Excellent job with this rant; you've piqued my interest in your works, so I subbed you. :) In any event, I'm a reviewer (of anime, and the occasional Western animation, installments) and not a commentator (although reviews do have commentary to a certain degree, but I digress); I completely agree with your point about being original (and hilarious, in the process). I try my best in my reviews to balance insight and entertainment, while being fair (though harsh) to said installments.

i remember when I made my first and only commentary on this one douchebag who made a pretty piss poor list on anime cliches. there was no humor i acted all angry and shit and i made the mistake of thinking i could change his mind. some brief drama ensued and i even considered redoing my commentary, but the more i thought about it the more i realized how little i cared and decided in the end commentaries weren't for me. reviewing anime and zombie flicks are my thing and i'm content with it.

I really wish people could stop taking Mariotehplumber seriously. He is such an obvious troll and an oddly succesful one.

One problem I have with commentaries is that they focus too much of faggots(Joshua included). The thing that made commentaries great was that it challenged fans of other people like Hellsing, RandomDCE and Darkness. Now I see people do rants on kids or recolors. The closest I can think that dose try to challege people is Shadowstar but he has too many flaws.

The issue YB is talking about is that people tend to rely solely on outside sources without bringing in any of their own thoughts as well. They may think it makes the job easier but in return, it only makes them look lazy, especially when said person is using clips we've all seen a million times.

Hmm I do eff up on occasion by saying I'm part of the community despite the fact I have only made 2 commentaries. (Technically 6 but UPLOADED 2)
