I was raised 45 miles south of Tyler, Texas and he does pull off a really good East Texas accent. I could hear people I knew growing up in his voice several times. He is missing the "yes ma'am/no ma'am/yessum's that I grew up with though. I'm not surprised that he was able to do this though, it's Colin Firth, the man's an amazing actor. I like that he incorporated the posture as well.

I am from Houston, Texas and I say job well don. Now I know that not all people sound like this, in fact I don't at all, but I have family that lives up in Corsicana and in Tyler and Colin really imitates the Tyler accent well. @allpeeps4me ...you don't because you grew up in a California household...transplants don't pick up accents...and if you haven't heard more authentic accents than this, then you need to get out of downtown Dallas and find an elementary school in the mid-cities and listen to the kids talk...we tend to grow out of the accent, and kids have super thick accents...it's awesome.
