That's awesome. I've never seen this done, even at my vets. And because I only have mutts I've never gotten to have any pups. Thank you for uploading this. :)
Thank you for posting this video, it's perfect...better then watching the vets !!! My question is ...where can you buy the hemostat forceps ? Do you do any small breed, tail docking? If you could make and post a video for that as well, I'd love to see you do that also. Thanks again
I have to do this today for the first time ever and am a complete nervous wreck - 4 pups, all have dewclaws :( You made it look so easy and painless pretty much!
Great video. Thank you for posting it! You say you use small, hot, forceps. How do you heat the forceps?
I watched your video and used your technique (except heating the forceps). It worked quite well, had 2 dewclaws that bled a little and used quick stop. Just wondered if using the heat would cut down on bleeding.
I have my dogs and puppies dew claws removed as well and this looks much better than what my last vet did. I saw no blood and the puppy was quiet. When I took my puppies to the vet to have them removed they cut them off and the babies were screaming, now I take them to a different vet that does this and the puppies and I like it better and so does the puppies's momma.
I watched another video of a vet doing this, but your method seems a lot quicker, less blood and most inportantly less stress and pain for the puppy...I would suggest to others whom veiw this and thinks it looks easy and intends saving a few bucks by trying it themselves, to bare in mind your many years of experience in doing this...Thank you for sharing this method
Hi Hon it is done so pups do not catch dew claw in carpet later in life and dew claw is not caught in comb if a long coat and jerked combing. I stay away from ver with young pups home because of Parvo danger. Try cutting baby nails with human finger nail clipper . I do madults many with human Toenal clipper if I can not find my Dog claw cutters. Deb
dont u think its would be nice to go to a vet and have a proffetional do it cuz poor puppy when my dogs puppies were born i didnt de claw theme i only got a nail fireler and thats it they didnt even whine and they didnt even scratch there moms belly
when you say small hot forceps, how are you heating them? I have some pups coming and want to do my own but want to make sure I do it right. let me know and thanks
Thanks for the vid,,I have watched an experienced breeder do mine in the past and after lots of reading and watching,,you,,I did them all the next time,,(poodles),,I dab mine with potassium permanganate on a dampened cotton bud,,it sort of forms a 'scab' on the area,,,,totally agree about the grooming of dogs with dews on,,specially poodles etc,,again thanks deb,,
I do this procedure exactly the same way, but it really gives me more confidence seeing someone else do it - and, she is GOOD! So matter of fact about it - Thanks so much for this video - regardless of what others say, I think it is a lot safer to do it at home, and keep the puppy away from possible exposure to disease.
Its not that dangerous to go to a vet that you can trust, I just had my new litter of pups tails docked today (I used to do it but I just was feeling lazy today). I have been going to the same vet for 20 years. If you live in oklahoma find hilltop vet clinic. good prices on shots (i payed $28.00 for shots on 8 pups) And unlike a lot of vet clinics in oklahoma she will make a payment plan for you if you cant afford it.
Jugga Most vets in my area NC or not cheap.$25 per pup on shots And when you go in you do not know if parvo dog was there before or even allowed to mess were you walk
Humans can opt against cosmetic surgery, but dogs aren't so lucky. We choose for them—and we often choose painful, unnecessary procedures such as ear-cropping and tail-docking. To give certain breeds so-called "desirable" traits, unscrupulous veterinarians perform cruel, disfiguring surgeries that cause dogs great suffering.
I am 100% against ears and tails. But dew claws grow in a circle and most pet owners do not keep cut. Plus danger of long hair breeds like poodles have had many a injury when dew claw caught in a comb,,clipper or jercked by dog if caught in carpet. Regular claws or stright and wore down some by walking
I personally doc my pups tails because of working purposes. I breed welsh corgi's which is a working breed. They herd cattle. Can you imagine the horrible pain one of my dogs could go through if a 1500 lb cow stepped on it? Most hunting breeds have there tails docked so that they dont get snared in traps. docking has its purposes in some breeds.
Great video for breeders. Thanks for taking the time to share this. I have 2 litters of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels due soon.I hope I can finally get up the nerve to try this. I know they mainly cry from being held on their backs rather than pain at this early age and I like the fact there is little if any blood. Thanks. cv
I love the manner in which this video is done. I also like the mention of time factor being between 1-3 days. Had my chi's birth not been so hard, I would have removed dewclaws from the baby right then and there. Unfortunately, we had bigger things to worry over, like getting puppy's color to pink up. Thanks Deb!
cool stuff .. nice i like it =)) thanks for sharing =)) god bless

If you don't get the bulb completely out, I understand the dew claw grows back. How long does that take and what do you do if that happens?
TLBrower 1 year ago
You will know by 2 weeks if you left bulb/root/joint If so jusr redo.

Sorry I meant you could sanatize over heat like a lighter if no alchol near.

That was an amazing job, very clean. It looks better than most vets. I love that the stress on the pups is so minimized. 2 thumbs up. : )

How would I get a copy of your video for my files? You are doing an excellent job. As people can see, there is very little discomfort.

So they do not hang in carpet or a comb.

In my area I am saving $15.00 a puppy. A friend in CA was paying on poodle pups for dew claws and tails a office call of $50.00 plus $30 per pup

I would never do a older pup or dog. Unless a show dog and then have vet do it.
