdown the macbook how do you turn it on again without having to take it out from the dock?

  • When is this going to be available in Denmark?

I badly want one for my new 15" MBP

  • How is it coming with the production of the dock? It's been almost 3 months and everything is still on preorder.

  • nice video

  • I just set up to preorder. I have two of the late 2009/early 2010 13" MacBook pros and this seems like a much more elegant solution when I bring my work computer home at night. I already have an extra power adapter and mini displayport connectors. In fact, I 'dock' my Macbook Pro the same way you do, only with the Macbook Pro inverted with all of the connectors oriented to the top. It's just a minor pain to connect and disconnect all the devices every time I 'dock' and 'undock'. Elegant!

  • will this work with mbps that are employing a speck clear case ?

  • @exilednmd Nope, due to the tight tolerances most cases will not work with the docking setup, however skins are generally okay.

  • HengeDock I have been patiently waiting and need to know a release date or some sort of progress to keep the faith alive. I like your product but if its not having any progress and not going to be developed soon than I might just have to purchasing from another company.

  • @2high2aim Check out our blog or Twitter feed for updates! We've been working to increase the frequency of updates.

  • did you have the camer attached to your body?

  • @RSOP90 Yup, head mount system!

  • Cant wait for this products release date current 15 MBP unibody? Well heres a post to encourage you guys with production. Great product but hope its weight is enough to make it a quality sturdy product that does not tip over easily esp. considering the bigger size. (Aluminum stand will be ideal). Hope that your low price point and quality will win majority of customers choice. Good luck and Godspeed.

  • If you read up on Apple's support page they state that you shouldn't run a MacBook closed as the exhaust fan would blow straight onto the screen. I can't see running it in this sideways position does it any favors either!

  • @inggames That is not the case with current models, in fact Apple specifically condone the running of their computers in the closed position on their Support site.

  • does the cd drive still work while the computer is docked like this?

  • @smharm13 Yup, it pops out like a toaster.

  • That's what I was dreaming for, pre-order confirmed for the 13 inch MBP, gonna love it ,,,,,,,, :)

  • so you cant use wifi?

  • @TheRealToasty You can use WiFi.

  • @TheRealToasty what kind of question is that?

  • @TheRealToasty You can use wifi as long as it is within range of the wireless router.

  • What is the release date?

  • I want this so bad!!

I hope they'll be back in stock soon

  • When will the 13 inch be available again?

  • @psycosquirrel789 They will be available very soon for customers on our preorder list!

  • I'd rather have the hands free camera!

  • It's only the base? The cable (including minidisplay and audio) doesn't come together?

  • @ScareMouth The docks come with everything (Audio, Firewire, USB, Ethernet, etc.) except the MagSafe and Mini DisplayPort connectors since those are made by Apple.

  • I'm very impatiently waiting for the 15mbp model to be ready... :(

  • Do you have any idea when the docks will be available for us here in Florida for the 15" unibody.... Thanks so much, looks to be a great product. What's the price for the 15" dock.

  • @tuckerjeffrey We're aiming to keep all of the docks within a $15 price range of each other. Firewire cables, extra hardware and the extra size of the Pro, 15 and 17-inch units account for most of the price bump. I can't give an exact date at this point, but we are working our tails off to get restocked and the new units out!

  • When will the 15" be ready to purchase?

  • @2high2aim We are working our tails off to get the new models out as soon as possible. Even in 2010 it takes a surprising amount of time to design, produce and ship products from the other side of the globe! We appreciate the patience and can't wait to release the new models!

  • @HengeDocks thanks for the quick reply your product does look great and if you guys are still in the designing process perhaps include some sort of cover to cover the screw (hex) holes on the left side like a white plug cap type (just throwing it out there) but great product and look forward to its release date...would you be able to have a est. release date

  • @2high2aim - Great idea, we're actually moving the screws to the other side in the newer versions, so that should help the aesthetics along a bit!

  • @HengeDocks that might be great for individuals placing the dock on the left vs. the right but as the holes will be visible either way but having some sort of cap would diminish this. I am not here trying to tell HD how to create there products but hope that my suggestions would be taken into consideration (love to partake in the creation of a beautiful product such as yours). Patiently waiting. (once your product is realesed I will sale msy PC and monitor for a bigger monitor...sny est. dates?

  • @2high2aim We actually reversed the set screws on the newer models (except for 13-inch models).

  • lol nice crib :)

  • Why not put a USB-powered SD card reader on the front of the docking station since you lose it when you dock a unibody MacBook Pro? Add that and the ability to dock the MacBook Pro in a flat, laying down position, and you've got a real winner. I want to insert my MacBook Pro like an old NES cartridge (minus the blowing air on the connectors and jiggling the thing up and down) into the cabinet beneath my desk.

  • Do they have one for the 15" MBP

  • @zajoerg Soon. Very, very soon!

  • For the first time advertising on Youtube that's ACTUALLY WORTH WATCHING.

This is awesome, hope they sell to Australia.

