  • Flo was offered a contract during the motown meeting where she was voted out but she cussed them out and said she would go else where if she wouldve taken the contract things wouldve been diffrent for her.

  • I LOVE MOTOWN!

  • Very well this remix ! =)

  • this is the best version ever!

  • Gordy was right to speed it up. This version pales to the one released.

Mr. Gordy, if you read these posts, I hated Flo leaving. Mary & Flo were more loved

than you knew, and should have been given more to do. (horrible to have their mikes turned down!). There was no need for the name change either.(could you imagine

"Mick Jagger & the Rolling Stones"?)

  • @stevie68a Just for the record, Flo never left the Supremes, she was voted out, presumably by both Diana and Mary - In Mid-1967, there was a sit-down meeting with Flo and her mother, Lurlee, Mary Wilson, Diana Ross, Berry Gordy, and two of BG's bodyguards - BG was explaining to Flo and her mom about all the concert and recording dates Flo kept missing and that it was costing them money- Mary had the deciding vote on Flo by saying she wanted her in the group, but Flo no longer wanted them-

One cannot help but imagine what great sounds would have followed had Flo remained with the Supremes. She certainly had problems, but considering the circumstances and the musical degrading she suffered, I can't blame her for leaving in disgust. Nonetheless, had Barry demonstrated a more caring attitude, thing would have been different in my opinion.

  • @6271949 In Mary Wilson's second book, Supreme Faith, she stated that, unlike Diana and her, Flo could not allow herself to slip in between the black world they grew up in and the white world they later conquered musically - A lot of Flo's problems might have been internal, but her external problems (missing concert and recording dates, bickering with Diana and Berry) only compounded her internal ones-

  • Berry Gordy reportedly did not like this version, because he thought it sounded too slow-

  • This version of "Baby Love" was recorded on July 24, 1964, a day after I was born-

  • at 3:02 Fol says oowee while mary keeps doing her vocals....that was kindda funny

  • make that wandering !

  • it's a bit ragged and two many vocal and instrumental distractions. you keep wondering all over the place tryng to keep up with all the diferent points of interests. it would and should be smoothed out and kept on the main vocal.. downplaying the background and that interfering ( and almost annoying ) sax.

  • This is the first time I ever heard the original version of "Baby Love". I recall Lamont Dozier in an interview saying that upon hearing this Berry Gordy said: "There's nothin' too it! Speed it up!"

So H-D-H went back into the studio & came up with the "Baby :Love" that soared to #1 on Billboard and Cash Box.

In all honesty, had this version been the follow-up nto "Where Did Our Love Go" not only would it have not made #1, I doubt it would've cracked the Top 20!

    It's very, very weak.

  • where are flo & mary' solos??

  • they didn't had solo parts only shortly solo add-libs ...

sadly they didn't have their own lead parts

whatever if was originally recorded before where did our love go if you don't know ...

  • oh ok!

  • yup =D

  • this was originally intended to cash in on the success and echo the mood and tempo of where did our love go. Berry decided it needed to be recorded at a faster tempo prior to release...and the rest is history!

  • i love this song [=

  • this my favouite song and other song r rubbish

  • where's flo's part.i didn't hear it.

  • it's intimate and tender...

  • so awesome;) love it

  • I really love this version!!!

  • What a great version...sexy and soulful as only the ultimate true Supremes could do it! The blend of voices, the uniqueness of each one....musical perfection....oh, for the Baby Love years again....

  • Yeah, the released version was way better than this version. On this one Diane sounds dull and the pace is just too slow. But I did like the sax solo, though.

  • Been "itching" to hear this in full since I heard a snippet. The re-cut version is far superior, it has the "wow" factor of Where Did Our Love Go, their previous single, which was obviously the key to getting successive number one hits. The slow beginning is quite charming but the whole track is a little dull in my opinon. May sound better as an instrumental, then you can hear the magic of the Funk Brothers. I have a piano mix of the re-cut track and it is "Supreme".

  • I think this version is far inferior to the actual hit version. Although it is fun to hear from a historic perspective, this version would not have even charted (in my opinion). It just doesn't have "it".

  • I have the supremes songs you keep me haning on in italian and you can't hurry love also in italian but I haven't them any more.

But I doe have come see about me and where did our love go in german

    but I don't like them

  • I like this version more

maybe cause I listened to the other too often xD

  • I can hear Berry saying, "It's good, but I want to hear more Diane." This mix makes it clear that Diana was the key to the Supremes special sound. When her voice was out front, they didn't sound like anyone else.

  • Actually on this take Diana doesn't sound all that good. She sounds MUCH better on the final mix. Flo and Mary sound great on both versions but Diana sounds much better on the final mix

  • in your opinion because we all know by now that many here are trying to rewrite the supremes history. diana sounded bloody fantastic in no ,matter what style she sang. she was an inspiration. and that's my opinion.

  • I hope it didn't seem as if I was attempting to "rewrite the supremes history". I was just saying on THIS take she does not sound half as good as she does on the final, released take and that Mary and Flo sound good on both and that Diana not being so prominent on this mix is not why she didn't sound as good as the person who's commented I was replying to had implied.

    Have a supreme day.

  • The released version has one of the most recognized intros in rock/pop history, but I think Diana sounds sexier on this one.

  • True.

But the sax solo totally rocks.

  • As is, this probably would have only been a Top 10 Hit. The key change in the final release really added some momentum plus a slightly shorter length makes it much more radio friendly.
