At 0:20 he says "I don't know why you would turn that into a movie", but the answer is obvious: MONEY!! Why do you think they make so many movies about childhood comic book heroes and things that aren't original? It's all about making money, and knowing that someone out there will buy into it.
I think his comments are unsurprising and make sense... but, as a fan of the book and a film lover, it would be interesting to see a capable director take it on.
But they made one flew over the cuckoo's nest and it won best picture!