  • ballaaaaa

  • can i get one in england? and if so, how much would they be?

    thanks

  • @jamesandmiles We we're shipping to England before we stocked out, we're working on setting up European distribution as we speak, so you'll have multiple options when we relaunch.

  • when you connected the macbook to the tv it had different screens running then it did connected to the monitor.

was the tv running from the mac mini in the right cabinet?

  • @hrzns Good catch, the 13-inch MacBook that we were using in the demo video did not have the Apple EFI 1.4 firmware update that fixed a sleep/wake bug. After several dozen takes of putting it to sleep and waking it back up over and over again it started to lag. So rather than continually restart that computer we used a spare 15-inch MacBook Pro hooked up to the TV. We would have used the 15 to shoot the video, but we only had one prototype dock at the time and needed 3 for the demo video.

  • sheesh like white much?

  • Hi can I buy one from your site to come to the UK?

  • nice i like that

  • i went to the site, how much and when can i place an order

  • When is the 17" unibody henge dock coming out? :)

  • @teampl4y4 Due to an unexpectedly high sales volume we are unable to give a solid date on when the next models will be ready. We are working with our manufacturer to get them out as soon as possible!

  • Really cool idea, but it would be a pain to take it out of the dock each time you want to turn it on.

  • Can you have different resolutions setup for the different docks?

  • I can't wait to get my hands on this! I currently have a speck see thru satin case installed on my macbook pro 15", would this dock be able to accomodate my macbook w/ case setup or would I need to remove my case to be able to use the dock? I'm guessing a lot of people are protecting their macbooks with this case so I think it would be very nice if the dock can work with that case installed. Thank you!

  • Typically, cases interfere with the docking setup since Henge Docks rely on a very precise fit to make all of the connections reliably.

  • This is SO GENIOUS

  • this is great, I can't wait to buy this!!!

  • If it doesn't already it should come with a wire shield cover. This would be a tube that fits and wraps around all the wires to hide them ... I suppose tie clips would work, but a cleaner solution would the wire shield. I do this for my home stereo system to hide the wire ugliness.

  • @scottjanousek That's a solid idea right there. We may have to steal that one!

  • One thing that kinda surprises me is that the cable holding screws are on the "up" side of the Macbook. If I worked for Henge I'd have put the Henge logo on that side and the screws on the "bottom" side.

I also kinda wonder about the effect the screws would have on the cable ends.

  • @jasonh1234 Our designer originally did exactly that. We ended up switching sides to allow the tab on the ethernet cable to be depressed automatically when the set screw is locked down.

  • what''s the monitor brand and model number?

  • @RetributionCore Its an older 28" Dell, I actually don't know the model off the top of my head.

  • Look nice~ does it come with OPTICAL AUDIO CABLE?

1 more thing... if it is one universal dock and come w/ tray for different model of MacBook would be great. (like the iPod dock)

  • @makuikui We're working on an optional TOS link cable that will be sold separately.

  • I don't think that that piece of plastic will be very useful, since the macbook/pro gets very warm due to strong graphical exposure. It takes the cooling air through the keyboard, which would not work with this dock.

Therefore I can't imagine it to be good for playing games or working with photoshop or even browsing youtube, since the cpu load gets very high due to flash.

    Just my opinion .. :)

  • @Medicus1685 Great question! The unibody MacBooks are all designed to run with the screen closed. We've done extensive load testing over the last 18 months and have found no issues with running a MacBook closed, or in the vertical position!

  • I really like this. How long for the 17" model to be available? Is there anyway to hook up a fan to this? I know you say you did load testing, but I'm one of the paranoid people with closed clamshell mode. Maybe some kind of fan to pump cooler air between the keyboard and screen gap. Also does it have a rubber like coating where the laptop sits, or does it rest on hard plastic? Thanks

  • How is depth differentiation between connectors accounted for? (How far into the dock can the plugs go? All the way through, or is there a stopping point?) My point, in any case, is that you could just thread everything through, put it into the dock, and then secure all the hex bolts...

  • @FretFrenzy08 Yup, that's what we recommend for most of the plugs!

  • damn this guy rich lol

  • You might have saved me a few hundred dollars had this been available a few months ago. It looks like a beautiful product.

  • most beautifulest close look ever

  • Cool!

  • what size Macbook Pro are you using?

  • brilliant

  • @DeadDreamers The one in the video is an older 13-inch MacBook

  • Ah, i got it. Your website was simply unreachable for a moment.

  • @alkesandrmakov Yeah, we just switched hosting companies to keep up with the load...

  • wil there be a 17" version? i'm interested in buying one.

  • @alkesandrmakov Yes, we are working on them as we speak.

  • @HengeDocks are you planning on having different colors, and styles like black, aluminum body to match the MBP?

  • Brilliant. Just one question: Do optical audio cables work?

  • @jspafford We're working on a TOS Link solution that will be sold separately.

  • nice rack of liquor! :-V

  • How do I turn the Macbook on and off? Do I have to take it out of the dock?

  • @andrevital You can do a normal shut down, but the Mac must be on or asleep before you place it in the dock.

  • very neat!!

only issue is that the mouse shown does not work on the beautiful glass table... only Logitech mice with Darkfield Laser Tracking technology are capable to track on glass tables...

  • @gregdizac We have very special glass tables! Normally we have a Waacom tablet there, but it kinda cluttered up the shot.

  • I've noticed that when I close my Macbook Pro and use an external monitor - my internet connection seems to go down a few bars. Have you come across this or experienced this?

  • @AsamPlusONE That's a new one on us!

  • did you have the camera strapped to your head?

  • @hanseich Yup!

  • @hanseich Actually, that's exactly what we did!

  • Thanks Team, its a good piece.

  • Very cool!

  • EVER HEAR OF AN S VIDEO OR VGA WIRE?

  • @dicklhsem Yeah. You can use those too...

  • Ordering the moment the 15" comes out.

  • This is possibly going to be the most amazing apple product ever! Rather than spending a ton of money for a larger iMac, get a macbook pro and you've got your nice screen! Whoever developed this should probably be contacted by apple soon for some kind of partnership!

  • where is your camera connected to?!?!?! Very nice!

  • @OtisandSlayer The camera was attached to our demo 'actors' head, literally.

  • @HengeDocks haha I thought so very well done!

  • *cough* mac freak *cough*

  • Music from Space Rangers!

  • i hate you your house is so nice.. damn.

  • this is awesome i want one

  • This looks like a brilliant way for my wife to reclaim some desk space. Awaiting reviews!

  • horrible lighting

  • While interesting and useful, this is not a dock. It's a port replicator. A clever and stylish one, but this can't really be compared to a IBM/Lenovo or Dell dock.

And there already are port replicators for macs out there ... nothing new here.

  • Brilliant!

  • pretty bad ass

  • Great product !

Question - what TV and surround speakers are those?

  • @AsamPlusONE It's a 47" Vizio and Bose 301 speakers, none of which are still manufactured anymore they are so old...

  • the mac book is easily overheated,

with this new henge docks, will it also have the same problem??

  • @MNNEP Great question! The unibody MacBooks are all designed to run with the screen closed. We've done extensive load testing over the last 18 months and have found no issues with running a MacBook closed, or in the vertical position!

  • The Canadian dollar has ticked up above par with the U.S. dollar. I think this will be my first cross-border purchase! An Apple-worthy design. Bravo!

  • @jonnygaruda Now Canadians can get their chance to mercilessly tease Americans about the value of our currency...

  • The speakers i use have an "L" shaped connector. Would this still fit in to the Headphone slot of the Henge Dock? Thanks

  • @therocketman0123 Each docking station comes with a full compliment of custom cable extensions, so you can plug your connector into the included audio cable.

  • you have a nice apartment.

  • awesome idea! nice!

  • that could be invented by apple its self!

    awesome!

  • guys tell me please about cooling, i have heard that apple notebooks get most of air through keyboard and blow it out from the back side, so using your dock may course overheating?

btw can u tell me please where did you get that table from the beginning of the video? sorry for that off-topic

  • @e001kx77rus Great question! The unibody MacBooks are all designed to run with the screen closed. We've done extensive load testing over the last 18 months and have found no issues with running a MacBook closed, or in the vertical position!

Our CEO had a furniture design company for a while, that's was one of his original designs.

  • mac= overpriced hyped crap

  • I am interested in distributing your product in Europe.

  • This looks great, and the video presentation is very effective. Halfway through I found myself wondering how it was shot, then imagining you with a USB headset mic and a video camera strapped to your head.

  • Dood, ur middle finger is crooked...

  • Do you ship israel?

  • This is an awesome product! Is there any way (or any plans in the future) where you can have the MBP open while still taking advantage of the dock? Perhaps by sliding it in sideways?

I love this product but I need my two screens!

  • I'm impressed by this, it looks like an excellent solution to the problematic shift from full desktop functionality to on the move portability.

But I live in the UK! So many great accessories like this are extortionate to ship over.

Are there any plans for a UK release, or reasonable shipping?

  • @SakuraChama Yes, we will eventually offer European distribution.

  • @HengeDocks yay thanks, i look forward to it! -_-

  • @SakuraChama

    I know!

I am from the US but studying abroad in Austria. Everything costs a fortune to ship over here!

  • omg this is evil! very nice :)

  • The person's arms reminded me of BioShock for some reason

  • amazing!

  • woaw this is awesome!

  • This is really cool! If only I had a MacBook.

  • FINALLY!

  • Wow! Very well done, this is very impressive design/idea, I cant believe noone thought about it before its so simple and effective. Nice one.

  • @PurpleSkyz The problem with older MacBooks / Pros was that not all the peripherals were on the same side.

  • Not bad guys, not bad at all.

  • Great product. Are you planning to integrate the USB hub (at least 4-ports) into the dock?
